That listing does not establish that the film is included in a normal YouTube Premium subscription at no extra charge. Check the live title page while signed into your U.S. Google account before paying or assuming access.
What the current U.S. listing actually says
The latest cited U.S. availability listing identifies Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 sequel (164 minutes) as a transactional title on YouTube and Google Play Movies/Google TV. It also lists Apple TV, Amazon Video, Plex, Fandango at Home and Spectrum On Demand as rent-or-buy outlets. The same listing reports no current U.S. subscription-streaming option at the time checked: Movipick availability listing.

Streaming licenses change, so treat that information as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent catalog promise. Availability can also differ by country, billing address, Google account region, device, app version and the particular movie edition.
Does YouTube Premium include the movie?
Do not equate “on YouTube” with “included with YouTube Premium.” Premium generally covers benefits such as ad-free ordinary YouTube videos, background playback and offline viewing; individually licensed movies can still require a separate transaction. A title page may therefore appear in the YouTube app while showing a rental or purchase charge.
#1 Best Overall
We could not independently verify that Blade Runner 2049 is included in the U.S. Premium subscription price. An unverified report claimed the film moved behind a Premium paywall in January 2026, but that claim conflicts with the more specific rent-or-buy listing and should not be treated as confirmation: the reported Premium-paywall claim.
How to check your exact YouTube option
- Open YouTube while signed into the Google account and country setting you intend to use.
- Search for the exact title, Blade Runner 2049, and choose the official movie result—not a trailer, clip, fan upload or commentary video.
- Read the action label. The meaningful possibilities are Watch free or Free with ads, Included with Premium, Rent or Buy.
- Check the listed resolution, HDR information, audio options and subtitles before proceeding.
- Review the final checkout screen. A Premium membership does not by itself waive a rental or purchase charge.
- If the title is absent, check Google TV or another current retailer listing.
Do not infer the business model from a generic “Watch” button. YouTube’s labels and layout can change, and search results may mix the 2017 sequel with the original Blade Runner.
Could it be free with ads?
Viewers have reported that Blade Runner or, in some cases, Blade Runner 2049 appeared in YouTube’s free-with-ads catalog. Those reports are anecdotal and do not prove current U.S. availability for the sequel: community report of free-with-ads availability. Only an explicit “Watch free” or “Free with ads” label on your current title page confirms that option.

Current U.S. alternatives

|---|---|---|
| YouTube / Google TV | Rent or buy | Transaction type, resolution and account library access |
| Apple TV | Rent or buy | 4K/HDR and Apple-device compatibility |
| Amazon Video | Rent or buy | Whether the offer is transactional rather than included with Prime |
| Plex | Listed as an outlet | Whether the current listing is free with ads or transactional |

| Spectrum On Demand | Listed as an outlet | Eligibility and regional availability |

Rent, buy or subscribe?
| Your situation | Most sensible first check | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One-time viewing | Rent, if the live listing offers it | Rental viewing and expiration rules apply |
| Repeat viewing | Compare purchase prices across storefronts | Digital access is account-based, not physical ownership |
| You already have Premium | Check for an explicit “Included with Premium” label | You may still owe a separate transaction fee |
| You want ad-free YouTube generally | Consider Premium for its broader benefits | It is not a movie-specific pass unless the title page says so |
| Home-theater priority | Compare verified 4K digital editions with a 4K UHD disc | Disc playback needs compatible hardware; digital formats vary by title and device |
4K, HDR and playback warnings
A 4K-capable television or streaming box does not guarantee 4K playback. Before checkout, confirm that the specific Blade Runner 2049 listing says 4K UHD and identifies HDR or enhanced audio where applicable. Also confirm that your device and app support that format and that you are buying the intended edition through the intended retailer.
Rank #3
Community threads describe cases in which Google/YouTube movie buyers saw HD playback on 4K-capable devices, as well as uncertainty about upgrading older HD purchases when a UHD version later appeared. These are user reports, not official policy guarantees: 4K playback complaint and HD-to-UHD upgrade discussion.

Premium asks you to pay
That can be normal. Premium does not necessarily include individually licensed movie rentals or purchases; verify the title’s transaction label rather than treating the paywall as an account error.

Open the official movie storefront page. Search can surface trailers, user uploads, international pages, expired listings or the original film instead of the 2017 sequel.

- Confirm the Google account email used at checkout.
- Check both YouTube and Google TV libraries.
- Review Google Payments transaction history and locate the receipt.
- Check for a regional-account mismatch or delayed synchronization.
- Contact Google or YouTube support with the transaction ID.
A community report describes Blade Runner 2049 disappearing from a YouTube library while remaining accessible through Google Play; this is an account-access report, not a statement of current policy: reported library-access issue.
You paid for 4K but only see HD
Check the title’s quality menu, device certification and app version, then retain your receipt and transaction ID. Do not assume an older HD purchase automatically converts to UHD or that every playback device receives the highest advertised format.
What this means for YouTube Premium value
If your sole purpose is watching this film, buying Premium is a poor assumption: a separate rental or purchase may still be required, creating an ongoing subscription cost plus the movie transaction. Premium is easier to justify when you also want ad-free everyday YouTube, background playback, offline viewing or YouTube Music benefits available in your market. See the current plan details at YouTube Premium.
Bottom line for U.S. viewers
Blade Runner 2049 was listed for rent or purchase through YouTube in the August 16–18, 2026 U.S. snapshot, not confirmed as part of YouTube Premium’s subscription catalog. Open the live official title page, look specifically for “Included with Premium” or “Free with ads,” and otherwise compare the displayed rental or purchase offers. Readers outside the United States may see different licensing and account options.
