Spoilers for Fall (2022). Hunter dies when she falls onto the satellite dish. Becky retrieves the supply bag, not Hunter; the Hunter who seems to remain beside her is a hallucination. Becky eventually reaches Hunter’s body, uses it to protect her phone during the drop, sends a message that alerts her father, and survives.
What happens to Hunter in Fall?
In Scott Mann’s 2022 survival thriller, Becky and her friend Hunter climb an abandoned radio tower and become stranded when the damaged ladder leaves them without a way down or a reliable way to call for help. The film’s premise places them atop a 2,000-foot television tower, according to Capstone Pictures’ film listing. Netflix’s synopsis sets up Becky’s isolation: her husband Dan died in a climbing accident, and she has spent the year since withdrawn in grief. Netflix’s synopsis

While trying to retrieve supplies, Hunter falls onto the satellite dish. Becky appears to pull her back up and carries on surviving with her, but the late reveal is that Becky recovered only the bag: Hunter died in the fall. The apparent conversations and teamwork afterward are Becky imagining her friend. This sequence is recounted in Den of Geek’s ending explainer.
How does Becky realize she is alone?
Becky asks the imagined Hunter for her other shoe. Hunter tells her that she is not really there. Becky understands that she has been alone since Hunter fell; the imagined companion had helped her keep going, but could not act in the physical world.

Becky then descends to the satellite dish and finds Hunter’s body. She types a message to her father, puts her phone inside Hunter’s shoe, and places the shoe inside Hunter’s body. She pushes the body down so it cushions the phone’s fall while the message is transmitted. The closing scene shows Becky’s father arriving and the two reuniting. Den of Geek’s ending explainer
What does Hunter’s hallucination mean?
The plot establishes that the later Hunter is a hallucination; what she represents is open to interpretation. One reading is that Becky imagines the encouragement she needs to survive, drawing on the support Hunter gave her before the fall. The reveal makes clear that Becky must finally act without that imagined help. This is a thematic interpretation, not a clinical diagnosis or a definitive statement of the filmmakers’ intent.

The reunion with her father can likewise be read as an emotional move toward connection after a year of grief and isolation. The film begins with Becky withdrawn after Dan’s death and ends with her back in contact with family. That reading fits the story’s arc, but it remains an interpretation rather than a confirmed, single meaning.

Director and co-writer Scott Mann said the idea grew from a conversation about fear of heights. In an interview, he described it as “a psychological, inert, fight-or-flight kind of thing, like a fear that we all have.” The Guardian’s interview with Mann
