Yes—but only with the right Roku host and speakers. Roku Wireless Speakers pair directly with a Roku TV for stereo sound, or with a Roku Streambar, Streambar Pro, Smart Soundbar, or supported Roku Wireless Soundbar as rear-surround speakers. A Roku Streaming Stick, standalone Roku player, non-Roku television, Streambar SE, or arbitrary Bluetooth speaker is not a compatible substitute. Roku’s wireless speakers still need power outlets; “wireless” refers to the audio link, not battery operation.

Check compatibility before you buy or pair

A Roku TV is not the same as a Roku player plugged into another television. The TV itself is the host for Roku wireless speakers. A Streaming Stick or other standalone player cannot host them.

Roku host device Compatible? What the speakers do
Roku TV system Yes Two speakers become left/right stereo; the TV’s internal speakers switch off
Roku Streambar Yes Rear surround channels
Roku Streambar Pro Yes Rear surround channels
Roku Smart Soundbar Yes Rear surround channels
Roku Wireless Soundbar Supported in documented Roku surround configurations Surround system
Roku Streambar SE No Cannot host Roku wireless speakers
Roku Streaming Stick or other standalone player No Not a compatible wireless-speaker host
Non-Roku television No, directly Use a compatible Roku soundbar as the host instead

See Roku’s compatibility guidance at Roku’s surround-sound system guide. Streambar and Streambar Pro are identified there as discontinued, although existing units remain documented as compatible.

What “wireless” means here

Roku wireless speakers use Roku’s host-device pairing system. They are not ordinary Bluetooth TV speakers. Supported Roku audio products can accept Bluetooth audio from a phone, tablet, or computer for music and podcasts, but that does not make any Bluetooth speaker a television speaker. Bluetooth or Spotify Connect playback can also take over another audio source on supported soundbars; see Roku’s audio-source switching guidance.

What you need before setup

  • A compatible pair of Roku wireless speakers and a compatible Roku TV or soundbar host.
  • The Roku remote.
  • An internet connection and Wi-Fi available to the host during discovery and pairing.
  • A power outlet for each speaker.
  • Placement that preserves left/right orientation (or the intended surround positions).

Roku says speakers can work up to approximately 30 feet from the host under good wireless-signal conditions. Walls, interference and router placement can shorten that distance. If a Roku TV is using Ethernet with Wi-Fi disabled, it may not discover the speakers; temporarily switch the TV to Wi-Fi for setup. Details are in Roku’s setup instructions.

How to connect Roku wireless speakers

  1. Place and power them. For a Roku TV, put one speaker to each side of the screen at similar height and distance from your seating position. For a soundbar system, put the pair slightly behind the seating position, one on each side. Connect both to power and wait for the spoken setup instructions; startup can take about a minute.
  2. Open pairing. Press and hold Home on the Roku remote for about five seconds, then choose Wireless speakers. If that shortcut is unavailable, use Settings → Remotes & devices → Set up a new device → Wireless speakers.
  3. Confirm each speaker. Roku pairs them one at a time and plays a test sound. Select the correct left, right or surround location shown on screen. Incorrect assignments reverse effects and stereo imaging.
  4. Allow updates to finish. Keep the host online and do not unplug anything. Roku may deliver a unique speaker update during pairing.
  5. Choose Fast TV Start if offered. On Roku TV, this optional setting permits audio with the screen off, voice-command wake-up and Bluetooth streaming without turning on the display. It can increase standby power use.
  6. Test every source. Try a streaming app, antenna or live TV where applicable, and an HDMI device such as a console. Check left/right balance, dialogue, lip-sync and volume from the Roku remote.

Roku documents audio from streaming apps, over-the-air television and connected devices with compatible hosts at its wireless-speaker audio troubleshooting page.

Placement, power and mounting

Roku TV stereo placement

Keep one speaker left and one right of the TV, facing the seating area. Similar height and distance produce a more stable stereo image. Do not cluster both speakers beside the screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Streambar or soundbar surround placement

Place the pair slightly behind the main seats, one on each side, with clear paths to the room. The soundbar remains the front-stage speaker; the wireless pair supplies rear channels.

Each unit needs a nearby outlet even though no audio cable runs to the TV. For stands, Roku specifies support for at least 4 pounds and a 1/4-inch-20 mounting thread: mounting guidance.

Using speakers with a Roku soundbar

When a Streambar, Streambar Pro, Smart Soundbar or supported Roku Wireless Soundbar is connected, pair the wireless speakers to that soundbar—not directly to the TV. The soundbar handles front audio and the pair becomes surround speakers. Roku supports up to four wireless speakers with a compatible Streambar or soundbar, while a Roku TV supports up to two as a stereo pair. Limits and combinations depend on the exact model; consult Roku’s system matrix.

A soundbar already connected creates an important restriction: Roku wireless speakers cannot be paired directly to that Roku TV. Streambar SE also blocks direct TV pairing and cannot host the speakers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can ordinary Bluetooth speakers replace Roku wireless speakers?

Generally, no. Roku’s television-speaker setup requires compatible Roku wireless speakers and a compatible host. A generic Bluetooth speaker works only when the television or audio device itself provides a compatible Bluetooth transmitter arrangement; having a Roku player does not add that function. Roku’s Bluetooth support is primarily for sending audio from supported phones, tablets and computers to compatible Roku audio products.

Troubleshooting by symptom

Roku cannot find the speakers

  1. Verify the host is a compatible Roku TV or soundbar.
  2. Power both speakers and check that their status indicators show pairing availability.
  3. Open Settings → Remotes & devices → Set up a new device → Wireless speakers.
  4. On a Roku TV, disconnect Ethernet temporarily and connect the TV to Wi-Fi.
  5. Restart the host, then press the restart/reset control on each speaker and repeat setup.

Setup instructions never begin

Wait after plugging in the speakers, make sure the host is on, use the settings path, and press the speaker’s pair button if repeating setup. To restart the Roku host, power it off, wait about 10 seconds and turn it on again. See Roku’s setup recovery steps.

Only one speaker plays

Confirm both are powered, neither status light is flashing, assignments are correct and the pair is within usable range. Reconnection can take a couple of minutes after the host starts. Reduce distance and obstructions if necessary.

The TV speakers are silent

That is normal when speakers are paired directly to a Roku TV: Roku automatically disables the built-in speakers. Sound from the wireless pair indicates the expected configuration.

Echo, delay, clicks or dropouts

Restart the host (off, wait about 10 seconds, on), then restart or reset the speakers if needed. Reduce distance and obstructions, check the router and repeat pairing if one speaker reconnects late. Roku’s troubleshooting guide covers echo, audio/video sync, left/right sync, clicks, pops, intermittent dropouts and volume differences: audio troubleshooting.

Advanced Wi-Fi interference check

If your router only supports 2.4 GHz, Roku recommends channels 1, 6 or 11 in North America. This is a network-specific recommendation, not a guaranteed fix.

The speakers are on the wrong side

Repeat setup and select the correct location. If they cannot be moved or reassigned, use the model-specific factory-reset instructions, then pair again. A restart is only a reboot; a factory reset clears pairing and configuration. Roku’s recovery guidance is at speaker pairing support.

A third-party Roku TV Ready soundbar is connected

Roku wireless speakers cannot become surrounds for a third-party Roku TV Ready soundbar. If they are paired to the TV, remove them through Home → Settings → Remotes & devices → Audio devices & Speakers → About → Forget device, then connect the third-party soundbar through HDMI ARC or eARC. Roku explains the limitation at its Roku TV Ready soundbar guide.

When Roku wireless speakers are the wrong choice

  • You have only a Streaming Stick or standalone Roku player.
  • You use a non-Roku TV and do not want a compatible Roku soundbar host.
  • You need generic cross-brand Bluetooth compatibility.
  • You cannot provide power near the speaker positions.
  • You want a conventional receiver and wired speakers, or a manufacturer-specific wireless surround system with broader upgrade options.

Roku’s ecosystem is convenient—remote control, on-screen pairing and automatic host integration—but that convenience trades away cross-brand flexibility. A Roku TV pair is stereo, not a full multichannel cinema system; rear surround operation requires a compatible soundbar host.

Frequently asked questions
