Indy Clinton won Creator of the Year at the inaugural TikTok Australia Awards, held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. Andrew Davie’s Fitzroy Garage Party took Video of the Year, while the CommBank Matildas, Peach PRC and other creators shared the night’s honours. The ceremony also drew attention for a brief exchange between host Tony Armstrong and nominee Sopha Dopha.
What were the TikTok Australia Awards?
The 2023 ceremony introduced a new end-of-year awards format for TikTok’s Australian and New Zealand creator community, replacing the earlier TikTok For You Fest format. Presented by CeraVe, the event included 10 award categories and had BINGE as its streaming partner. TikTok’s launch announcements describe the format and partnership in its event announcement and its ceremony announcement.

Why did Tony Armstrong and Sopha Dopha’s exchange get attention?
During the ceremony, host Tony Armstrong approached nominee Sopha Dopha, who was seated in the audience. He told her she looked “ecstatic” and said he was “pumped” for her. She replied, “Stop flirting with me.” Armstrong said he had recently made his relationship public and described his remark as “flattery.”
PerthNow reported that the clip circulated online, where some viewers called the exchange awkward or said it caused “second-hand embarrassment”; others criticised Sopha Dopha’s interpretation of his comments. Those are reactions to the clip, not proof of Armstrong’s intent or hers. The exchange and reported responses were covered by PerthNow.

What was the Fitzroy Garage Party, and why did its win split commenters?
Andrew Davie’s Video of the Year entry was a clip of a group gathering in a Fitzroy garage in Melbourne. Its visual shorthand—mullets, alternative clothes, awkward dancing, vaping and a haircut sequence—fed into parody and imitation videos. Davie and Jordan Menadue accepted the award.
Some commenters questioned the choice, while others defended the clip as a funny communal trend with a life beyond the original post. The available coverage establishes mixed online reaction, not a formal judging dispute or a universally held view. TikTok confirmed the award in its recap; PerthNow’s coverage described the reactions.
How did Indy Clinton react to winning Creator of the Year?
Clinton, known for family and “mum life” videos, appeared emotional as she accepted the top award while pregnant with her third child. She said she was shocked and thanked voters, her children and her husband. Her acceptance was one of the ceremony’s personal moments, as reported by PerthNow.

Why did the Matildas win a creator award?
The CommBank Matildas received Sport Creator of the Year after a landmark 2023 that included the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team was not at the ceremony and accepted through a pre-recorded video. Their recognition reflects the awards’ broad view of TikTok creators: the categories included a national sporting team alongside individual entertainers and online personalities. Football Australia’s account of its post-World Cup accolades also places the recognition in the context of the team’s standout year.

Who hosted, and which guests attended?
The hosts were Tony Armstrong, media personality Abbie Chatfield and Kat Clark, who had been named TikTok Creator of the Year in 2022. TikTok’s ceremony announcement identified the presenting trio.
TikTok’s guest list included Peach PRC, Chris Olsen, Armani White, Francis Bourgeois, Peking Duk, Millie Ford, Luke and Sassy Scott, Matty J, Carla from Bankstown, Sopha Dopha and Black As. It also named casts from The Real Housewives of Sydney, FBOY Island Australia, Gladiators Australia and Paper Dolls. Inclusion on the guest list establishes attendance, not that every guest performed or presented.
Abbie Chatfield’s outfit
PerthNow singled out Chatfield’s plunging white gown, gold earrings and styled-up hair. The outfit was a fashion talking point rather than an award result; the description comes from its event coverage.
