Harrison Wagner, the son of actors Kristina and Jack Wagner, died from fentanyl and alprazolam intoxication, and his death was ruled an accident, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records reported by E! News on December 5, 2022. He was 27 when he was found in a North Hollywood parking lot on June 6, 2022.

What was Harrison Wagner’s cause of death?

The medical examiner’s reported cause was intoxication from fentanyl and alprazolam. The manner of death was ruled an accident. E! News said it reviewed the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records; its December 5, 2022 report gave the final determination.

Cause and manner describe different things: the cause identifies the substances involved in the death, while the manner is the official classification of how the death occurred. The reported ruling does not establish details such as dosage, how the substances were obtained, or intent, and those should not be inferred.

Why did early reports say the cause was deferred?

When Wagner was found on June 6, 2022, the cause had not yet been determined. Early reports said the medical examiner deferred it pending additional investigation. That was an interim status, not a competing final conclusion.

A Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office representative told UPI that “Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies.” UPI published the explanation on June 9, 2022, in its report on the deferred finding. The later determination was reported after those additional steps.

How did Harrison Wagner’s family remember him?

After his death, his parents established the Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund in his memory. Entertainment Tonight reported that the fund was intended to help young men access care at New Life House Recovery Community. In the family statement reproduced by ET, they said they hoped the scholarship would help young men get help for addiction who otherwise could not afford it. ET’s December 5, 2022 coverage reported both the medical examiner’s finding and the family’s memorial response.

The coverage describes the fund’s purpose at that time; it does not establish its current status, eligibility rules, or a present donation route.
