Spotify already offers music videos in many countries, mainly to Premium listeners. The feature is still in beta, and access depends on your market, account, device and whether a particular track has a video. Free listeners can watch in Brazil and Colombia, according to Spotify’s current support page.
What Spotify music videos are—and what they aren’t
Spotify’s music videos are full-length videos linked to supported songs or releases. They are different from Canvas loops, short artist Clips and video podcasts. In the Now Playing screen, eligible tracks show a “Switch to video” control. Spotify starts the video at the point where the song is playing; “Switch to audio” returns to the audio version.
The catalog is selective, not a video for every song. It can include official videos as well as live performances and covers. Spotify describes the feature as a beta, and availability can vary with catalog and rights coverage.

Do you need Spotify Premium?
Premium is the main supported tier for music videos in the listed markets. Free access is explicitly listed for Brazil and Colombia; Spotify says it may expand to additional countries. A Premium account alone does not ensure access to a particular video: the account’s market, the device and the video’s availability all matter.
If you are considering Premium just for videos, first check whether the feature is available where your account is based and whether the artists you want have videos on Spotify. The feature adds video to Spotify’s listening experience; it is not a promise of a complete music-video library.

- Open Spotify on a supported device. Spotify names iOS, Android, desktop and TV, though availability can vary.
- Find a song or artist with a video and start playing the track.
- Open the Now Playing view and tap “Switch to video”, if shown.
- On a phone, rotate to landscape for full-screen viewing.
- Tap “Switch to audio” to return to the audio version and background listening.
You can also explore Related Music Videos, an artist’s profile under the Music tab, genre- or era-based video playlists, search and video sections. “Videos for You” is available in the U.S., Canada and most music-video markets, according to Spotify’s December 2025 announcement, which was later updated to reflect its rollout. Spotify also has a Music Video Charts Global ranking of the top 50 videos by daily Spotify video streams, described on its support page.

Spotify’s announcements explain switching between audio and video but do not promise offline music-video downloads. Video playback will also use more data and battery than audio, though Spotify has not supplied a universal usage figure in the sources cited here.
Why “Switch to video” might be missing
A missing control does not necessarily mean your app is broken. The track may not have a video, your market or account tier may not qualify, the feature may not be available on that device, or a video may be unavailable because of rights or catalog changes. Canvas and other short visuals are not full-length music videos.
- Try a different track or find a video through the artist’s profile or Related Music Videos.
- Check your account’s country and whether your tier supports video access there.
- Update Spotify, restart the app and try another supported device.
- If one video is missing only in a particular market, treat it as a catalog or rights availability issue; Spotify does not give a universal explanation for every territory-specific omission.
How Spotify videos differ from other visuals
| Format | What it is |
|---|---|
| Music video | Full-length video connected to a song or release, with audio/video switching in Now Playing. |
| Canvas | A short looping visual associated with the Now Playing experience. |
| Clips | Short-form artist videos. Spotify for Artists says it is ending support for new Clips uploads as full-length video uploads expand; existing Clips remain available during the transition. |
| Video podcast | A separate podcast format, not music-video playback. |
| Countdown video | Promotional video content associated with an upcoming release. |
Spotify’s integrated controls and links to songs, playlists and artist pages make its videos useful for listeners who already use Spotify. They do not make it a replacement for YouTube or YouTube Music: this beta has a market- and rights-dependent selection, while YouTube’s ecosystem is video-first. No catalog-size or pricing comparison is established here.

What artists and labels need to know
Delivery through a label or distributor
For most artists, the normal route is still delivery through a label or distributor. Spotify’s support page says availability of distributor-delivered videos follows its market list; artists should not assume delivery makes a video available worldwide. In the United States, Spotify says songwriter and publisher data registered with the MLC helps determine whether a video is eligible for distribution. That eligibility check is separate from delivering the video. A video can be removed from Spotify for Artists by having the label or distributor remove it.
Direct uploads through Spotify for Artists
Spotify began gradually expanding a beta for direct full-length video uploads through Spotify for Artists on June 17, 2026. Access is limited, not a general-purpose video-hosting service. Eligible formats include official music videos, live performances, acoustic or studio sessions, and covers. Spotify recommends landscape 16:9 video; visualizers, lyric videos, multi-song concerts and videos without music are not currently supported.
For teams with access, Spotify’s upload guidance says to log in to Spotify for Artists on desktop, open Video & Visuals, and use the video-upload tools. After upload, Spotify processes the video before it becomes available. Artists who do not see the tools can join the waitlist. Spotify says uploads are royalty-bearing and may be eligible for charts; it does not specify a fixed royalty rate.
Is Spotify’s feature a reason to switch or upgrade?
Spotify’s practical advantage is integration: video can sit alongside the same music library, playlists, recommendations, artist pages and audio controls listeners already use. The trade-off is limited coverage. If you want a video-first catalog, official channels and broad video discovery, YouTube or YouTube Music may fit better; this is a product-fit distinction, not a verified catalog-size comparison. Premium may make sense if videos are available in your market and the artists you follow are represented, but it will not unlock every video everywhere.
