In the United States, the 2025 film I Know What You Did Last Summer is currently streaming on Netflix with a qualifying Netflix subscription. You can also rent or buy it digitally through services such as Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango at Home. The 1997 movie and 2021 television series are separate titles.
Where to watch I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

It is a new franchise entry, or legacy sequel, starring Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Hewitt and Prinze Jr. reprise their franchise roles.
For U.S. viewers, the latest listings show the film on Netflix. Use the official Netflix title page, or search Netflix for the full title and confirm that the result is labeled 2025.
Netflix availability is country- and catalog-specific, so a listing that works in the United States may not appear in another country.
#1 Best Overall
- When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they?re forced to confront the truth: someone knows what they did last summer?and is hell-bent on revenge. As they are stalked by a killer, they turn to survivors of the legendary 1997 Southport Massacre for help.
Is the movie included with Netflix?
Yes. If the film is available in your account’s catalog, it is included through an eligible Netflix subscription; Netflix does not present it as a separate movie-by-movie charge. You do not need a Netflix add-on or a second purchase inside Netflix.
Netflix plan names, prices, advertising options, simultaneous-stream limits and download rules can change. Check the live Netflix signup page or your account page for current terms rather than relying on an older price.

If it does not appear in your account
- Search the full title and add “2025.”
- Try the official title page in a browser while signed in, then check the Netflix app.
- Use a profile with appropriate maturity settings; child restrictions can hide the title.
- Confirm that your account country is the United States and that the catalog has not changed.
- If it is still unavailable, use the Sony listing or a current availability guide to find a rental or purchase.
Rent or buy it without Netflix
The U.S. JustWatch listing identifies Amazon Video, Apple TV Store and Fandango at Home as digital rental or purchase sources. Sony’s official Get It Now page also lists Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, DIRECTV, YouTube, Sony Pictures Core, Kaleidescape and other digital retailers, plus physical-media retailers.
| Option | What you receive | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix subscription stream | On-demand viewing while the title is in your Netflix catalog | Subscribers who want to watch without a separate transaction |
| Digital rental | Temporary access under the retailer’s viewing window | A one-time viewing without starting Netflix |
| Digital purchase | Account-based access subject to the retailer’s service and licensing terms | Repeat viewing through a preferred retailer |
| 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray or DVD | A physical disc, where available, with no streaming subscription required | Collectors, offline viewing and households with a compatible player |
Before checkout, confirm that the listing is for the 2025 film, and check rental versus purchase, subtitles, audio formats, UHD availability, supported devices and download rules. Prices and availability change, so no older rental or purchase price should be treated as current.

- Last summer, four friends made a desperate pact to conceal a shocking secret. But now, someone has apparently learned the truth.
Is there a free legal way to watch it?
At the latest U.S. update, JustWatch reported no free streaming option for the 2025 film. A trial, promotion, library program or ad-supported listing could vary by date, user and region, but none should be assumed without checking its conditions. Unofficial “free movie” sites are not a legal substitute.
Is it still in theaters?
The film opened in U.S. theaters on July 18, 2025. A current aggregator may still show isolated or residual theater listings, but that does not establish a nationwide run. Check a live ticketing search for your ZIP code if you specifically want a cinema screening.

Which title are you looking for?
Search results can combine several similarly named productions. Use the year and format to avoid opening the wrong one.
| Title | Format | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) | Film | A separate original movie; Sony lists digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD options. |
| I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) | Film | A separate sequel; check current retailer listings. |
| I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) | Film | A separate franchise title. |
| I Know What You Did Last Summer (2021) | Television series | A different Amazon Prime Video series based on Lois Duncan’s novel. |
| I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) | Film | The movie currently listed on Netflix in the U.S., with digital rental and purchase options. |
The 1997 film’s Sony page identifies its cast as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe and Johnny Galecki. Its availability is not automatically the same as the 2025 film’s Netflix listing. The 2021 series page confirms that it is a separate television production streaming on Prime Video.
Best Value
Do you need to watch the original first?
No mandatory viewing order has been established. A first-time viewer can watch the 2025 film on its own, while the 1997 movie can add context for returning characters and franchise references without being a prerequisite.
Suggested film order for franchise viewers
- I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
- I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
- I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006), optional
- I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
Treat the 2021 series as a separate adaptation rather than a required chapter in that film sequence.
What is confirmed about the “Netflix deal”?
What is confirmed is the present-day result: Netflix’s title page identifies the 2025 release, and Netflix Tudum says to stream it now in its release and cast article. Sony continues to list digital and physical ways to watch the film.
Those listings do not establish the contract’s value, exclusivity period, worldwide rights, regional windows or any other private Sony–Netflix terms. Netflix availability should therefore be described as the current U.S. subscription-streaming destination, not as proof that Netflix owns the film or has an exclusive worldwide deal.
