Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchYes—if your LG Smart TV is compatible, you can install Max from Home → Apps → Search or, on older models, Home → LG Content Store → Search. Search for Max, then select Install. Availability depends on your TV model, webOS version and region, so the app may not appear on every LG television.
Before you install Max
Check these items first so you can tell an installation problem from a compatibility or account issue:
- Connect the TV to the internet and make sure you can open other online apps.
- Confirm the country or region set on the TV matches where you use it. The app catalog can vary by region.
- Find your exact LG model and webOS version. LG’s menus vary by model and year; its TV information guidance lists these paths as general starting points:
- 2023 and newer models, generally webOS 23 or newer: Settings → Support → TV Information.
- 2021–2022 models: Settings → All Settings → General → Devices → TV Management → TV Information.
- 2020 models: Settings → All Settings → Support → TV Information.
- 2014–2019 models: Settings → All Settings → General → About this TV → TV Information.
- Check for available TV software updates before troubleshooting the app. Menu labels can differ by model, language and region.
- Have the sign-in details for your Max account or the provider that bills your subscription. Installing the app alone does not grant access to paid programming.
LG notes that pressing the remote’s Mute button three times can also display TV information on supported models. For compatibility details, see LG’s guidance on checking TV information and available apps.
Check whether your LG TV supports Max
Max is distributed for compatible LG televisions through the LG Content Store. Support is not universal: LG says app availability can depend on the TV model, release year, webOS version and region. A Max app on your phone does not establish that the TV supports the app; TV apps have their own platform requirements. See Max’s supported-device information and LG’s instructions for finding supported Content Store apps.

The quickest check is to search the TV’s app store for Max. If it does not appear, use LG’s online app-availability information for your country and model. Do not assume that every TV from a particular year—or every TV running a particular webOS version—supports Max; the available guidance does not establish one minimum webOS version that applies to all markets and models.
Install Max on a newer LG Smart TV
- Press Home on the LG remote.
- Open Apps. On some models, the equivalent entry is LG Content Store.
- Select the Search icon and enter Max.
- Select the official Max app in the results.
- Choose Install. When installation finishes, select Launch.
LG’s newer webOS instructions generally use Home → Apps → Search; labels and layout can vary. Refer to LG’s webOS Content Store instructions if the menus on your TV differ.
Install Max on an older LG TV
- Press Home on the remote.
- Choose LG Content Store.
- Select Search and enter Max.
- Choose the Max app, then select Install.
- Select Launch when installation is complete.
Older webOS versions may place the store and search controls differently. LG’s install and delete app instructions cover the older store flow.

Sign in or subscribe on the TV
If you already have Max
- Open Max and choose Sign In.
- Use the QR code shown on the TV if available, or follow the app’s instructions for its activation code.
- On a phone or computer, scan the QR code or open the exact address shown in the TV app. Enter the code if prompted, then sign in using the credentials associated with your Max account.
- Return to the TV and start streaming.
The sign-in flow may use a QR code or a six-digit code, and the displayed instructions can vary with the app version and account. If you pay through a cable, internet, app-store or other participating provider, follow Max’s account or provider instructions and use the account linked to that subscription. Max describes the LG sign-in flow at its LG Smart TV sign-in and subscription page.
If you need a subscription
Choose Subscribe Now in the TV app if that option is available, or use the QR code or activation address displayed on the TV. Follow the prompts to select a plan, create an account and add payment information; then choose Start Streaming on the TV. The subscription may be billed by Max or another provider. If you already receive Max through a provider, check that account before starting another subscription.
Max plans and U.S. prices
The Max app can be installed without charge, but viewing generally requires an eligible subscription or provider arrangement. The following are U.S. direct-billing prices shown on Max’s official help page on August 18, 2026; they are not guaranteed future prices. Taxes, promotions, bundles and provider-specific prices or terms can differ. Check Max’s current plan and billing information before subscribing.

| Plan | Monthly price | Annual price | Features listed by Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic with Ads | $9.99/month | $99.99/year | Two simultaneous streams; Full HD |

| Premium | $20.99/month | $209.99/year | Four simultaneous streams; 4K where available; Dolby Atmos where available; 100 downloads |
Plan features do not guarantee that a particular LG TV or title can play in 4K or Dolby Atmos. Availability also depends on the content, television, audio equipment and network. Provider billing may require account changes or cancellation through that provider rather than Max.
Max does not appear in the LG Content Store
Work through these checks in order. An absent search result can indicate that the app is unsupported for the model or region, not merely that the store is malfunctioning.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that the TV is online and that the LG account is signed in if the store asks for one.
- Check the TV’s country or region setting against the country where you are using it. A TV sold in one country may show a different catalog elsewhere. Do not change the region as a first-line workaround: it can affect other apps, services and account behavior.
- Search for Max, not HBO Max. Older instructions or account references may use the former name.
- Check the exact model and webOS information using the paths above, then compare availability with LG’s information for the relevant model and region.
- Install any available LG TV software update, restart the TV and search again.
- If Max remains absent, treat direct installation as unsupported for that model or region unless LG or Max confirms otherwise.
LG’s guidance explains that availability differs by TV and location: find apps in the LG Content Store and check app installation and compatibility. Do not try to install an Android APK or an unofficial USB package on an LG webOS TV. That is not the standard LG or Max installation route and can introduce security, compatibility or account risks.

Update or reinstall Max
Update the app
Max gives this update path for LG TVs: Home → LG Content Store → Apps → My Apps → Max → Update. If there is no Update option, the app may already be current. Menu names can vary with webOS.
To check TV software, Max lists Settings → All Settings → General → About this TV → Check for updates. On newer models, the location or label may differ. See Max’s LG app troubleshooting steps.
Delete and reinstall
- Press Home and highlight Max.
- Press and hold the remote’s central Select/OK button to enter app edit mode, if supported.
- Highlight Max and choose the X, trash or delete option; confirm deletion.
- Open Apps or LG Content Store, search for Max and select Install.
- Launch the app and sign in again.
Removing the app does not itself cancel a subscription. Cancellation or plan changes must be handled by the provider that bills the account.

Fix buffering, playback failures or crashes
Restart the app and TV
- Close Max from the recent-apps view if your TV provides one, reopen it, and sign out and back in if needed.
- If Max is stuck or crashes, sign out if possible, unplug the TV for about 20 seconds, reconnect it, then open Max and sign in again.
Restart the network and check speed
- Unplug the modem and router and wait about 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the modem and wait for internet service to return, then reconnect the router.
- Restart the TV and try Max again.
Max says HD streaming requires at least 5 Mbps and recommends 50 Mbps or more for the best 4K experience. These are service guidance figures, not guarantees of stable playback: Wi-Fi interference, congestion, packet loss and other network use can still cause buffering. If the TV has an Ethernet port, try a wired connection. See Max’s buffering and playback guidance.
Work out whether the issue is the TV, network or account
Try Max on a phone, computer or another supported TV using the same network. If it fails there too, the account, service or home network may be involved; if it works elsewhere, focus on the LG TV app, software or compatibility. For a sound problem, check the TV’s audio output and test another title. For a sign-in code that fails, request a fresh code and use the exact page shown in the app.
| Symptom | Possible cause | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Max is missing from the store | Model, webOS or region may not be supported | Check LG’s app availability information for the model and country. |
| Install is unavailable | LG account, region, storage or network issue | Check account status, free storage and internet connection. |
| App crashes on launch | Outdated software or a damaged installation | Update the app and TV, restart, then reinstall if needed. |
| Activation code fails | Expired code, wrong account or activation-page problem | Generate a new code and follow the address and instructions displayed by Max. |
| Video buffers | Slow or unstable connection or network congestion | Check connection conditions, reduce other network use or try Ethernet. |
| No sound | Audio-output setting or title-specific issue | Check the TV audio output and try a different title. |
| 4K is unavailable | Plan, title, TV, app or network limitation | Check that the plan and title offer 4K and the TV and connection support it. |
| Max works on a phone but not the TV | Separate TV-app compatibility or software issue | Update the TV and verify support for its model and region. |
If you contact support, note the exact on-screen message or error code first. Max’s troubleshooting guidance covers app update and reinstall steps.
If your LG TV is unsupported
Use Max on another supported device connected to the TV instead of attempting an unofficial installation. Options may include a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google TV or Android TV device, Apple TV, game console, or compatible casting or AirPlay setup. Check Max’s current supported-device list for your country and the exact device model before buying or configuring one; availability is not guaranteed across all regions and models.
An external player is often a more proportionate fix than replacing a television solely because its built-in app is unsupported. If you choose one, compare current Max support, 4K/HDR and audio compatibility, remote and interface preferences, network connection options, and software-update support.
