Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You can make a 24/7 YouTube live stream from pre-recorded videos by sending YouTube a continuous feed from an encoder. The encoder can run on a computer you keep online, or a cloud service can host the playlist so your computer does not have to stay on. Before you start, confirm that your channel can livestream and that you have rights to every video and audio track you plan to play.
What a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream is
YouTube receives a live video feed from an encoder; it does not turn a playlist of uploaded videos into a continuous live broadcast by itself. Your encoder plays the prerecorded material and keeps sending video to the broadcast. YouTube describes live streaming as a way to interact with an audience in real time through a video feed and chat. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
This is different from going live with a camera: the content is prerecorded, but the feed is delivered as a live broadcast. The continuous part depends on the encoder or hosting service continuing to send valid video.
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to livestream. Your account must also meet YouTube’s live-streaming requirements. Check current eligibility and setup guidance in YouTube Help before building a long-running schedule.

Choose where the encoder will run
| Approach | Who runs the encoder | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Local computer | You operate streaming software or an encoder on a computer that stays available and connected. | You control the machine and software, but the setup depends on that computer remaining on, connected, and able to send the feed. |
| Cloud hosting | A hosted service runs the stream from its infrastructure. | It can avoid leaving a home computer running. Compare playlist controls, recovery after feed interruptions, live archive handling, service limits, and total cost. A vendor’s description is not an uptime guarantee. |
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming. Its Live Streaming API treats a broadcast and its incoming stream as separate resources and describes continuing to send video during a 24/7 broadcast. See YouTube Live Streaming API: Getting started. OBS has an official help portal, but the cited help material does not establish a verified click-by-click recipe for an unattended 24/7 playlist. The steps below describe the workflow, not a guaranteed configuration for a particular encoder version.
Set up the prerecorded stream
- Prepare the playlist. Choose the recordings and arrange the play order. Check that the full sequence can repeat without leaving an unintended gap or showing material you do not want in the broadcast. Confirm rights for each video, music track, and other third-party element before scheduling it.
- Confirm live eligibility. Verify the channel and check its live-streaming status against YouTube’s current requirements.
- Create a live broadcast in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube Studio’s current encoder setup flow to create or schedule the broadcast. The broadcast is the YouTube event; the encoder’s stream is the video feed connected to it.
- Connect the encoder. Use the stream details shown by YouTube Studio to configure your encoder and send the live video feed. Treat the stream key as a secret: do not publish it or include it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before continuing.
- Start playback and verify the feed. Start the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives video. Check the broadcast itself rather than assuming that a playlist playing locally means the audience can see it.
- Keep the feed running. For a local setup, the computer, encoder, and network connection must remain available. For a hosted setup, verify the provider’s playlist behavior, interruption recovery, archive handling, limits, and current terms.
Protect the channel from copyright interruptions
Review the rights for the entire playlist, not only its main video. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If identified material remains in the broadcast, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and resolve rights questions before going live.

For documentary channels, this matters for footage, archival clips, background music, narration samples, and any material licensed from a third party. Keep permission records and check that the permission covers livestream use; do not assume that material being available online or appearing in an earlier upload makes it safe to rebroadcast.

Troubleshoot a stream that will not stay live
- You cannot start a broadcast: check channel verification, live-streaming eligibility, and any restrictions in the preceding 90 days using YouTube’s current help guidance.
- YouTube is not receiving video: confirm that the encoder is running and configured with the current stream details from YouTube Studio. Check that the computer and network remain available if you use a local encoder.
- The playlist stops or leaves a gap: inspect the playlist and the encoder or hosting service’s repeat behavior. The broadcast can continue only while valid video is being sent.
- The broadcast is interrupted or terminated: check YouTube’s notice for a third-party content match. Review rights for the matched material and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where appropriate; a license may not by itself avert a live interruption.
- The live event and video feed seem mismatched: remember that YouTube’s broadcast and the incoming stream are separate resources. Recheck the broadcast selected in the encoder and the stream details in YouTube Studio.
Budget for the operating approach
A local workflow requires a computer capable of running an encoder, but the cited YouTube and OBS sources do not establish a minimum hardware specification for unattended 24/7 playlist streaming. Include the cost of keeping the computer and network available when comparing local operation with hosted service. For cloud hosting, verify the provider’s current price, included storage, stream controls, recovery behavior, and archive handling before committing; do not infer reliability from marketing language.
