A Minecraft Movie became available for digital rental and purchase in the United States on May 13, 2025. That date was the film’s transactional home-release date—not a guarantee of no-cost subscription streaming. As of the latest U.S. availability check on August 18, 2026, viewers can rent or buy it through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Fandango at Home, and Google TV/Google Play; it is also listed on Max’s subscription catalog. Subscription and retailer catalogs can change, so verify the title in the relevant app before paying.
This guide covers the major legal U.S. options, current price information, physical editions, bonus content, and the practical difference between renting, buying, and using a subscription.

What actually happened on May 13, 2025?
The official Minecraft announcement described May 13, 2025 as the date to rent or buy A Minecraft Movie on digital platforms. In industry terms, this was a digital or premium-video-on-demand release. It did not mean that everyone could watch the film free with an existing streaming subscription.
#1 Best Overall
- Digital Copy
- Bonus Content
- Blu-ray HD
“Stream” is used loosely in search results. For this movie it can mean three different things:
- Subscription streaming: The title is included in a service such as Max while your subscription is active.
- Digital rental: You pay for temporary access. The retailer’s initial availability period and the shorter period after playback starts vary by service, so read the checkout terms.
- Digital purchase: The movie is added to a retailer-linked library for later viewing, subject to that company’s account, app, licensing, and regional rules.
Watch with a subscription
JustWatch’s U.S. listing currently reports A Minecraft Movie on Max. That is the only subscription-streaming availability established by the current U.S. snapshot. Open the Max app or Max’s website and search for the title before subscribing or planning a viewing, since a film can leave a catalog while remaining available for rental or purchase elsewhere.
Max is most practical if you already subscribe or expect to watch several other titles. If you want only this movie, compare the cost of a new subscription with a single rental.
Rent or buy the digital version
Amazon Video
Amazon’s title page supports the familiar rent-or-buy model in the U.S. The movie may appear within Prime Video, but that placement does not by itself make it free for Prime members. Look for an explicit included-with-subscription label rather than assuming Prime access covers the title.

Apple TV Store
The Apple TV listing provides rental and purchase access on supported devices. A purchase stays associated with the Apple account and Apple’s playback ecosystem; it is not a transferable, unrestricted video file.

Fandango at Home
Fandango at Home, the service formerly known as Vudu, is another U.S. rental and purchase storefront. It can suit households that already keep their digital collection there, provided their television, streaming player, or mobile device supports the service.
Google TV and Google Play
Google’s U.S. listing showed the film in 4K at $3.99 to rent and $14.99 to buy when checked August 18, 2026. These are a retailer-specific snapshot, not a universal price. Taxes, promotions, resolution, account region, and later price changes can alter the amount you see. Confirm the rental duration, resolution, subtitles, dubbing, and extras at checkout.
How to choose: rent, buy, Max, or disc
| Choose | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Rent digitally | A one-time family movie night or the lowest one-off payment. | Access expires under the retailer’s viewing-window rules. |
| Buy digitally | Children and fans likely to rewatch the film. | The purchase is a license tied to the retailer account and may not transfer between competing stores. |
| Watch on Max | Existing subscribers or viewers planning to watch multiple Max titles. | Requires an active subscription, and catalog availability can change by country or over time. |
| Buy a disc | Collectors, gifts, offline viewing, or homes with unreliable broadband. | Requires compatible hardware, storage space, and a higher upfront purchase. |
Physical editions: 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and SteelBook
The official movie home-release page advertises 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and a limited-edition SteelBook. Physical media avoids dependence on a streaming catalog and can be useful for families with inconsistent internet, collectors, or people buying a gift. Check the exact product listing for disc count, region compatibility, audio and subtitle options, and bonus features. Do not assume a disc automatically includes a digital code.
What comes with the digital release?
The official Minecraft digital-release announcement says the home release includes behind-the-scenes footage. That does not establish that every retailer supplies identical extras, or that every edition presents them in the same menu. Inspect the specific storefront listing before purchasing if bonus material matters to you.
Is there a free legal way to watch it?
The checked U.S. JustWatch listing reported no free streaming option while showing Max and paid digital services. A Max subscription you already pay for may provide access without a separate rental charge, but that is subscription access—not a genuinely free stream. Be wary of pages promising a free full-movie stream or asking you to install an unknown player; use the official retailer and service links above instead.

Runtime, rating, and family planning
Google’s U.S. listing identifies the film as a 2025 PG movie running 100 minutes. Apple’s listing gives approximately 1 hour 41 minutes. Treat it as about 100 minutes; retailer metadata differs slightly. Parents should review the PG rating and the description shown by their chosen service before a younger child watches.

The services, prices, and Max listing in this guide are U.S.-specific. Digital rights, release dates, currencies, taxes, subtitles, dubbing, physical editions, and subscription catalogs can differ in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and elsewhere. Search your local version of the official storefront rather than relying on a U.S. listing or a VPN to bypass regional licensing.
