For a designed on-screen alert, YouTube lists StreamElements as an integration for membership overlays and live alerts. Neither feature means YouTube will notify you about members who join while you are offline.
What YouTube does automatically
When someone joins your channel as a member during an active live stream, YouTube displays a bright green “New Member” chat message and pins that member’s profile picture at the top of live chat for five minutes. This is the built-in welcome; it does not establish that YouTube will play a spoken thank-you or show a custom-designed alert over the video. How to add a more visible alert
YouTube’s integration guidance lists StreamElements for recognizing members with in-stream overlays and live alerts, including membership-level information. If you want a visual alert beyond YouTube’s chat message, investigate that integration and verify its current setup, permissions, and available options before relying on it in a 24/7 broadcast. The documentation identifies the integration category but does not provide a guaranteed, step-by-step setup for every current interface.
Third-party integrations operate under their own terms. YouTube says membership data available through its Members API can include a member’s channel URL, name, profile image link, join time, and membership level, and creators may share this information with a third party to provide membership perks. What happens when someone joins while you are offline
A 24/7 broadcast can provide a live welcome only when a viewer joins while the broadcast is actually running. YouTube says it does not send a notification when a new member joins while the creator is offline. You can review membership information in YouTube Studio’s Memberships tab instead. YouTube’s Member Recognition Shelf is another way to thank members on your channel page: when enabled, it displays member avatars as public recognition, and the selection changes over time. Custom automation: when an API makes sense
YouTube describes its Live Chat API as allowing external applications to read, send, and moderate chat messages in real time during a live broadcast. That provides a route for a custom tool, but the API summary does not establish a complete implementation or guarantee how membership events are delivered during a continuously running stream.
- Plan for reconnects and confirm whether missed events can be recovered; the cited overview does not specify event replay or reconnect behavior.
- Prevent duplicate thank-you messages if your service reconnects or processes the same event more than once.
- Decide how the tool should handle moderation and what message it is allowed to send.
- Limit permissions and protect member information, especially if the tool uses membership data.

Check eligibility before configuring a live welcome
YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube supports memberships on horizontal live streams and vertical live feeds. Confirm current eligibility and format support in YouTube Help before planning around these features.
