How to Watch the ‘Call the Midwife’ 2024 Christmas Special, Part 2 Online and on TV

Historical viewing guide: the second installment was a separate UK broadcast, while PBS packaged both installments as one two-hour U.S. presentation. Australia received both episodes later on BritBox; a Canadian launch date was not confirmed in contemporary coverage. The original event has passed, so use the regional details below as a record of where it was scheduled and check each service’s current catalogue before watching.

Original broadcast and streaming schedule

Region Original date Time Presentation
UK Thursday, December 26, 2024 7:30 p.m. GMT Part 2 separately on BBC One and BBC iPlayer (Tom’s Guide; Radio Times)
United States Wednesday, December 25, 2024 8 p.m. Eastern PBS combined both parts into one 120-minute special, with listings on PBS.org and the PBS App (Tom’s Guide; PBS schedule overview)
Canada No confirmed date in the contemporary guide Not stated BritBox was identified as the relevant service, but the arrival date was unconfirmed (Tom’s Guide)
Australia Thursday, January 9, 2025 Not stated Both festive episodes scheduled together on BritBox Australia (Tom’s Guide)

These are historical schedules, not upcoming listings. Availability in 2026 may have changed because broadcaster and streaming rights expire or move.

Why “Part 2” can be hard to find in the United States

The UK schedule divided the Christmas story across two broadcasts. PBS used a different editorial package: American viewers were shown the complete story as one two-hour Christmas special. Consequently, a PBS search for a standalone episode called “Part 2” may return nothing.

How UK viewers watched it

BBC One

Part 2 occupied the Boxing Day BBC One slot shown in the table. Local listings can show repeats differently from the national premiere.

#1 Best Overall

BBC iPlayer

The online destination was BBC iPlayer. Search by the complete programme title, not only “Part 2,” and check the programme page for an active stream. A 2024 broadcast is not guaranteed to remain in the current catalogue, and access is governed by BBC availability and geographic rules.

How U.S. viewers watched it

PBS broadcast

The national premiere used the combined two-hour format shown above. Station schedules and later rebroadcasts may differ, so consult your local PBS listing for a repeat.

PBS.org and the PBS App

Search for the complete 2024 Christmas Special on PBS.org or in the PBS App. Whether a stream appears can depend on your local station, account status and PBS’s current catalogue rights.

Canada, Australia and other territories

Canada

Contemporary coverage identified BritBox as the relevant Canadian home but did not confirm a release date. Check the Canadian BritBox catalogue directly before assuming that either installment is available.

Australia

BritBox Australia was scheduled to add both festive episodes together on January 9, 2025. The Australian catalogue is separate from BritBox services in other countries, so a subscription elsewhere does not establish Australian availability.

Everywhere else

Rights vary by territory. Check your national broadcaster, the official BritBox catalogue, or another licensed local service. Do not infer availability from the UK, U.S. or Australian schedules.

What happens in Part 2?

The BBC’s spoiler-light description places Shelagh with a family facing severe poverty, Rosalind dealing with an escaped convict and Nancy confronting the possibility of a romance. The wider 1969 Christmas story features a funfair, a carol concert, influenza and fears about an escaped prisoner. This gives you the correct installment without a full recap.

Cast featured in the special

  • Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne
  • Laura Main as Shelagh Turner
  • Helen George as Trixie Aylward
  • Stephen McGann as Dr Turner
  • Linda Bassett as Nurse Crane
  • Megan Cusack as Nancy Corrigan
  • Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle
  • Rebecca Gethings as Sister Veronica
  • Renee Bailey as Joyce Highland
  • Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson
  • Judy Parfitt, Cliff Parisi, Georgie Glen and Zephryn Taitte also appear in the listed cast

If the episode does not appear

PBS shows no “Part 2”

Use the combined-special title and search PBS.org, the PBS App and your station’s schedule. The missing separate label is a consequence of PBS’s two-hour packaging.

BBC iPlayer no longer lists it

Try the full programme title and the BBC programme page. If the episode has left iPlayer, look for a licensed service in your country rather than assuming a permanent archive.

Canada has no date

Check the Canadian BritBox catalogue and its programme announcements. Do not treat an unconfirmed date as evidence that the special launched.

You are travelling abroad

Start with the legal service for your current country. A VPN does not guarantee access, may require an account or local eligibility, and must be used consistently with the relevant platform’s terms.

The Bottom Line

For the original arrangement, UK viewers used BBC One or BBC iPlayer for the separately scheduled second part; U.S. viewers searched PBS for the complete two-hour special. Australia’s reported BritBox date was January 9, 2025, while Canada had no confirmed date in the contemporary guide. Because these are past schedules, verify the live catalogue before subscribing or planning a viewing.
