A database correction changes that database’s record; it does not decide a contract or guild dispute. For an IMDb listing, submit an edit from the relevant title or person page and support it with evidence. For TMDb, add the participation on the title page or report the affected record with an explanation.
Check what is actually wrong
Compare the database listing with the released film’s end-credit sequence and reliable production documentation. Note the title and, for a series, the specific episode. Then identify the requested change: adding or correcting a credit, deleting one, moving it to another category, or fixing the person or title attached to it.
- The database differs from the evidence: submit a correction to that database and provide material that supports the change.
- The released film itself omits or misstates the credit: an online database edit will not change the film’s on-screen credit.
- The disagreement concerns professional entitlement: a database form is not a way to resolve a contractual or guild determination.
Correct a credit on IMDb
IMDb’s Adding Filmography Credits help page, updated 28 April 2026, says anyone with a free IMDb account can submit credits and directs users to make corrections through the site.
- Open the relevant IMDb title page or person’s name page and select Edit page.
- Find the contribution section for the credit and choose Correct/Delete, then continue.
- Select Correct beside the existing entry and edit the relevant details. The page you start from affects what you can edit: a person page lets you change the title or production, character, attribute, or order; a title page lets you change the associated person, character, attribute, or order.
- Review the changes, address any red or yellow warnings, and submit the contribution. To put a credit in a different category, use its edit control and choose the move-category action.
Attach evidence that fits the credit
IMDb says its filmography is based on a title’s end-credit sequence. If the person’s name appears in the released end credits, provide a clear screen capture showing the name in the credit roll. If the person is not named there, or the title is unreleased and its end credits are not final, other supporting evidence may be appropriate. IMDb’s evidence guidance, updated 8 October 2025, says evidence can be linked from a viewable third-party website or uploaded with the contribution.

If the IMDb correction does not appear
IMDb says a correction that does not appear within its normal processing period may not have been verifiable; its guidance recommends resubmitting with additional supporting evidence. Before doing so, read the contribution status or lock message. IMDb identifies possible issues including an unverifiable cast or crew member, a title marked as having a complete cast or crew, a submission in the wrong filmography section, or a section locked after verification. Check that the title or episode and credit category are correct, and follow any additional-verification instructions rather than repeatedly sending the same unsupported claim. IMDb also says it does not alter or delete information it considers correct and factual.
Correct or report a credit on TMDb
TMDb staff guidance says a person’s credits appear when participation is entered on the relevant movie or TV show page. If the title is already listed, add the participation on that title page rather than treating the person page as the primary place to enter the credit. If the affected record needs attention, staff guidance recommends selecting Report from the relevant movie, TV show, or person page, choosing the issue, and explaining it in the extra-details field. Include useful supporting information, such as a source URL, where available.

The available TMDb guidance is staff forum advice rather than a comprehensive current manual for every correction. Interface labels may change, so follow the instructions shown on the page. If the released film itself leaves out a credit or identifies someone incorrectly, correcting an online listing will only make that database more accurate; it will not amend the film or settle who is entitled to a credit. Writer-credit determinations are one example of a separate process: the Writers Guild of America publishes a screen-credit determination manual for writers. Do not assume that its process applies to other occupations, unions, countries, or contracts. Identify the applicable agreement and authority for the specific production and jurisdiction.
