YouTube’s watch-page Loop control is for viewers; it does not loop the feed you send as a creator. Before going live, confirm in your encoder’s preview that the video and audio restart and continue playing.
Why the stream stops when the playlist ends
With an encoder-based broadcast, your streaming software sends the video and audio feed to YouTube. If the media source finishes and the encoder sends no continuing content, the live feed cannot keep playing the show. The repeat setting therefore belongs in the encoder’s source or media playlist, not in the playlist controls on the YouTube watch page.
YouTube’s official encoder instructions describe connecting an encoder with a server URL and stream key, then starting the broadcast in Live Control Room. To end a broadcast, the creator clicks End Stream and stops sending content from the encoder. The exact behavior after a media file ends depends on the streaming software and how its sources are arranged.
Set the podcast source to repeat
- Open the streaming software that sends the show to YouTube. Find the media or playlist source containing the podcast episodes.
- Enable repeat or loop on that source or playlist, if the software provides it. If the show is assembled from separate sources, scenes, or a sequence rather than one playlist source, check what the software does after the final item. A source playlist and a scene sequence may not behave the same way.
- Verify the restart in the encoder preview. Let the current playback reach its end and confirm the first item restarts at the intended point. Check that both audio and video continue and remain in sync. YouTube recommends checking the preview before starting a stream: Get started with live streaming.
- Connect and start the encoder feed. In YouTube Live Control Room, use the server URL and stream key for the broadcast in your encoder, start sending the feed, and confirm it appears in the live preview before going live. Follow YouTube’s current instructions: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the encoder sending content for the full planned broadcast. Ending the stream in Live Control Room and stopping the encoder feed ends the broadcast; a repeating source does not override those actions.
These are general steps, not a verified click-by-click guide for a particular encoder or version. The YouTube pages cited here explain the encoder workflow but do not document a current media-loop menu for OBS or other encoders. Check the documentation for your software’s current version, or test the precise setup in a private or unlisted stream before relying on it unattended.

Do not confuse viewer controls, DVR, and HLS playlists
YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control
YouTube Help explains how a viewer can loop a video or playlist during playback. That watch-page control affects what the viewer plays; it does not configure the creator’s live encoder feed. See Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
DVR pause and rewind
DVR lets viewers pause or rewind a live stream where available. It does not replay the creator’s source or make an ended playlist start again. YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours: Manage live stream settings.

HLS rolling playlists
YouTube’s HLS setup instructions use “rolling playlist” to describe transport segments sent as part of an HLS feed. The instructions require no more than five outstanding segments and list OBS among encoders that support HLS output. That transport requirement is separate from repeating podcast episodes in a media playlist: Set up an HLS stream.
Check the behavior that matters before relying on a long broadcast
- Does the source repeat automatically after its last item?
- Does playback restart at the intended point, rather than stopping or leaving a gap?
- Do audio and video both restart and remain in sync?
- Can the encoder and playback setup run unattended for the intended duration?
Check these behaviors in your encoder’s current documentation or through a controlled private or unlisted preview. A successful first playback is not enough: observe what happens when the final item finishes.

Archive and long-stream considerations
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive behavior, not a guarantee that a media source will repeat or that the encoder will keep running. For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says DVR rewind capabilities may be limited or unavailable. Plan the source loop, encoder operation, and viewer expectations separately.
