If it still says Premium, the problem is more likely a stale session, app, device, network or Spotify service fault.
Do not buy Premium again until you identify which account and billing channel was charged.

Use this decision path first
- Open your Spotify account page in a browser and check Your plan or Manage your plan.
- If it says Free, log out and sign back in with every method you may have used: email and password, phone number, Apple, Google or Facebook (where available).
- Check payment history, plan eligibility and the billing provider.
- For Family, Duo or Student plans, check membership or verification status.
- If the account page says Premium, log out and back in on the affected device, update Spotify, then test the web player or another device.
- Check Spotify’s official status channels before repeatedly changing payment details.

Check that Premium belongs to this account
A common scenario is paying on one Spotify account and then signing into another. Apple’s private-relay address, a Google or Facebook login, a phone-number login and an ordinary email login can all lead to different accounts.
- Sign out of Spotify everywhere you can access it.
- Try each login method you may have used when subscribing.
- Return to the account page after each login and check the plan status.
Spotify recommends this account check for missing Premium features: Premium not working. If another account was charged, its receipt and plan page—not the account currently showing Free—are the relevant records.

Do not subscribe a second time until you find the original account. A second purchase can create duplicate billing without restoring Premium on the account you are viewing.
Fix payment and billing failures
When a card or payment method fails
If the problem started near your billing date, open the account page and review payment details. Check that the method has sufficient funds, has not expired or been replaced, permits recurring payments and allows secure online transactions. Where required, it must also allow foreign transactions and be issued in the same country as the Spotify account.
- Re-enter the payment details from Your plan or Manage your plan.
- Retry in a private or incognito browser window if the payment page behaves incorrectly.
- Try another payment method.
- Contact the bank if declines continue, especially when recurring or international transactions are blocked.
Spotify says a failed monthly payment may be retried over the following days, so Premium does not necessarily end immediately. See Spotify’s failed-payment guidance.
When the bank shows a charge
A pending authorization is not proof that Spotify received a completed subscription payment. Banks may reserve funds temporarily and release them if the transaction fails. Identify the merchant, date and receipt, then compare them with the Spotify account’s payment history. The charge may belong to another Spotify account, a partner or an app-store billing channel, or may still be synchronizing.

When another company bills you
Look under Payment on the account page. If a mobile or internet provider bills the plan, that provider controls payment and restoration. If the subscription uses Google Play Billing, management may involve the Android Spotify app or Google Play arrangement. Spotify’s cancellation and partner-plan guidance explains where the relevant contact information appears.
A gift, prepaid period or free trial can also end without a new monthly charge. A directly canceled paid plan normally remains active until its next billing date; a zero-priced free trial can switch to Free immediately when canceled.
Family and Duo: the manager controls access
If you are a Family or Duo member rather than the plan manager, your access can disappear because the manager removed you, Spotify could not verify eligibility or the manager’s payment failed. The member usually cannot repair the manager’s billing or cancellation problem from their own account.
- Ask the manager whether your account was removed.
- Confirm that the invitation was accepted by the correct Spotify account.
- Check whether Spotify requested address or eligibility verification.
- Ask the manager to check the plan, payment status and membership list, then invite the correct account again if necessary.

Student Premium may need annual renewal
Premium Student requires re-verification every 12 months. Eligible students can receive the discount for up to four years, but each year must be renewed and the institution must be available in the verification process.
- Follow Spotify’s renewal prompt and complete verification.
- If verification fails, contact SheerID through the process Spotify provides.
- Check the plan’s payment and partner restrictions for your market.
If the discount expires, Spotify says the subscription can continue at the regular price unless you cancel. Renewal information is in Spotify Premium Student eligibility and Student discount renewal.
Check travel and account-country settings
Spotify bases the account country on where the account was created. A Premium user who genuinely moves may need to change the country and use a payment method issued there; the change takes effect from the next billing date and can alter catalog availability and pricing. See country and region settings.
Spotify’s playback guidance also says users who spend more than 14 days abroad may be unable to play until they update account settings. The exact rule depends on the account country and service availability, so treat it as a regional account issue rather than a universal timer.

Do not change country merely to fix an app glitch, and do not use a VPN as a first-line remedy. A VPN can obscure your real region and complicate payment or eligibility checks.

If the browser account page confirms Premium, separate an account problem from a local playback problem:
- Log out of Spotify on the affected device.
- Close the app completely, reopen it and sign in to the confirmed Premium account.
- Update Spotify and the device operating system.
- Test the web player and another device.
- Check the network, offline mode, available storage, desktop firewall and Android SD card if applicable.
- Clear the app cache where your platform permits it.
- Restart the device.
- Reinstall Spotify only after these checks.
If Premium works elsewhere, the fault is local to the original app or device. If it fails everywhere, investigate the account, network, country setting or Spotify service. Spotify’s troubleshooting sequence is documented at Spotify not playing.
Reinstalling is not a subscription repair. It removes downloaded music and podcasts, which must be downloaded again.

Check for a Spotify-wide incident
When the account page is correct but Premium features fail on several devices, check Spotify’s official status account, @SpotifyStatus, and the Community Ongoing Issues board. Test both the app and web player, and avoid repeatedly editing payment details during a confirmed outage.
What not to do
- Do not buy Premium again before identifying the account and billing channel that was charged.
- Do not treat a pending bank authorization as a successful payment.
- Do not reinstall first. It cannot restore a canceled or unpaid plan and removes downloads.
- Do not change country unless you actually moved and can meet the new country’s payment requirements.
- Do not install “Premium fixer” apps or share your Spotify password or card details with unofficial services.
Contact the right party
Escalate with the evidence that matches the failure:
- Spotify: account status, direct Spotify payment history and plan eligibility.
- Your bank: a completed or declined transaction, recurring-payment block or card problem.
- Apple, Google Play or a mobile/internet provider: billing handled through that company.
- Family or Duo manager: membership, verification and manager-plan payment issues.
- SheerID: a Student verification failure after following Spotify’s renewal flow.
Have your Spotify login email or method, plan type, transaction date, receipt, payment-method type (never the full card number), whether the charge is pending or completed, billing provider, device and operating system ready. This lets the responsible party distinguish a missing subscription from a playback fault without creating a duplicate purchase.
