That is different from publishing a prerecorded episode, which can be uploaded as a video or, in some regions, delivered to YouTube from an RSS feed. Choose the workflow that matches whether the episode is happening live.
Choose between a livestream and an on-demand episode
| Choice | What you publish | What you need | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| RSS episode publishing | A prerecorded episode from a podcast feed; YouTube creates a video using the show artwork. | An RSS feed and access to the feature in your region. | YouTube and YouTube Music through this feature; it does not distribute the episode to other podcast platforms. |
| Encoder livestream | A real-time broadcast, with live audio and a video signal such as a still image. | Live-streaming eligibility, a YouTube event, and an encoder sending audio and video. | A YouTube Live event; streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, according to YouTube Help. |
| Static-image video upload | A prerecorded episode combined with its artwork or another visual and uploaded as a video. | An audio-to-video file. YouTube’s podcast guidance also suggests an audiogram or other dynamic video as an option. | YouTube; this is not a livestream. |
YouTube defines a podcast as a playlist whose episodes are videos. For RSS instructions and regional availability, see YouTube Help: Distribute podcasts on YouTube. If RSS ingestion is not available to you, create a video from the episode audio and artwork or use another visual treatment.
Check live-stream eligibility before show day
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours. Confirm access in YouTube Studio well before scheduling your episode. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming and YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Set up the live audio show
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Set the title and visibility, and note the event’s start time. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Use the values shown for the event in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not share or publish it. Reset it if you think it has been exposed. YouTube’s guidance is at YouTube Help: Manage your stream key.
- Configure your encoder. Select YouTube or RTMP/RTMPS if the software offers a YouTube preset. Otherwise, paste in YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Route the microphone or finished program mix to the encoder’s audio input.
- Give the encoder a video signal. An audio-only show still needs video in the live feed. A still image with the podcast artwork is a simple choice; a branded background or audiogram also works. YouTube documents static-image video for audio podcasts and encoder-based live broadcasts separately; using a still image for a live show is a practical way to provide the required visual, not a special audio-only live mode.
- Choose compatible output settings. Use RTMP or RTMPS, H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR) where available. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo audio. Choose resolution and bitrate to suit the output you are actually sending and your upload capacity; do not treat one bitrate as correct for every resolution or connection. See YouTube Help: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Test the complete signal. Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event, as YouTube recommends. Check the Live Control Room preview for the image and sound, confirm the watch page is accessible with the intended visibility, and listen for clipping, silence, echo, or the wrong input. A private or unlisted test can help you check the setup without making the rehearsal public.
- Go live and monitor. Keep an eye on the Live Control Room and listen to the program while broadcasting. If the preview or status indicates a connection problem, reduce output demands or improve the connection before continuing.
- End the broadcast and check the archive. Stop the encoder when the show is over. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the recording afterward for complete audio and a usable image; do not assume an interrupted or longer stream was archived as expected.
Make the audio and connection dependable
Audio routing
Use the microphone or mixer input that carries the finished show, not a microphone that is merely connected but not selected in the encoder. Monitor through headphones to catch feedback and unwanted room sound. A separate microphone is optional: YouTube says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” If your current audio is unclear, a microphone compatible with your computer or encoder may help, but no particular model is required for this setup. See YouTube Help’s encoder guidance.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Upload capacity
Test the actual internet connection and leave headroom rather than setting the stream to consume all available upload bandwidth. YouTube’s network guidance recommends 20% upload headroom and says to account for primary and backup stream needs where relevant. Choose the video resolution and bitrate from YouTube’s current encoder guidance, then test under the conditions you expect to use on show day. A shared or unstable connection can perform differently from a quiet test. See YouTube Help: Streaming tips.
Copyright and podcast content
Make sure you have the rights needed for music, clips, images, and other material in both the live broadcast and its archive. For RSS-delivered episodes, YouTube recommends checking the resulting videos for monetization or copyright issues. A podcast format does not itself grant permission to use third-party material. Review the applicable YouTube policies and check the status of each uploaded or archived video in Studio.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel is not verified, has a live restriction, or first-time activation is still pending. | Check channel verification and live access in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation and resolve any restriction before the event. |
| The encoder connects to the wrong event or fails to connect | The server URL or stream key does not match the selected event, or the key was reset. | Copy the current server URL and key from that event in Live Control Room. Keep the key private and update it in the encoder if it changed. |
| Viewers hear no audio | The encoder is using the wrong input, the program bus is muted, or the output format is misconfigured. | Confirm the selected input carries the show mix; check mute and output settings, then verify sound in the Live Control Room preview before going live. |
| The image is missing or the stream will not start | The encoder is sending audio without a video signal, or its video configuration is incompatible. | Add the still image or other visual as the video source, and confirm the encoder is sending an H.264 video feed with compatible settings. |
| Preview stutters or the connection drops | The outgoing bitrate is too high for the available upload capacity or the connection is unstable. | Test the upload path, leave YouTube’s recommended headroom, and lower the resolution or bitrate to a level the connection can sustain. |
| The episode is not in the expected RSS workflow | RSS ingestion is not available in the creator’s region, or the feed or upload process needs attention. | Check the current podcast options in Studio and confirm the feed. If the feature is unavailable, make and upload a video with the episode audio and artwork instead. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your podcast is prerecorded and you want it to play continuously on YouTube, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs at the quality you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. This is for looping uploaded video, not broadcasting a live microphone or camera show. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
