There is no single Android app that carries every major sport, local game and out-of-market event. For most U.S. households, YouTube TV is the best general cable replacement; ESPN is the strongest network specialist; Fubo leads for sports breadth and soccer; and Peacock and Paramount+ work best as targeted complements. Your ZIP code, required networks, blackouts, add-ons and Android device should determine the final choice.
This comparison is U.S.-focused and current to August 16, 2026. Prices, rights, local affiliates, trials and supported devices can change by season, market, plan and promotion.
Quick comparison
| App | Best for | Main sports strength | Local channels | Price signal | Android notes | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | One broad live-TV replacement | Broadcast and national sports networks | Check by ZIP code | $82.99/month; one membership with up to six household accounts | Android phones/tablets; provider says Android L or later | Higher cost; add-ons and out-of-market rights are separate |
| ESPN | ESPN networks and ESPN+ content | College sports, ESPN programming, selected soccer and other ESPN rights | No general local-channel replacement | Select $12.99/month or $129.99/year; Unlimited $29.99/month or $299.99/year | Dedicated Android app | Select is not the full linear ESPN package |
| Fubo | Sports breadth and soccer | Soccer, motorsports, league and sports-network mix | Market- and plan-dependent | Check current plan selector | Android/Google Play app | Channel count does not guarantee every game |
| Hulu + Live TV | Sports plus Hulu and Disney+ | Live sports, ABC and ESPN-related access | Verify locally | Official materials show an $89.99/month core-plan signal | Check device and TV compatibility | Can be poor value for sports-only viewers |
| Sling TV | Custom, potentially lower-cost packages | Selected ESPN, FS1 and sports add-ons | Limited and market-specific | Check current package and add-ons | Android app and casting options vary by device | Add-ons can erase the initial savings |
| Peacock | NBC Sports and Premier League | Premier League and selected NBC events | Not a full local-TV service | Annual offer promoted as 12 months for the price of 10 | Confirm support for your Android TV/device | Event- and plan-specific coverage; ads remain in live sports |
| Paramount+ | CBS sports and soccer | UEFA and other Paramount/CBS rights | Does not automatically replace every local CBS broadcast | Check current plans | Android support depends on device and app-store region | Too narrow as an all-sports replacement |

What “sports streaming app” means
These seven services fall into two different categories. Multichannel live-TV apps—YouTube TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV—bundle broadcast stations and cable networks in a package resembling pay television. Direct-to-consumer specialists—ESPN, Peacock and Paramount+—concentrate on particular networks, leagues or rights packages. Comparing a $13 specialist plan directly with an $83 live-TV replacement is misleading: they solve different problems.

The seven best apps
1. YouTube TV — best overall live-TV replacement
YouTube TV is the strongest default for a household that wants one principal sports-and-entertainment service. Its package combines many broadcast and national sports networks, news and general entertainment. The current comparison page lists $82.99 per month for one membership with up to six household accounts. Use its ZIP-code checker before subscribing because local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliates vary.
The provider references smartphones and tablets running Android L or later and directs users to install the app from the device app store: YouTube TV device and lineup information. That page also explains local-channel checking. Buy at tv.youtube.com.
- Best fit: broadcast NFL games, national sports networks and a cable-like household package.
- Trade-offs: the monthly price is high, add-ons raise the bill, and no plan guarantees every league or out-of-market game.
- Verdict: choose it when convenience and broad general coverage matter more than paying only for one sport.
2. ESPN — best for ESPN networks and ESPN+ content
ESPN is the most important specialist choice, but its two 2026 plans are not interchangeable. ESPN Select focuses on ESPN+ content. ESPN Unlimited adds the wider ESPN ecosystem, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNNEWS, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPN on ABC, SEC+, ACCNX and ESPN+ content, according to ESPN’s support pages.
ESPN lists Select at $12.99 monthly or $129.99 annually, and Unlimited at $29.99 monthly or $299.99 annually: current ESPN plan prices. The Android app provides live events, scores, highlights and on-demand programming: Google Play listing. Subscribe at plus.espn.com.

- Trade-offs: Select is not full ESPN network access; neither plan replaces CBS, FOX, NBC, TNT or regional sports networks.
- Authentication: provider-linked access may require activation and linked credentials; ESPN documents the process at its Android activation guide.
3. Fubo — best for sports breadth and soccer
Fubo is designed for sports-first households. Its Android listing names MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, NCAA sports, WNBA, NFL, MLS, Formula 1, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga and Bundesliga. The listed mix includes ESPN, CBS Sports Network, FS1, NFL Network, NFL RedZone, NBA TV, MLB Network, NHL Network, beIN SPORTS, SEC Network, ACC Network, Big Ten Network, Tennis Channel and regional sports networks in many markets.
Those are listed offerings, not a promise that every event is available in every ZIP code or plan. Fubo says high-speed internet is necessary: Google Play listing. Check the current lineup and subscribe at fubo.tv.

- 4K streaming made simple:With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Best fit: soccer, motorsports and households needing many sports networks.
- Trade-offs: local affiliates, regional networks and exact channel packages are market- and plan-dependent.
- Verdict: a strong breadth choice, but verify the specific team, competition and ZIP code rather than relying on channel counts.
4. Hulu + Live TV — best sports-and-entertainment bundle
Hulu’s sports page advertises more than 100 live channels and access including ABC and ESPN-related sports programming. Its live-TV bundle also includes Hulu and Disney+ content, making it attractive when a household values entertainment catalogs as much as games. Current official materials show an $89.99/month core-plan signal; offers and included entitlements can change.
See Hulu’s sports page and its live-TV page. Verify local stations, the exact ESPN entitlement, ads and any trial before checkout.

- Trade-offs: sports-only viewers may pay for catalogs they do not use; local stations and sports networks vary.
- Verdict: choose the bundle for combined value, not as the cheapest way to watch one league.
5. Sling TV — best customizable lower-cost setup
Sling TV can reduce the starting bill by letting viewers choose a smaller base package and add selected sports channels. It can suit ESPN, ESPN2, FS1 and particular sports add-ons, depending on the package. Local broadcast availability is limited and market-specific, so many households pair Sling with an antenna.
Review the exact network, add-on and local availability at sling.com. The apparent base-price saving can disappear after sports extras, taxes and a separate local-TV solution.
- Best fit: viewers willing to construct a package around a few required networks.
- Trade-offs: the least expensive plan may omit the needed channel, and local coverage is not universal.
- Verdict: best for customization—not a blanket “cheapest sports app” recommendation.
6. Peacock — best for NBC Sports and Premier League
Peacock is a targeted complement rather than a cable replacement. Its sports hub is particularly useful for Premier League soccer and selected NBC Sports events. The official page promotes annual billing as 12 months for the price of 10; use the live plan selector for the current dollar amount. Peacock states that ads remain in live sports and some programming.
See the sports hub and current plans. Confirm that your particular Android phone, tablet or Android TV device is supported.

- Breathtaking picture quality: Stunningly sharp 4K picture brings out rich detail in your entertainment with four times the resolution of HD. Watch as colors pop off your screen and enjoy lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
7. Paramount+ — best for CBS sports and soccer
Paramount+ is most useful for CBS-owned sports and soccer, including UEFA-related coverage, and as a complement to a broader live-TV service. It does not automatically replace every local CBS station or every CBS sports broadcast in every plan and market.
Check Paramount+ Sports and the official product page for current rights and plans. It is a poor primary choice for viewers seeking broad NBA, MLB, NHL and regional coverage in one app.
Match the app to your sports
| If you need… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ESPN networks, SEC Network, ACC Network or ESPN+ content | ESPN, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo or Sling | Choose based on whether you need direct ESPN access or a broader channel bundle. |
| NFL games on local broadcast networks | YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV or Fubo | Local affiliates must be available in your ZIP code; Sling is limited. |
| NBC Sports and Premier League | Peacock | Its specialist rights are more relevant than a large channel count. |
| CBS sports and UEFA soccer | Paramount+ | Useful targeted coverage, but not every local CBS broadcast. |
| Regional sports networks | Fubo, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV or a team-specific service | Rights vary by team, territory, plan and season. |
| NBA, NHL or MLB | A combination of national, local and league services | No single app guarantees all games; blackouts and local rights apply. |
Blackouts, local channels and total cost
Check the local lineup first
ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC availability depends on your ZIP code, affiliate agreements, plan and the event’s distribution. A service may carry a national network while lacking your local station. Enter your ZIP code on the provider’s lineup page before paying.
Understand three kinds of blackout
- Local-market blackout: a league package may exclude a game shown by your local broadcaster.
- Regional sports blackout: territorial rights can restrict a team’s game inside or outside its home area.
- National exclusivity: an event may be available only through one network or service.
A VPN is not a dependable or policy-safe workaround. Services can block VPN connections, and bypassing location controls may violate their terms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCalculate the real monthly bill
Use base plan + sports add-ons + league packages + taxes and fees. A $13 specialist may be better value than an $83 live-TV package for one competition, while several specialists can cost more than one broad bundle. Annual plans lower the effective monthly rate but require greater upfront commitment.

An app may appear on Android phones but not in the Android TV Play Store. Stable high-speed internet is essential; Wi-Fi congestion, mobile-data limits, device decoding and peak-event demand can affect playback. A strong 5 GHz or wired connection may help, but it is not a guaranteed performance result.

Common Android problems and recovery
Provider or ESPN authentication loops
User reviews on the ESPN Google Play listing include anecdotal reports of repeated provider verification. If entitlement does not appear:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Confirm the subscription is active.
- Sign out of ESPN and the provider app or browser.
- Update the ESPN app and clear its cache.
- Reopen the provider’s activation link.
- Reconnect the correct MyDisney or provider account.
- Contact the provider if the entitlement is still missing.
Travel and country restrictions
Live-TV services may restrict access outside the registered home area, and international catalogs differ. U.S. availability should not be generalized to other countries.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest sports streaming app for Android?
There is no universal cheapest option. ESPN Select has the lowest verified price in this comparison at $12.99 monthly, but it focuses on ESPN+ content. Sling can be cheaper than a full live-TV bundle when its base package and add-ons match your required networks.
Can I watch ESPN without cable?
Yes. ESPN offers Select and Unlimited direct plans, but Select does not include the full linear ESPN network lineup. Check which plan carries the specific event.
Do I need more than one sports app?
Often, yes. Broadcast networks, ESPN, regional sports networks and league-specific rights are divided among providers. A broad live-TV service may cover most needs but not every out-of-market or specialist event.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I cast sports from an Android phone?
Casting depends on the app, television or streaming device and software version. Confirm casting support in the provider’s current Android documentation before subscribing.
The Bottom Line
Choose YouTube TV for the broadest one-app live-TV starting point, ESPN for ESPN-specific coverage, Fubo for sports breadth and soccer, Hulu + Live TV for sports plus entertainment, Sling for customization, Peacock for Premier League and NBC Sports, and Paramount+ for CBS and soccer. Check your ZIP code and exact event rights before paying: no Android app guarantees every game.
