Elon Musk mocked a video presented as an Anonymous warning in June 2021, but the available reporting never established that Anonymous made it. The clip criticized Musk’s influence over cryptocurrency and used threatening language; a report later said the account YourAnonCentral denied involvement.
What the video said
Over the weekend before June 8, 2021, an account claiming an association with Anonymous uploaded a video aimed at Musk. Its robotic narrator accused him of harming people through his influence in cryptocurrency and public debate.
The narrator said, “You may think that you are the smartest person in the room, but now you have met your match,” followed by, “We are Anonymous! We are Legion! Expect us.” Those are words heard in the video, not a verified statement from a named Anonymous representative.
Why the attribution was uncertain
The clip was presented as an Anonymous threat, but its authorship was not independently verified. Futurism reported that little was known about the video’s original intent, while CoinGape reported that YourAnonCentral later denied involvement. Anonymous is a decentralized label rather than a single organization with a universally recognized spokesperson, so the presence of its imagery or slogans does not by itself prove who produced a video.

Accordingly, the defensible description is “a video posted by an account claiming to be associated with Anonymous,” not “Anonymous threatened Musk.” The accusations about Musk’s cryptocurrency influence also belong to the video’s narrator; the reports do not establish them as independent findings.
Musk’s responses
June 9: “Not even a good fake anonymous”
On June 9, Musk dismissed the clip in a post reproduced by CoinGape: “Not even a good fake anonymous.” The wording challenged the video’s credibility and implied that he did not believe it represented the real Anonymous collective.
June 14: the Hannah Montana meme
Five days later, Musk posted an image taken from the video: a person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask with the line “Miley Cyrus is Hannah Montana.” Hindustan Times reported that the post had received more than 340,000 likes by the time of its June 15, 2021 article. That was a contemporaneous engagement figure, not a current platform total.
The joke relies on the fact that Miley Cyrus played the fictional character Hannah Montana. Musk used the identity-reversal meme to ridicule the clip’s presentation rather than to prove who had made it.

The separate parody that is easy to confuse with the original
Futurism described a later satirical sequel from an account called “Not Financial Advice,” identified in that report as a Tesla investor and Musk supporter. The parody recast the video’s voice as Tesla analyst Gordon Johnson. Musk responded to that parody with two laughing emojis.
That sequel was commentary on the first clip, not evidence about who created it. Treating the parody, the original video and the Anonymous label as one event would blur three separate pieces of the story.

Did Anonymous really threaten Elon Musk?
The available reports do not establish that. They establish that a video used Anonymous branding and threat-like language, and that an account claiming an association with Anonymous posted it. They also record a later denial from YourAnonCentral. Without primary verification or forensic attribution, the authorship remains uncertain.

Musk’s two posts attacked the video’s authenticity and style. The June 9 reply called it a bad fake; the June 14 meme mocked the masked presentation through a familiar pop-culture identity joke. Neither post resolved whether any Anonymous-linked person was behind the upload, nor did either verify or disprove the video’s allegations about cryptocurrency.
