In the U.S., Disney+ offers The Muppet Christmas Carol (Full Length Version), but it is hidden under the film’s Extras section rather than launched by the main Play button. Disney added it on December 9, 2022, for the movie’s 30th anniversary. The restoration adds Belle’s deleted song “When Love Is Gone”—not a wholesale director’s cut.
Find the full-length version on Disney+
Use this path in the Disney+ app or website:
- Search for The Muppet Christmas Carol.
- Open the 1992 film’s title page.
- Scroll to Extras.
- Select The Muppet Christmas Carol (Full Length Version).
- Start that entry instead of pressing the main Play button.
The main button may open the shorter, theatrical-style listing. Disney announced the full-length edition as an Extras item, and launch-period viewing guides documented the same placement. See Disney’s announcement at Disney+ Press.
Disney+ layouts and labels can differ by device, profile, app version and country. The strongest current availability evidence is for the U.S. catalog: Disney’s U.S. title page is live, and JustWatch listed the film on Disney+ after checking U.S. services on August 1, 2026.
What the full-length edition restores
“When Love Is Gone”
The added sequence is “When Love Is Gone,” sung by Belle during the Ghost of Christmas Past section. Belle explains that Scrooge’s devotion to money has displaced his love for her. That context makes his emotional collapse and eventual redemption easier to follow, and it gives the later “The Love We Found” reprise a clearer dramatic connection.

D23 identifies the number as the famous deleted song restored for the 30th-anniversary presentation. The surviving film material was recovered and prepared for Disney’s restored version. Read the production background at D23’s music history and its account of the recovered footage.
How much longer is it?
| Listing | Displayed length | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Disney+ film listing | About 1 hour 27 minutes in the current U.S. listing | The shorter theatrical-style version |
| Full Length Version | About 89 minutes in launch-period coverage | The film with “When Love Is Gone” restored |
Runtimes can vary by region, credits and platform timing conventions, so a two-minute difference is not proof of a different restoration. Gizmodo’s viewing guide reports the approximately 89-minute listing: Gizmodo.
Why was the song removed?
Director Brian Henson has said that Disney executives considered the song too slow or emotionally heavy for younger viewers after test screenings. D23’s account identifies Jeffrey Katzenberg as the executive who ordered the theatrical cut. That is an attributed production history, not evidence that children literally could not understand the scene.

The omission was not permanent across all releases. Some VHS, DVD and television versions included the song, which is why many viewers remember it from earlier home viewing.

“Extended edition” is a useful shorthand, but Disney’s more precise term is full-length version. The principal change is the reinsertion of one filmed sequence; it is not a substantially expanded director’s cut.
D23 also lists “Chairman of the Board” and “Room in Your Heart” among songs deleted from the project. Those were recorded as songs rather than completed filmed scenes ready to place back into the feature, and they are not part of the Disney+ full-length movie. See D23’s deleted-song overview.

If the Extras option is missing
- You pressed Play on the title page: return to the film page and choose the full-length entry under Extras.
- Searching “extended edition” finds nothing: search for the main film title, then inspect its Extras section.
- Extras are not visible: scroll below the main details, update the Disney+ app, open the title from Disney+ search rather than a third-party link, and try another supported device.
- Your country shows different items: catalog and Extras availability are regional. Current confirmation is U.S.-specific; user reports from other countries have described cases where a song clip appeared without the full-length listing.
- You see a standalone “When Love Is Gone” clip: that may be a bonus feature rather than the complete full-length film.
Which version should you watch?
Choose the full-length version if you want
- The most complete version currently verified for U.S. streaming.
- The Belle sequence remembered from older home-video releases.
- More emotional explanation for Scrooge’s relationship and redemption.
- An archival or completionist viewing.
Choose the standard listing if you want
- The shorter theatrical-style pace for very young viewers.
- The version you already know and prefer.
- To avoid searching for Extras when your regional app does not expose the full-length entry.
Alternatives if Disney+ is unavailable
JustWatch’s U.S. listing checked on August 1, 2026, also reported rental or purchase options through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango At Home: JustWatch. Edition contents can differ, so verify that a digital purchase or physical release specifically includes “When Love Is Gone” before buying.

The Bottom Line
For U.S. viewers, the easiest verified streaming route to “When Love Is Gone” is Disney+: search for The Muppet Christmas Carol, open Extras, and select The Muppet Christmas Carol (Full Length Version). It is a restored, slightly longer presentation—not an entirely new director’s cut—and availability can vary outside the U.S.
