Answers for Friday, March 13, 2026
| Group | Words | Why they fit |
|---|---|---|
| NO THANKS | LATER, NAH, NEXT TIME, PASS | Each is a casual way to decline an offer or defer it. |
| KINDS OF NUMBERS | EVEN, IRRATIONAL, PERFECT, PRIME | These are mathematical classifications of numbers. |
| KINDS OF WALLS | BERLIN, BRICK, FOURTH, GREAT | They form familiar terms: Berlin Wall, brick wall, fourth wall and Great Wall. |
| HOMOPHONES OF NON-NUMERIC AMOUNTS | AWL, NUN, PHEW, SUM | They sound like “all,” “none,” “few” and “some.” |
Why the grid is tricky
Look beyond literal meanings
The blue group depends on compounds containing “wall,” while the purple group is based on pronunciation rather than spelling. AWL, NUN, PHEW and SUM do not describe quantities themselves; their sound-alikes do.
Check the exact four-word fit
Connections uses sixteen entries divided into four groups of four and permits up to four mistakes. When a possible category appears, test whether it leaves exactly four words for each remaining group. Semantic meaning, familiar phrases, grammar and sound-alike relationships can all be relevant, so an apparently obvious word may be a decoy.
