How to Build a YouTube Podcast Playlist That Updates Automatically

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To have new podcast episodes appear on YouTube automatically, connect your show’s RSS feed through YouTube Studio’s podcast workflow. YouTube can turn new audio episodes into static-image videos and add them to your channel. This feature is available only in supported countries or regions. A YouTube podcast is a playlist, and its episodes are videos in that playlist.

Choose the right workflow for your podcast

For an audio-first show that already has an RSS feed, YouTube’s RSS delivery is the documented way to automate uploads of new episodes. YouTube creates static-image videos using your show art. For a video podcast—or if you want more control over each episode’s visuals—you can create a podcast playlist in YouTube Studio and upload video episodes yourself. YouTube also describes converting audio into video with static images or audiograms; it does not establish that a third-party converter will automatically sync a playlist.

Approach How new episodes reach YouTube Visual control Key consideration
RSS delivery New episodes added to the feed can upload automatically. YouTube creates static-image videos using show art. Availability is limited by region; feed dates can affect ordering, and changes to published audio require a re-upload.
Manual video upload Upload each episode through YouTube Studio. Use the video treatment you choose for each episode. Uploading and maintaining new episodes is not automatic through this workflow.
Third-party audio-to-video conversion Convert audio into video, then publish through a workflow that supports your needs. May support static-image or audiogram-style visuals. Confirm the provider’s current features; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not promise automatic playlist synchronization.

YouTube explains the podcast and playlist model in Distribute podcasts on YouTube. Check RSS feed delivery available locations before building your workflow around RSS.

Create or designate the podcast playlist

  1. Open YouTube Studio. Use the podcast creation flow to create a podcast, or open an existing playlist and add podcast features through its options. YouTube’s current instructions are in Create a podcast in YouTube Studio.
  2. Use the playlist for full episodes. Arrange full-length episodes in the order listeners should consume them. Do not treat it as a clips or Shorts playlist. YouTube says some playlists may not qualify for podcast features, including playlists containing content you do not own.
  3. Review the show details and artwork. RSS-delivered episodes use show art for their static-image videos. Check that the artwork and podcast details are suitable before connecting the feed.

Connect an RSS feed and set automatic delivery

The exact labels or placement in Studio can change. Follow the RSS option in the podcast’s settings and confirm the feed, ownership, episode selection and visibility before saving. YouTube’s full workflow is documented in Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Open the podcast’s RSS settings in YouTube Studio. Choose the option to connect an RSS feed and enter the feed address provided by your podcast host.
  2. Verify ownership if prompted. YouTube may send a verification code to the email address associated with the feed. Complete that check to establish that you can publish its episodes.
  3. Select the episodes to deliver. Review the feed episodes offered and choose which ones to publish. Back-catalog episodes added through RSS do not trigger subscriber notifications.
  4. Choose visibility. Confirm whether the episodes should be public, private or otherwise available under the options shown for your channel and feed.
  5. Save the setup. After delivery is enabled, new episodes added to the feed can upload automatically. YouTube says it will notify eligible subscribers when a new episode is added.

Access to advanced features may require identity verification. If the RSS option is unavailable, first check your channel owner’s location against YouTube’s supported-location list, then check whether your channel has the required access.

What does—and does not—update automatically

New episodes

When you publish a new episode to the connected RSS feed, YouTube can upload it to the channel and add it to the podcast. This automates new-episode delivery; it is not an unrestricted mirror of every change made at your podcast host.

Corrections to an episode already published

Replacing or editing the audio file in the RSS feed does not automatically replace the YouTube video already published. Use YouTube’s re-upload-from-RSS process to create a replacement. The former upload becomes private.

Show details and feed metadata

Changes to show details made in the feed do not automatically propagate to YouTube. Review the podcast’s YouTube details separately when you change show information.

Removing an episode

Deleting an RSS-uploaded video from YouTube does not remove the episode from the RSS feed. It can be uploaded again unless you remove it from the feed. If the goal is simply to hide the YouTube episode, use private visibility rather than relying on deletion to stop feed delivery.

Check episode order and release dates

For RSS-delivered videos, YouTube sorts episodes by the feed’s release date when one is present; otherwise, it uses the YouTube publish date. YouTube does not verify the RSS release date, so incorrect or missing dates can make the playlist order differ from what you expect. Check dates in the feed if episodes appear out of sequence.

Copyright, promotions and YouTube policy

  • Podcast episodes must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. Monetized podcasts are also subject to YouTube’s monetization policies.
  • YouTube’s RSS guidance says RSS-uploaded podcast content cannot contain advertisements. Treat this as an RSS-delivery restriction rather than a blanket statement about every YouTube podcast format.
  • Branded content, host-read promotions, sponsorships and endorsements require disclosure and must comply with applicable YouTube policies. Check the current rules before publishing promotional material through RSS.
  • RSS delivery publishes to YouTube and YouTube Music; it does not distribute the podcast to other platforms.

Troubleshoot common setup and publishing problems

The RSS option is missing

Check whether RSS delivery is available in the channel owner’s country or region. Also confirm that the channel has the advanced features access required for the action; YouTube may require identity verification.

The ownership code does not arrive

Confirm that the feed’s email address is accessible and correct, then request or complete verification through the prompt in Studio. If you cannot access that email, ask the podcast host to correct the feed contact details before trying again.

A new episode has not appeared

First check that the episode is present in the connected RSS feed and that the feed is the one linked to the intended podcast. Then review the selected episodes and visibility settings in Studio. YouTube documents automatic uploads for new feed episodes, but not every change to previously published episodes or show details.

An edited episode still has its old audio

That is expected: editing an existing RSS audio file does not replace its published YouTube video. Use the re-upload-from-RSS process to publish a replacement; the old upload becomes private.

An episode is in the wrong place in the playlist

Check whether the RSS item has a release date. YouTube uses that date for ordering when present, and falls back to the YouTube publish date when it is absent. The feed date is not verified by YouTube.

A deleted video returns

The RSS item remains available for delivery after you delete its YouTube video. Remove the episode from the feed to prevent it from being uploaded again, or set the YouTube video to private if your aim is to hide it.
