This message usually appears in Streamlabs Desktop when it cannot retrieve your Twitch channel settings through the connected account. If Twitch works in a browser but Streamlabs does not, first revoke Streamlabs’ Twitch connection and authorize it again. A 401 Unauthorized or Invalid OAuth token points especially strongly to an authorization problem—not a video-quality setting.
First, identify where the problem is
“Error fetching your channel information” is commonly shown during Streamlabs Desktop’s Go Live setup. Streamlabs is requesting channel information and streaming permissions through an authorized Twitch connection; Twitch documents channel-information requests as authenticated API operations (Twitch API reference).
The message does not by itself prove Twitch is down or that anything is wrong with your channel. Sign in to Twitch in a browser, open your channel and Creator Dashboard, and note whether the failure occurs only in Streamlabs. If Twitch works there, prioritize the Streamlabs connection and local app. A 401 or invalid-token message is a strong reason to reconnect rather than repeatedly retrying the fetch.
- Check that you are using the intended Twitch account.
- Record the exact error text and any HTTP status, such as
401. - Do not share your stream key, OAuth token, or screenshots that reveal either.
Disconnect and reconnect Twitch
This is the best first fix for a stale, revoked, or incomplete authorization. Streamlabs recommends logging out of its website and software before disconnecting the integration (Streamlabs account-disconnection instructions).

- Log out of Streamlabs Desktop and Streamlabs.com, then close Streamlabs Desktop completely. If it remains open in the system tray or Task Manager, exit it there too.
- In a browser, sign in to the correct Twitch account and open Twitch Settings → Connections.
- Under Other Connections, find the Streamlabs entry—Streamlabs’ instructions call it Streamlabs Dashboard—and select Disconnect. The exact related entry can vary with the Streamlabs products you authorized.
- Clear Twitch cookies and site data in the browser you will use for authorization. If possible, remove data for Twitch only; also clear that browser’s cached files, then restart it and sign in to Twitch again. This is a secondary workaround for stale browser authorization state, not a guaranteed fix.
- Open Streamlabs Desktop, choose Twitch as the destination, and complete the authorization flow. Verify the displayed Twitch username before approving.
- Try Go Live again.
If authorization keeps selecting the wrong account, sign out of Twitch in the browser first or use a private/incognito window for the authorization step. Avoid repeatedly clicking “fetch again” when the message identifies an invalid token; it does not create a fresh authorization.
Confirm Twitch two-factor authentication
Streamlabs lists enabled Twitch two-factor authentication (2FA) among its going-live troubleshooting checks (Streamlabs going-live troubleshooting). Twitch 2FA is separate from Streamlabs account security, and neither setting is a stream key. Check the security settings of the Twitch account you intend to broadcast from.
If Twitch is not delivering verification codes, consult Twitch’s verification-code guidance; it recommends authenticator apps as a more reliable option than SMS in relevant cases. Missing 2FA can block broadcasting in applicable workflows, but it is not the cause of every channel-information error.

Check the stream key only if the key may be stale
A stream key authorizes broadcasting software to send a stream to your Twitch account. It is distinct from the OAuth connection Streamlabs uses to fetch channel settings, so resetting a key alone will not necessarily repair an invalid token.
- In Twitch, open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream to view or reset the key. Twitch’s stream-key FAQ documents this location.
- Reset it if it may have been exposed, Twitch invalidated it after a password change, Streamlabs is using an old key, or you recently recovered or secured the account after suspicious activity.
- After a reset, log out of Streamlabs Desktop and back in; reconnect Twitch if needed so the software can obtain the replacement credentials. Streamlabs notes that resetting the key can interrupt broadcasting software access until it reconnects (Streamlabs stream-key reset instructions).
Never paste the key into a support post, comment, form, or screenshot. If someone else has seen it, reset it in Twitch.
Try Streamlabs’ desktop troubleshooting steps
Do these after reauthorization, especially if Streamlabs also fails to load, crashes, or cannot update local settings. Streamlabs’ current guidance includes the following checks; menu labels can vary by app version (Streamlabs troubleshooting guide).

Restart Streamlabs as administrator
Log out of Streamlabs Desktop, close it, then launch it with Run as administrator and log back in. This is a permissions workaround for local access or configuration problems; it will not make a revoked Twitch token valid.
Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 Redistributables
If components fail to load or the app continues to behave abnormally, install the Microsoft C++ 2022 Redistributables recommended by Streamlabs, using Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable download page, then restart Windows. Older instructions naming the 2017 package are not the current package specified by Streamlabs’ cited guidance.

Run Auto-Optimizer
In Streamlabs Desktop, look under Settings → General for Auto-Optimizer. Run it, apply its recommended configuration, and retry. This adjusts streaming configuration; it is not an OAuth repair.

Test network and security software
A VPN, proxy, firewall rule, or blocked authorization window can interfere with connecting to Twitch. Test one change at a time so you can identify whether it matters:
- Temporarily disconnect from a VPN and check whether a proxy is configured.
- Restart the router, or try another network such as a phone hotspot.
- Check that Windows Firewall and security software allow Streamlabs Desktop and its browser-based authorization flow. Do not leave protection disabled; if you briefly turn it off for a controlled test, turn it back on immediately.
- Confirm the computer’s date and time are correct, since secure authentication relies on valid time settings.
Change Bind to IP only for a path or connection error
This is an advanced Streamlabs workaround, not an early fix for an expired token. If Streamlabs reports Invalid Path or Connection URL or a similar binding-related connection error, open Settings → Advanced → Bind to IP and change Default to the local address of the active network adapter. Streamlabs documents this option in its going-live guide.
The address may begin with 192.168. or 10.0.. A computer can show separate addresses for Wi-Fi, Ethernet, VPNs, and virtual adapters, so choose the connected adapter actually carrying the network connection—not a disconnected or virtual one. If this change worsens the problem, restore Default.

Check for a service problem before reinstalling
Check Twitch’s official status page and Streamlabs’ official support or status channels. Also see whether Twitch login, channel pages, and Creator Dashboard work in a browser. The Streamlabs message alone cannot establish an outage; a local authorization failure and a platform-side incident can look similar in the app.
A reinstall is not the first step. Before any file-level repair or reinstall, back up Streamlabs scenes, profiles, and settings. Avoid old, version-specific advice to delete DLLs or configuration files unless Streamlabs support gives instructions for your installation.
What “Go Live Anyway” and another encoder can tell you
Use “Go Live Anyway” as a limited test
If your version of Streamlabs offers Go Live Anyway, it may bypass the channel-information preview. Confirm the intended Twitch account and destination before using it. It cannot repair an invalid OAuth token, stream key, or account restriction; if Twitch returns 401, reconnect the account instead of repeatedly bypassing the check.
Compare with another encoder when you need to isolate the fault
Trying another encoder, such as OBS Studio, can help determine whether the failure is specific to Streamlabs’ account integration or affects broadcasting more generally. A manual stream-key test is diagnostic, not a permanent first choice: the key can be mistyped or exposed, resetting it means updating the encoder, and a successful stream would not prove Streamlabs’ account link is repaired. Twitch warns that stream keys must not be shared (Twitch stream-key FAQ).
When to contact support
Contact Streamlabs support if Twitch works normally in a browser but authorization repeatedly fails, especially if multiple browsers still produce 401 errors, login cannot complete, or Streamlabs crashes. Contact Twitch if you cannot use Twitch login, Creator Dashboard, or 2FA, or if the account is locked, compromised, suspended, or unable to broadcast. An account restriction cannot be fixed with a Streamlabs setting.
Include the exact error, operating system and Streamlabs Desktop version, whether 2FA is enabled, whether you disconnected and reauthorized Twitch, and whether the issue occurs in other encoders. Redact stream keys, OAuth tokens, email addresses, and other personal information from logs and screenshots.
