Compare the individual livestream’s Estimated ad revenue with its Super Chat-specific earnings for the same video and date range in YouTube Studio Analytics. Do not use RPM, total estimated revenue, CPM, or an undivided “Supers revenue” total as a substitute: each measures something different.
Compare the two figures in YouTube Studio
- Open the revenue reports. In YouTube Studio, select Analytics, then Revenue. YouTube’s ad revenue analytics guidance identifies Estimated revenue and Estimated ad revenue in this area.
- Select the livestream. Choose the individual livestream/video and use the same date range for both figures. YouTube Analytics is based on Video ID, so matching the video and range keeps the comparison in scope. See YouTube’s live-stream metrics guidance.
- Find ad earnings. Read Estimated ad revenue, the ad-only figure, in the revenue-source breakdown. YouTube’s live monetization instructions say to use the Live filter to see the live and replay ad-revenue breakdown: Monetize your live stream.
- Find Super Chat earnings. Check the Supers or How you make money breakdown and use the Super Chat line when available. Do not label the full Supers total “Super Chat” unless the detailed report confirms it contains only Super Chat.
- Check the report view if a figure is missing. If a Live-only filter does not show revenue in that report, switch to Live & on demand or use another supported revenue report. Available options can vary by view; YouTube notes this limitation in its live metrics instructions.
- Record the date you checked. Recent totals are estimates and can change as YouTube finalizes earnings.
Make sure you are comparing like with like

YouTube’s definitions and caveats for Estimated ad revenue, RPM, CPM, ad impressions, and monetized playbacks are in Understand ad revenue analytics. As YouTube puts it, “RPM is a useful monetization metric for creators, but it can’t tell your whole revenue story.”
Why the two revenue totals can differ
Ads depend on delivery, not just viewers
Ad revenue depends on factors such as eligibility, monetization settings, available inventory, viewer circumstances, and whether an ad slot actually serves. YouTube warns: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” A stream can have viewers without an ad serving for every viewer or ad opportunity. YouTube’s live monetization guidance also explains that automatic mid-roll settings affect delivery: automatic ads may pause for viewers sending Supers and snooze during high-engagement moments.
Super Chat is a viewer purchase
Super Chat revenue depends on viewers choosing to buy highlighted messages in live chat, and on applicable eligibility and Commerce Product Module terms. It is not a fixed share of views or ad impressions. A stream’s Super Chat-to-ad-revenue ratio therefore cannot be reliably projected from RPM or a universal rate.

Revenue shares do not predict one stream’s result
YouTube’s module descriptions specify 70% of net revenues for channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module, and 55% of net revenues from ads displayed or streamed on public Watch Page videos under the Watch Page Monetization Module. These are agreement terms, not a forecast of how much either source will generate on an individual livestream. See Choose how you want to monetize and YouTube partner earnings overview.
Allow for later adjustments
Studio figures are estimates. YouTube says monthly estimated revenue may be adjusted after about one week and again in the middle of the following month. Invalid traffic, Content ID claims or disputes, and certain campaign types can affect adjustments. For a fair comparison, keep the initial figures and check them again after the reporting period matures; do not treat a recent estimate as final. Details are in YouTube’s partner earnings overview.

Common comparison problems and fixes
- You see RPM but not separate earnings: Return to the Revenue tab’s source breakdown. RPM blends sources; it does not isolate ads or Super Chat.
- Supers is higher than the Super Chat line: Check whether Super Stickers or Super Thanks are included. Report the separate Super Chat line for a Super Chat comparison, or explicitly call the broader figure aggregate Supers.
- The Live filter hides a revenue figure: Try Live & on demand or another revenue report. Report availability depends on the view.
- The figures seem mismatched: Confirm both use the same livestream/video and date range. Check the filter and whether you are comparing an estimate with a later adjusted amount.
- Views suggest more ad earnings than Studio reports: Do not estimate revenue by multiplying views by CPM. Views, monetized playbacks, ad impressions, and creator earnings are not interchangeable.
