As of September 28, 2026, Nintendo Switch has no officially documented Netflix app. Nintendo’s support and eShop information discusses Netflix for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, but does not list a Switch release. Nintendo and Netflix have not published a definitive explanation for the omission, so claims about a rejected deal, DRM, hardware limits or payment disputes remain unconfirmed hypotheses.
What Nintendo officially confirms
Nintendo’s published Netflix guidance is historical. It states that the Netflix app was removed from the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Family eShops on December 31, 2020, and that Netflix service on those systems ended on June 30, 2021.
Nintendo’s “Cannot Find Netflix on the Nintendo eShop” guidance likewise addresses Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems. The reviewed Nintendo documentation does not document a Netflix app for Nintendo Switch.
Why the Switch has no Netflix app
There is no official Nintendo or Netflix statement identifying one decisive reason. Several explanations are plausible, but none should be presented as established fact:

#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Hardware and software requirements
Streaming services must support a console’s operating system, playback pipeline and content-protection requirements. The available documentation does not show that any particular Switch hardware or DRM limitation blocked Netflix.
Business terms
Netflix and Nintendo would have to agree on commercial, technical and support arrangements. Neither company has publicly confirmed that negotiations failed, that Nintendo refused a payment, or that Netflix rejected the platform.
Rank #2
- 6.2” LCD screen
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
Development priorities
Nintendo may have prioritized games and core system functions over additional video apps. That is a reasonable interpretation of the platform’s direction, not a published explanation.
A games-first strategy
Nintendo has previously supported video services on dedicated consoles and handhelds, so the absence of Netflix is not proof that the company never wanted media apps. It does indicate that app availability is decided service by service rather than guaranteed for every platform.

Video apps are handled individually
Nintendo documents Crunchyroll on Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED and Switch 2. Nintendo has also announced that Crunchyroll service for Switch will discontinue on October 30, 2026. This shows that having one streaming app does not imply that Netflix will follow, and that an app’s availability can change later.
How to watch Netflix if you own a Switch
The practical solution is to use a separate device that officially supports Netflix. Netflix says its app is available through app stores on most supported devices and often comes pre-installed on newer televisions and TV-streaming devices. It also advises users with a streaming stick, cable box or game console to check whether that exact device has the Netflix app.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- 6.2” LCD screen.
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Choose a supported device category. A Netflix-compatible streaming stick is the clearest TV-based workaround. A smart TV or another supported game console may also work.
- Verify the exact model. Check Netflix’s current device support and certification for the model, region and operating system you intend to use. Availability can differ by country and platform generation.
- Confirm your subscription. Watching still requires a Netflix plan that is available in your region; the Switch itself does not provide Netflix access.
- Connect and install. For a streaming stick or console, connect it to an HDMI input, open its app store, install Netflix if listed, and sign in. On a smart TV, use the television’s app store or the pre-installed Netflix app.
Alternative-device checklist
| Option | Netflix app | TV connection | Portability | Picture features | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix-compatible streaming stick | Check the exact model’s current Netflix listing | Typically HDMI; model-specific | Designed to move between compatible TVs | Not established here; model and plan dependent | Model, region, certification and service status |
| Smart TV | Check the television’s current app store and Netflix support | Built into the TV | Usually stays with the TV | Not established here; TV and plan dependent | Model, region and software support |
| Supported game console | Check the console’s current app store | Typically HDMI | Portable between compatible TVs | Not established here; console and plan dependent | Console model, region and Netflix certification |
What not to assume
- A browser workaround is not an official Netflix app for Switch.
- The existence of Crunchyroll on Switch does not establish Netflix compatibility.
- Older Wii U or 3DS Netflix support does not carry over to Switch.
- Any explanation involving DRM, hardware, negotiations or licensing remains speculative until Nintendo or Netflix confirms it.
Bottom line
Nintendo Switch does not have an officially documented Netflix app as of September 28, 2026. Nintendo has not stated why. To watch Netflix, use a separately supported streaming stick, smart TV or game console, checking the exact model and region before buying or setting it up.
