The benefit is onboard access to a curated selection—not a free Apple TV+ membership—and the programs are available only when the aircraft and current entertainment catalog support them.
What United actually announced
United announced the Apple partnership on August 12, 2025. At launch, the airline said full seasons of selected Apple Original series were available on more than 130,000 seatback screens and through the United app. United’s announcement described the programming as free for passengers.
That wording matters: United is providing selected shows inside its inflight-entertainment system. It is not giving passengers an Apple TV+ account, unrestricted access to Apple’s catalog, permanent downloads, or a subscription that continues after landing.
Which Apple series were included?
The confirmed launch lineup consisted of full seasons of:

Those announcements establish the launch and planned additions, not a guaranteed August 2026 lineup. Content can rotate with licensing windows and aircraft software, so check the entertainment preview for your specific flight.
How to watch onboard
Seatback entertainment
On an equipped aircraft, open the seatback entertainment menu and look for the Apple TV or Apple Originals section. Playback runs through the aircraft system, so you do not need to stream the episode over your own internet connection.

Your phone or tablet
United also identified its mobile app as an access point. Before departure, update the app and charge your device. Once onboard, connect to the aircraft’s United Wi-Fi network, open the app, and locate its inflight-entertainment area. The exact labels can vary by app version and aircraft; this is app-based onboard entertainment, not ordinary internet streaming.
Headphones and power
Bring headphones. Bluetooth pairing is available on some United seatback systems, but the Apple announcement does not establish fleetwide Bluetooth support. Wired headphones, or a compatible airline audio adapter, are the safer fallback. Personal-device viewing also makes battery capacity and an appropriate charging cable important.

Is it free, and do you need an account?
United’s announcement described the selected programming as free to passengers. It did not state that viewers need an Apple TV+ subscription, Apple ID, MileagePlus membership, or a paid Wi-Fi plan. Because United did not publish a universal account policy in that announcement, the precise access prompt can still depend on the aircraft’s system and app experience.
Watching an episode onboard does not create an Apple TV+ trial, discount, offline copy, or post-flight entitlement. Anyone who wants to continue a series after the trip would need to obtain access separately through Apple’s service: Apple TV+.

Will Apple programming be on your United flight?
Availability is equipment- and catalog-dependent. United’s launch figure of more than 130,000 screens was a fleet total, not a promise that every aircraft or every seat has a screen. United has discussed a future target of more than 300,000 seatback screens as aircraft are delivered and retrofitted; that is a development plan, not a current coverage guarantee.
- Aircraft: A seatback-equipped aircraft offers the simplest experience. Aircraft using personal-device entertainment require the app, onboard network, a charged device, and headphones.
- Route and operator: Treat the benefit as applying to eligible United-operated flights with the relevant system. Do not assume it will appear on every United Express segment or a codeshare operated by another airline.
- Aircraft swaps: A substitution can change the entertainment hardware.
- Catalog timing: A launch title may rotate out, while another title may appear on a particular aircraft or software version.
A secondary industry report said Severance could be viewed on domestic or international United flights with inflight entertainment, but the safer practical test is whether your particular flight shows the Apple channel in its preview.

What to do if the channel is missing
- Confirm that your phone is connected to the aircraft’s United network, rather than cellular data or a different Wi-Fi network.
- Close and reopen the United app and check that it was updated before boarding.
- Look at the seatback system if your aircraft has one.
- Review the flight-specific entertainment preview to see whether the title has rotated out.
- Ask a flight attendant whether the aircraft uses seatback screens or personal-device entertainment.
Reinstalling the app, changing DNS settings, or using a VPN is not a guaranteed fix and is unnecessary for a catalog or equipment limitation.
Where Apple fits in United’s entertainment strategy
Apple is one part of a broader content program. United and Spotify announced music, podcasts, audiobooks, and video content for more than 130,000 seatback screens in 2025: Spotify partnership announcement.
United later launched a dedicated Peacock inflight channel on May 1, 2026, with more than 1,600 hours announced for more than 160,000 seatback screens and personal devices through the United app: United’s Peacock announcement. United’s investor materials also continue to identify Apple TV among its premium entertainment partnerships, while emphasizing that the overall catalog keeps expanding.
How to prepare for a flight
- Check the United app and the flight’s entertainment preview before travel.
- Update the app while you still have reliable internet access.
- Download backup films or episodes from services you already subscribe to if uninterrupted viewing matters.
- Pack wired headphones even if you hope to use Bluetooth.
- Bring a charging cable and, where permitted, a suitable power bank.
These precautions matter most on short regional aircraft, flights with uncertain equipment, and trips where a particular show is the main reason you want inflight entertainment.
