John Travolta’s former Qantas Boeing 707 is now in Australia with the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS), where it is being prepared for reassembly. Travolta donated the aircraft in 2017; after airworthiness restrictions ruled out flying it to Australia, it was dismantled in Georgia and shipped to Port Kembla in 2026. The most detailed public list of his other aircraft comes from a 2012 interview, not a verified current inventory.
What happened to John Travolta’s Boeing 707?
The aircraft began its story as a Qantas airliner, not as a celebrity-owned private jet. In his 2017 donation announcement, Travolta said it had been delivered to Qantas in 1964. After its airline service, it was converted for private use. Travolta later had it repainted in Qantas colors while serving as the airline’s ambassador.
Its private interior was a striking contrast with its commercial origins. ABC News reported that it included two bedrooms, a bathroom and areas for entertaining. The aircraft’s history and restoration needs were central to Travolta’s decision to donate it to HARS, an Australian aviation preservation organization.
Travolta announced the donation on May 26, 2017, noting that the aircraft needed substantial work before it could safely fly. He wrote: “The aircraft currently requires a lot of work to be restored to a safe flying state and having seen first hand the dedication and passion of people at HARS, I have no doubt this beautiful and historical aircraft will be flying again.”

Why was the 707 shipped to Australia?
The donation did not bring the aircraft straight to HARS. Airworthiness restrictions prevented HARS members from flying it from the United States to Australia, so the organization chose to transport it by ship. HARS president Bob De La Hunty described the decision to ABC News in March 2026: “We decided the most safe and practical way to do it was the big jigsaw puzzle, and that was the answer to those very expensive problems.”
A small US crew spent 60 days dismantling the aircraft in Georgia for transport. ABC News reported that the 707 measures 46.6 metres long, with a wingspan of 44.4 metres. Its fuselage, wings and tail arrived at Port Kembla in May 2026. The process also left HARS with a major refitting task: De La Hunty told ABC News, “There are 4,800 bolts that came out that need to go back in.”

HARS vice president Maureen Massey welcomed the aircraft’s arrival, telling ABC News: “It’s so exciting because we’ve waited so many years for this to happen, and to have it here on Australian soil is such a thrill.” She said the organization would work toward getting it to a taxi-able stage.
What is the 707’s current restoration status?
Australian Flying reported on June 10, 2026, that HARS was preparing the aircraft for full assembly later that year. That is the latest reviewed operational update; it does not confirm that assembly has since been completed or that the aircraft is open to visitors. What aircraft were in Travolta’s collection?
A December 2012 Business Jet Traveler interview is a useful dated snapshot, but it should not be read as a current or complete list. It named the following aircraft:

Why the former Qantas 707 stands out
The 707 links several histories in one aircraft: Qantas’s early jet era, a private conversion and celebrity ownership, and an ongoing preservation effort. Its move to Australia was not a routine transfer. The aircraft had to be taken apart because it could not make the journey under its own power, and HARS now faces the work of assembling it for its intended taxi-able condition.
That makes the 707 the clearest documented centerpiece of Travolta’s aviation story—not proof of how many aircraft he owns today, but a well-recorded example of an airliner being preserved after a remarkable second life.
