There is no evidence-backed universal winner for streaming prerecorded video to YouTube from an Indian cloud server. Start by checking whether the exact service and region you want support your workload, then estimate outbound traffic charges and test a sustained stream to YouTube before committing. Google Cloud merits early evaluation: its Live Stream documentation lists Mumbai and Delhi, and its network-pricing page describes a VM-to-Google-service category that includes YouTube and is not charged. That pricing rule does not prove every Google Cloud workload is free, cheapest overall, or fastest.

What to choose—and what the evidence can establish

For a self-managed setup, shortlist providers by the specific region, compute product, encoder workload, and network billing category—not by the country name alone. Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure all document cloud presence in India, but the available material does not compare their Indian virtual machines for sustained YouTube ingest or establish an apples-to-apples total monthly cost.

  • Evaluate Google Cloud early if Mumbai or Delhi suits your operation. Its Live Stream documentation lists Mumbai (asia-south1) and Delhi (asia-south2). Its network-pricing page describes uncharged transfer from a VM to certain Google products, including YouTube, under a particular VM-to-Google-service category; confirm that the exact VM, destination, route, and account qualify. Google Cloud Live Stream regions · Google Cloud network pricing
  • Consider AWS or Azure if their available India regions and compute products fit your needs, but do not infer YouTube-bound network cost or streaming performance from regional presence. AWS documents its India regions; Microsoft says it has four cloud regions in India. Azure’s bandwidth page says outbound transfer is charged at normal rates under its listed terms and exceptions. AWS India regions · Microsoft India region announcement · Azure bandwidth pricing

These sources establish region presence and selected billing rules, not a provider ranking. They do not provide comparative benchmarks for sustained upload quality to YouTube, or verify a specific VM size, operating-system image, GPU requirement, or tested FFmpeg/OBS command for this use case.

Decide what the cloud machine needs to do

A basic self-managed design consists of a cloud VM, a prerecorded file accessible to that machine, and an encoder or relay configured with YouTube’s ingestion endpoint and stream key. The resource requirements depend on the job:

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Relay an already encoded file: confirm that the chosen software can send the file and that the VM sustains the required outbound bitrate. Do not assume a particular instance size without checking the encoder, file format, and actual workload.
  • Transcode or change the stream: calculate the CPU or GPU needs and their cost for the selected encoder and cloud instance. Transcoding can materially change the resource profile; no universal instance shape is established here.
  • Run unattended: plan how the encoder restarts after a failure, how interruptions are detected, and how access to the stream key is restricted. These are operational checks, not provider-specific guarantees.

Choose a YouTube ingest protocol

RTMPS for a straightforward contribution stream

RTMPS carries RTMP through an SSL connection and uses port 443. Google describes it as a good choice for most ordinary content when low latency matters. For a basic continuous contribution stream, use a valid YouTube RTMPS ingestion endpoint and verify that the encoder and cloud network can reach it. Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide

HLS when its supported workflow or features fit

YouTube’s HLS instructions require HTTPS POST/PUT, TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments. HLS sends segments rather than a continuous stream, so YouTube says its latency is higher. HDR workflows have additional encoder requirements, including HEVC guidance; check the actual instance and encoder before assuming hardware encoding is available. Configure and validate the YouTube stream

  1. Prepare the YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, create or select the intended live stream and obtain its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection flow; keep the key private and use the intended endpoint for your stream. YouTube encoder setup
  2. Make the video available to the VM. Put the prerecorded file where the selected machine and encoder can access it. Confirm the format and playback behavior with the software you choose; no tested command or universal cloud image is established for this workflow.
  3. Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key, choose RTMPS for a standard lower-latency setup or HLS if the workflow requires it, and apply the selected protocol’s requirements. Confirm the encoder is reading the intended file and that it can sustain the outgoing stream.
  4. Start transmission and inspect YouTube’s preview. YouTube’s documented workflow is to start sending from the encoder, check the preview, and then go live. Resolve connection or preview problems before starting a public event.
  5. Test the real workload before relying on it. Run the intended video and output configuration long enough to observe sustained bitrate, dropped frames, reconnect behavior, and the selected ingest endpoint. Repeat after changes to region, instance, software, or protocol. No comparative provider benchmark is available to substitute for this test.

YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat that statement as a guarantee about longer broadcasts or other account-specific settings. YouTube’s encoder guide

Compare providers and estimate the real cost

Decision factor What to verify What the available evidence says
India region and product Check availability of the exact VM or managed live-stream service in your chosen region. Google Cloud’s Live Stream documentation lists Mumbai and Delhi. AWS documents India regions. Microsoft says it has four cloud regions in India. These do not establish identical product availability or performance.
Compute workload Determine whether you are relaying an encoded file or transcoding it; validate the selected instance and encoder. No universal VM size, GPU requirement, or tested encoder command is established.
Outbound traffic Estimate the stream’s traffic over the intended schedule and price it in the exact account-specific billing category. Google documents a VM-to-Google-service category including YouTube that is not charged; applicability must be checked for the exact route and VM. Azure says outbound data transfer is charged at normal rates under its pricing terms and exceptions. No comparable AWS YouTube-bound rule is established here.
Reliability in practice Test sustained bitrate, dropped frames, reconnect behavior, and the actual ingest endpoint. No comparative sustained-ingest benchmark for Indian provider regions is established.
Operations and security Plan unattended restarts, interruption alerts, and stream-key protection. These are workload requirements to evaluate, not verified provider-specific features.

For an always-on broadcast, outbound traffic may be a major part of the bill, so calculate it using the planned bitrate and hours plus the provider’s current rates for your account. Do not quote a total until you have the applicable compute, storage, and transfer prices; no exact VM price or cross-provider monthly comparison is established here.

When a managed cloud streaming service is simpler

If your goal is to keep prerecorded video running on YouTube rather than administer a VM, StreamNeo is an alternative to self-managed cloud infrastructure: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Each slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, includes 10 GB of storage pooled across active slots, and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free without a card, once per account; UPI and cards are supported in India, with card checkout worldwide. See StreamNeo and its plans.

Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos on YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start the free first day.

Common problems and what to check

  • YouTube does not receive the stream: recheck the server URL, stream key, and chosen ingest protocol. For RTMPS, confirm the machine can make the connection over port 443.
  • The stream starts but drops frames: measure whether the VM sustains the configured outbound bitrate with the actual file and encoder. Region availability by itself does not demonstrate a reliable route to YouTube.
  • The preview does not appear: confirm that the encoder is transmitting to the intended event and endpoint, then check the video source and connection settings before going live.
  • HLS is rejected or behaves unexpectedly: verify HTTPS POST/PUT, TS format, 1–4 second segments, and a rolling playlist with at most 5 outstanding segments; account for HLS’s higher latency.
  • The bill is higher than expected: inspect the exact VM, region, transfer destination, and billing category. Do not assume that a Google VM-to-YouTube pricing rule covers unrelated traffic or that Azure outbound transfer is free.
  • The encoder stops after an interruption: verify restart and alert behavior on the selected setup, and test recovery deliberately before depending on an unattended broadcast.

Copyright and YouTube policy checks

Cloud hosting does not grant rights to the video, music, or other material in a stream. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights and permissions required for every element and review YouTube’s current rules for live content and monetization. Replaying prerecorded material as live does not itself establish that the content is eligible for monetization or compliant with platform policies; check the rules that apply to your channel and content.
