Yes—Piaggio really made a Star Wars droid. G1T4-M1N1 is a licensed, astromech-inspired special edition of the company’s gitamini cargo-following robot, launched on May 2, 2025, with Disney and Lucasfilm. It can identify its paired user, follow behind, avoid obstacles and carry up to 20 pounds. It is not a talking R2-D2 replica: it is an autonomous cargo robot with Star Wars styling, sounds and lights.
Piaggio’s product announcement and StarWars.com’s launch report describe the collaboration and the underlying gitamini technology.
What G1T4-M1N1 actually is
The name is a stylized version of “gitamini,” and the machine is fundamentally Piaggio Fast Forward’s compact gitamini robot rather than a new robot platform. Its yellow shell, dome-like detailing, side-leg struts, decals, custom lights and droid sound library evoke the astromech family, particularly the visual language associated with R2-D2.
Piaggio calls it a “real-life Droid,” but that phrase needs a practical translation. G1T4-M1N1 is a Star Wars-themed autonomous cargo-following robot—not a humanoid, a conversational artificial-intelligence companion or a functional movie prop.

What it does when you use it
Follow-me cargo carrying
After pairing and activating the robot, the owner becomes its “leader.” Cameras and onboard sensors recognize and track that person. The robot adjusts its speed and following distance, moves around obstacles and is designed to pass through relatively tight spaces while carrying belongings.
Piaggio describes this behavior as “pedestrian etiquette”: the robot is intended to follow at a comfortable distance and respond politely to changes in walking speed. The company says the navigation relies on computer vision and sensors rather than GPS, the same basic approach used by its conventional gitamini and gitaplus robots. See Piaggio’s FAQ for the company’s operating explanations.

Terrain, weather and handling limits
Piaggio says the robot can manage moderately uneven surfaces such as grass, gravel, dirt, hills and concrete, and can use ramps up to a 16% grade. The same FAQ identifies conditions that require caution or assistance:
- It cannot independently climb stairs or curbs; a person must help it.
- Sand, snow, mud and very tall grass can interfere with operation.
- The cargo-bin lid is not watertight. Rain resistance is not the same as waterproofing.
- The 28-pound machine must be lifted into a car, over a curb or up stairs.
- The 20-pound cargo ceiling rules out heavy equipment or large delivery loads.
These limitations matter as much as the droid styling for apartment residents, commuters and anyone planning outdoor use.

How much G1T4-M1N1 costs and whether you can buy one
As of August 18, 2026, Disney Store lists the original G1T4-M1N1 at $2,875, but the listing is marked out of stock and says “retiring soon.” The special edition was offered through Piaggio Fast Forward and Disney Store, so availability is likely to change rather than remain a normal, continuously stocked product. Check the current Disney listing and Piaggio’s announcement before treating any listing as available.
Disney’s listing also states that the product has no refunds, exchanges or returns because of its unique nature. That makes the purchase materially different from buying a conventional toy or ordinary consumer gadget.

The 2026 follow-up: Grogu gitamini
Piaggio later introduced a separate Star Wars edition inspired by Grogu’s hovering pram from The Mandalorian. The Grogu gitamini retains the cargo-following platform but uses a different themed exterior. Piaggio lists it at $2,875; Disney Store also lists that price but currently marks it out of stock.
Disney’s listing says the Grogu version is limited to one per guest, ships only to a physical address, excludes international delivery and certain U.S. territories, and carries the same no-return language. Details are subject to change; see Piaggio’s Grogu announcement, Piaggio’s site and the Disney product page.
Who should consider it?
A reasonable match
- Collectors who want licensed Star Wars merchandise that performs a real physical function.
- People who already want a compact follow-me cargo robot and prefer the themed design.
- Walkers who regularly carry up to 20 pounds of supplies, groceries or hobby equipment.
- Buyers comfortable paying a collector premium and lifting a 28-pound machine.
Probably the wrong product
- Anyone seeking a conversational household droid or voice-controlled companion.
- Users who need more than 20 pounds of capacity or routinely face stairs and curbs.
- People whose routes include deep sand, mud, snow or rough trails.
- Apartment residents without convenient storage and charging space.
- Shoppers who expect toy pricing, easy returns or dependable international shipping.
Alternatives within Piaggio’s range
The standard gitamini offers the practical cargo-following concept without the Star Wars collector styling. Piaggio’s larger gitaplus carries up to 40 pounds, but weighs approximately 50 pounds and is intended for more open environments; see Piaggio’s gitaplus information and its FAQ.
If the goal is simply an affordable Star Wars robot for display or play, conventional remote-control products are a different category. Disney Store’s remote-control toy section has included R2-D2-style products priced far below $2,875, although stock and prices change.
The verdict
G1T4-M1N1 is best understood as premium functional fandom. Its follow-me navigation, cargo bin, app and sensors make it more than a display collectible, while its lights, sounds and astromech-inspired shell make the underlying gitamini emotionally recognizable as a Star Wars droid. The $2,875 price buys that combination—not the capabilities of a fictional R2-series machine.
