What Netflix announced
An adaptation of Capcom’s game franchise
The series is based on Capcom’s Devil May Cry video-game franchise. Capcom supplies the underlying intellectual property and game-world connection; Netflix is the streaming home; and Adi Shankar leads the television adaptation as creator and showrunner.
Studio Mir is animating the series
Netflix credited Korean animation studio Studio Mir, whose work includes The Legend of Korra and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Studio Mir is the animation partner, not the game developer or publisher.

The original release window was April 2025
The teaser’s original description promised a Netflix premiere in April 2025, without specifying a day. Netflix later confirmed the precise date as April 3, 2025.
What the teaser does—and does not—confirm
- It formally presented Netflix’s animated Devil May Cry project and centered its marketing on Dante.
- It confirmed the Capcom connection, Adi Shankar’s leadership, Studio Mir’s animation role, and the April 2025 window.
- It did not establish a scene-for-scene adaptation of a particular game.
- It did not settle whether the show shares game continuity or reveal the complete roles of characters such as Vergil, Lady, or Mundus.
- Later story revelations, cast announcements, and footage from the March 2025 full trailer should not be attributed to this September 2024 teaser.
Netflix and official materials commonly describe the project as an animated series. “Anime” is a familiar shorthand, but “animated series” is the more precise official description.

Premise of the Netflix series
Netflix’s later synopsis describes Dante as an orphaned demon hunter for hire caught between the human and demon realms, unaware that the fate of both worlds rests on him. That synopsis explains the show’s setup; the short 2024 teaser was not intended to provide the entire plot.
Cast and creative team
Known at the teaser’s launch
The September 19 upload identified the project’s principal partners but did not provide a complete voice cast list. It is therefore inaccurate to present every later cast credit as part of the original teaser announcement.

Current status
Devil May Cry is no longer an upcoming project: Season 1 premiered on April 3, 2025, Season 2 is available, and Netflix has announced Season 3 as the final season. The September 2024 teaser remains important as the announcement that set the series’ public April 2025 window and introduced its Capcom, Adi Shankar, and Studio Mir partnership.

The Bottom Line
The September 19, 2024 video was Netflix’s first officially labeled teaser for its animated Devil May Cry adaptation—not the later full trailer. It established Dante, the Capcom-based project, Adi Shankar and Studio Mir’s involvement, and an April 2025 window that ultimately led to the April 3, 2025 premiere.
