Paramount’s official customer guidance says BET+ is closing to new customers while existing subscribers can continue accessing it for the time being. The company says it will contact those subscribers with information about the closure, subscription treatment and possible refunds. Paramount’s BET+ help page does not promise one automatic migration process for every account.
What is actually being shut down?
The affected product is the standalone BET+ service: its separate app, subscription relationship and direct billing proposition. This is a platform consolidation, not an announcement that BET programming, BET Studios or the BET entertainment brand has ended.
Paramount’s description of Paramount+ continues to list BET among the brands represented on the service. Paramount’s streaming-business page also continues to identify BET+ within its portfolio during the transition.

Paramount+ itself remains an active subscription service. Reports that Paramount is “killing Paramount+” misstate the change: Paramount is folding one niche service into its larger platform.
When did the change happen?
The announcement was reported on March 13, 2026. Coverage at the time described a June migration, while Paramount corporate materials referred to full integration in early summer 2026. As of August 18, 2026, “just announced” is outdated headline language rather than a description of a new announcement.
Paramount’s filing says the content transition was already underway before full integration. It does not establish one universal consumer-facing completion date for every country, device or billing arrangement. See the company’s filing at ir.paramount.com/node/72956/html.

What BET+ subscribers should do
1. Identify who bills you
Look at your receipt or account page and determine whether the subscription is billed directly by BET+ or through Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon, a cable provider or another channel marketplace. A third-party seller may have its own cancellation and refund rules.

2. Read the account email
Keep the email address associated with BET+ current and watch for Paramount’s closure instructions. The official notice says additional information will be sent to existing subscribers; it does not say every account will automatically become a Paramount+ account.
3. Check Paramount+ before canceling BET+
Sign in to any Paramount+ account you already have, or review the official signup page at paramountplus.com. Search for the specific BET series or film you watch and confirm that it is playable in your country and included in the plan shown.

4. Compare renewal dates
Do not assume a BET+ charge has stopped merely because a title appears on Paramount+. Check both services’ billing screens and save receipts or screenshots. Canceling too early could remove access before the replacement is available; leaving both active could create duplicate charges.
5. Treat refunds as account-specific
Paramount has mentioned possible refunds, but it has not published one universal refund promise. Eligibility and timing may depend on the billing platform, territory, payment term and date of closure.

Paramount says Paramount+ will become the new streaming home for the majority of BET+ programming. Reporting has described a BET Hub inside Paramount+, but that label should be treated as reported terminology unless the current Paramount+ interface displays it in your market.

“Majority” matters. During and after the migration, individual titles may differ because of:
- expiring or geographically limited licensing rights;
- technical migration schedules;
- different arrival dates for seasons, specials and episodes;
- country-specific catalogs; and
- Paramount+ plan requirements.
A title can also remain visible in search while requiring a tier different from the one you have. Verify the actual play button and plan notice instead of relying on a catalog list.

The defensible explanation is platform consolidation and operating efficiency. Moving BET+ content into Paramount+ gives Paramount one principal subscription platform on which to market the programming and operate technology, billing, marketing and support, rather than maintaining a separate niche product.

Paramount’s filings discuss the BET+ transition as part of broader direct-to-consumer consolidation. They do not, in the cited materials, quantify a specific cost saving, subscriber target or profitability result for this shutdown. Relevant company materials include Paramount’s 2026 filing materials and its SEC-filed exhibit.
How this differs from the SHOWTIME shutdown
This is not the same event as the standalone SHOWTIME streaming shutdown. Paramount ended that service on April 30, 2024, moving SHOWTIME programming to the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan. The official notices are available from SHOWTIME’s shutdown guidance and transition FAQ.
The precedent is useful: Paramount has previously retired a separate app while retaining the underlying programming and brand within Paramount+. But the BET+ transition has its own dates, catalog qualifications and subscriber instructions.
What remains unresolved
- The final shutdown date for every market and platform.
- Whether a particular subscriber will be migrated automatically, asked to create an account or simply lose access when the standalone service closes.
- Refund mechanics for each direct or third-party billing method.
- The complete list of BET+ titles and the timing of each move.
- Which Paramount+ tier includes each migrated title.
- Whether the BET+ name will remain visible as a collection after the standalone product disappears.
Choosing a replacement subscription
If you watched BET+ regularly, Paramount+ is the logical first service to check because it is the documented destination for most of the catalog. Confirm the shows you care about before subscribing, especially if you only watched one or two titles or already receive Paramount+ through a bundle.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: BET+ is being retired as a standalone streaming destination. Paramount+ is the intended home for most of its programming, but subscribers should verify their title access, plan, billing source and refund status rather than assume an automatic transfer.
