Yes—but the headline needs context. Sony Pictures Core launched on October 5, 2023, and Sony still lists a curated collection of up to 100 ad-free Sony Pictures movies for PlayStation Plus Premium members in the United States as of August 2026. The films are viewed in the separate Sony Pictures Core app, not directly in the regular PlayStation Plus game interface. The selection rotates, varies by country, and is not Sony’s complete movie library.
What the 100-movie benefit actually means
Premium members can watch titles in Sony’s Included with PlayStation Plus section without paying a separate rental or purchase charge. “Free movies” is therefore shorthand: the movies are included with a paid PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, rather than being available at no cost to anyone with a PlayStation account.
Sony describes the selection as a curated collection of up to 100 movies. It is updated periodically, so the number is a catalog description, not a permanent promise that exactly the same 100 titles will always be present. Movies outside that collection can still appear in the app but require a rental or purchase.
The launch announcement gave examples including Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium and Resident Evil Damnation. Those were launch examples, not a guaranteed August 2026 lineup. A Sony Pictures Core account is required even when your PlayStation Plus tier includes the movies. Deluxe is the local name for the Premium-equivalent tier in some markets, and titles, languages, formats and availability vary by country. Sony’s current US details are on its Sony Pictures Core page.
How to watch on PS5 or PS4

- From the media home, open TV & Video.
- Select the Sony Pictures Core app.
- Sign in with your PlayStation account or register a Sony Pictures Core account.
- Open the app and browse or search.
- Choose Included with PlayStation Plus to see movies covered by Premium.
- Select a title to start playback, or choose the rental or purchase option when the film is not included.
PS4
- From the home screen’s content area, open TV & Video.
- Select Sony Pictures Core.
- Sign in using the on-screen instructions or QR code.
- Browse the included catalog or search for a title.
- Start playback, or select rental or purchase where applicable.

What Sony Pictures Core is—and is not
Sony Pictures Core is Sony’s movie service for PlayStation consoles. Alongside the Premium-included collection, it offers rentals, purchases and selected Sony Pictures releases. Sony says the wider service can contain about 2,000 movies for rental or purchase, although the actual selection depends on territory.

- It is not the entire Sony Pictures library.
- It is not a general replacement for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ or another broad streaming service.
- It does not give Essential or Extra subscribers the included 100-movie catalog.
- It does not guarantee that a searched title is included; some results carry a rental or purchase price.
- It does not guarantee 4K, IMAX Enhanced or Dolby Atmos for every movie. Supported titles and formats vary by market.
Where the app works
Sony’s current PlayStation documentation confirms Sony Pictures Core on PS5 and PS4. The service is available in a defined list of countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and several European markets. Regional catalogs, subtitles, audio tracks and video formats differ, so a US listing should not be treated as universal. The current support list is maintained on Sony’s support page.

Premium is a sensible fit when
- You already own a PS4 or PS5 and want Premium’s gaming features.
- You watch Sony films and are happy with a rotating selection.
- You want occasional included movies without another movie rental charge.
- You prefer watching through a PlayStation connected to your television.
Premium is a poor movie-only upgrade when
- You want current theatrical releases.
- You expect every Sony Pictures film to be included.
- You need a stable, published lineup.
- You do not own a compatible PlayStation.
- You already receive most of the films you want elsewhere.
The movie catalog is best treated as an extra Premium benefit, not the sole justification for a $159.99 annual subscription. Confirm that the current in-app selection contains films you actually want, then weigh that against Premium’s gaming features.
Rental and purchase rules
If a movie is not included, Sony Pictures Core can offer it for rent or purchase. Sony’s FAQ says a rental generally must be started within 30 days; after playback begins, viewers generally have 48 hours to finish it. Purchased films are added to the Sony Pictures Core library and can be accessed while signed in. Service terms and availability can vary by territory.

Common problems and fixes
The app is missing
Look in the console’s TV & Video area or the PlayStation Store. If it still does not appear, your account region may not support Sony Pictures Core, or the local service may offer different content.
Premium is active but the movies do not appear
- Check that the correct PlayStation account is signed in.
- Confirm that the subscription is active and is Premium (or regional Deluxe), not Extra or Essential.
- Finish Sony Pictures Core account setup.
- Open the Included with PlayStation Plus section rather than the general store.
- Check whether the title rotated out or is paid-only in your country.
A title asks for payment
Search results combine included, rental and purchase options. Return to Included with PlayStation Plus or inspect the title’s pricing label before confirming a transaction.
The Bottom Line
PlayStation Plus Premium still includes access to up to 100 rotating, ad-free Sony Pictures movies through Sony Pictures Core on PS4 and PS5. It is a real ongoing benefit, launched on October 5, 2023—not a new 2026 streaming service—and it is worth considering mainly alongside Premium’s gaming benefits, not as a standalone replacement for a full movie subscription.
