Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your YouTube Live loop stream has no sound, first find where the audio disappears: the viewer’s player, the video or playlist, OBS or another encoder, or YouTube’s incoming stream. Check playback on another device, inspect the source and audio meters, verify mute and track routing, then make a short test recording and read YouTube Live Control Room’s health message. The right fix depends on which step is silent.
First, check whether the problem affects one viewer or everyone
Make sure the YouTube player is not muted, then test the live stream in another browser or on another device. Ask another viewer on a different connection whether they hear audio.
- Only one viewer hears silence: Check that viewer’s player volume, device output, browser and connection first. YouTube says a problem reported by a single viewer is likely to be on that viewer’s computer or connection.
- Several viewers on different connections hear silence: Investigate the source and the audio your encoder is sending.
This distinction prevents you from changing a working stream because of one playback-device problem. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide explains how to separate viewer-side issues from encoder or delivery problems.
Trace the audio from the loop source to the viewer
Check each point in order: the media file or playlist, the encoder mixer, the encoder’s output or local recording, YouTube’s Live Control Room health, and finally viewer playback. The first point where sound is missing narrows the cause.

1. Confirm the video itself has an audio track
Play the same file locally and listen. If it is silent there, the loop setting cannot fix it: looping repeats playback but cannot add audio that is absent from the file. If the file has sound, leave it playing while you inspect the encoder.
2. If you use OBS, watch the Audio Mixer
While the loop plays, open the OBS Audio Mixer and look for the expected source. Its meter should move when audio is playing. Check that the source is in the active scene and not muted. A stationary meter points toward a silent file, the wrong source, or a device that OBS is not capturing; a moving meter means check mute state, routing and the outgoing stream next.

If the loop is an OBS Media Source, verify that it points to the intended file and that Loop is enabled if you want it to repeat. If you use a VLC Video source, verify the playlist, Loop Playlist setting and selected audio track; OBS documents track 1 as the default. The loop control governs repetition, not whether the source has sound or whether that sound reaches YouTube. See OBS’s guides to Media Sources and the Audio Mixer.
If you rely on desktop audio or a microphone instead of audio embedded in the video, open Settings → Audio in OBS and confirm the correct input or output device is selected. OBS’s Quick Start Guide describes checking meter movement and choosing devices manually when the default is wrong.

3. Check mute, monitoring and stream-track assignment
Confirm the source is not muted. Listening through OBS monitoring can help you hear a source, but monitoring alone does not prove that it is included in the broadcast. In OBS’s Advanced Audio Properties and output settings, check which audio track is assigned to streaming. If you use separate tracks, the track enabled for the stream must include the loop’s audio; a meter can move even when the audio is assigned to a different track.
If you are checking a recording with multiple audio tracks, use a player that can select the track you intend to hear. OBS notes that ordinary video players generally play only one audio track. For a microphone or headset captured both globally under Settings → Audio and again as a scene source, remove the duplicate capture if you hear echo; duplicate capture is not the usual cause of complete silence. See OBS’s multiple audio track guide and audio sources guide.

4. Make a short test recording or test stream
Use a brief sample with representative audio. Listen to the local recording and, if you test live, check the stream from another device. If the encoder preview or local recording is already silent, focus on the file, source, mute state and track routing. If that output has sound but the YouTube delivery does not, inspect YouTube’s health messages and test the outbound connection.
YouTube recommends testing before going live, checking encoder output, reviewing any local archive and monitoring dashboard errors. If the encoder output sounds healthy but delivery is impaired, test the outbound internet connection and contact your ISP if the test points to a connection problem. Do not change audio bitrate as a generic cure for a muted or missing source.

Read YouTube’s Live Control Room health message
Check the stream’s health status for a specific configuration error. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation lists noAudioStream for an ingestion stream with no audio stream, when exactly one is required. It also identifies unsupported audio codecs and mismatched, low or high audio settings. Treat the message shown for your stream as evidence of what needs correction rather than assuming YouTube has muted correctly transmitted audio. See YouTube’s configuration issues reference.
For RTMP/RTMPS ingest, YouTube documents AAC or MP3 audio codecs. Its recommended audio settings include 44.1 kHz for stereo and 128 kbps stereo. These are checks for an indicated encoder configuration problem, not a substitute for confirming that the source contains audio and the correct track is being sent. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Common symptoms and fixes
| What you observe | Likely place to investigate | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The video file is silent when played locally | Media file or its audio track | Test another known-audio file; confirm the intended file is loaded. |
| OBS mixer meter does not move | Source, active scene or capture device | Confirm the source is present and playing; check device selection in Settings → Audio if using desktop or device audio. |
| OBS meter moves, but the test recording or stream is silent | Mute state or output-track routing | Check mute and ensure the loop source is assigned to the audio track used for streaming. |
| Local recording has sound, but YouTube reports an audio issue | Encoder output format or ingest configuration | Follow the exact Live Control Room health message; verify supported codec and indicated audio settings. |
| Encoder output and health look good, but a viewer hears nothing | Viewer playback or connection | Test another device and connection; check the affected viewer’s player and audio output. |
