If a game is missing on Twitch, first check whether you’re searching the right place: use Browse → Categories, not general channel search. If the category opens but shows no streams, clear filters and check again later. If the title is absent from the directory under its likely names, Twitch may not have an eligible category for it.
Find a game in Twitch’s category directory
- On desktop, open Twitch and select Browse, then Categories.
- Search for the game in the category search field. Twitch’s category guide describes this browsing path; the Twitch directory is a direct alternative to the home page.
- Select the matching game category to see its live channels.
- If you find the category but not the streams you expect, clear filters and try another sort option.
Category search is different from general Twitch search: the latter may return channels without locating a game category. Categories organize streams by game or other content type; tags add descriptors such as language or play style, but a tag is not a substitute for a missing game category.
Use the Twitch mobile app or website
In the Twitch app, tap Browse, then search for the game or browse categories. Twitch’s mobile app announcement describes Browse as a place to search and explore by category. The layout can vary with app version, operating system, language, and account rollout.
If the app does not find a title, open the directory in a mobile browser. When the website works but the app does not, use the website temporarily, then try updating or restarting the app; reinstalling is another practical troubleshooting step. These steps help isolate an app-specific issue but are not guaranteed fixes.

If search still does not find the game
Try likely title variations
Search the full official title, then try it without punctuation or a subtitle. If relevant, try the commonly used English name, the original title instead of a localized name, or the parent game rather than its DLC or expansion. A remake, remaster, beta, demo, or platform edition is not necessarily a separate Twitch category.
Check the directory and the filters
Open the directory directly instead of relying on recommendations or the home page. If the category appears empty, remove language and tag filters, change sorting, and check whether anyone is live at that moment. Twitch category pages can be sorted by viewer count or recommendations, but an empty live list does not prove that the category is missing. Look for clips or VODs separately if you are not specifically looking for a live broadcast.

Compare app and website results
If one finds the game and the other does not, the discrepancy may be app-specific. If neither finds it, the category may be absent, listed under another name, or ineligible as a separate entry. If another browser or account gets a different result, cached data, extensions, account state, or personalization may be involved; test these as possibilities, not as confirmed causes.
Twitch documents a mobile deep-link format, twitch://game/<game name>, for opening a game directory in the app. It is mainly intended for developers and third-party apps; unless you already have a confirmed link for the exact category, use Twitch’s directory rather than guessing a link. If Twitch does not have a category for the game
A missing search result can be a catalog issue, not a search failure. Twitch says eligible games are based on entries in IGDB. Twitch users can sign in to IGDB with a Twitch account to contribute a missing game or correct an existing entry. The Twitch guide to adding a game and box art explains the process.
- Sign in to IGDB with your Twitch account.
- Search IGDB first so you do not create a duplicate.
- If the game is genuinely missing, submit an entry; if it exists but is inaccurate, suggest a correction.
- Follow IGDB’s contribution and eligibility rules, then allow time for review and synchronization.
Twitch says approved IGDB changes are applied to Twitch automatically, but its cited guidance does not give a universal turnaround for a new game category. Its statement that approved cover-art submissions typically appear within 24 hours applies to cover art, not necessarily to new categories.

Not every related release qualifies for its own category. Twitch lists exclusions that include games marked Rumored or Cancelled, alternative versions of another game, expansions, bundles, DLC, mods, standalone episodes, and seasons. Remakes, remasters, demos, betas, and early-access releases should not be assumed to receive separate categories either. When no separate category exists, use the parent game only if it accurately describes the stream.

- Open Creator Dashboard.
- Go to Stream Manager and select Edit Stream Info.
- Search for the appropriate category and select it, then save the stream information.
Twitch says streamers can change the category during a stream and should choose the one that accurately represents the content. Streamers cannot create custom categories. If no suitable category exists, choose the closest accurate one; Twitch identifies Just Chatting as a fallback for general content without an appropriate category. Avoid selecting an unrelated popular game for visibility: it can mislead viewers and make the stream harder to find for people seeking the actual game.

If you are broadcasting a mobile game
This is a separate issue from finding a game to watch. In Twitch’s mobile broadcasting flow, select a game during stream setup. Common mobile games—and, on Android, games installed on the device—may appear, but Twitch says you can search for a game that is not listed.
