Brooke Shields said she dropped her dress during a scene in Netflix’s 2024 romantic comedy Mother of the Bride so Benjamin Bratt would not feel alone while filming his vulnerable, partially nude setup. Bratt wore a production modesty sock, while Shields used adhesive covers before briefly exposing herself when he turned around.
What happened on the set?
Shields recounted the moment during a May 2024 appearance on The View. The scene required the performers to film their sides separately, leaving Bratt feeling exposed while the camera was positioned for his part.
According to Shields, she taped her breasts with adhesive covers and waited until Bratt turned around. She then dropped her dress as a surprise, intending to show that he was not the only performer dealing with the awkwardness and vulnerability of the setup.
Why did Brooke Shields drop her dress?
Shields said her decision was an act of empathy rather than a scripted requirement. “He was vulnerable, it was very sweet,” she said. Her goal was to make Bratt feel less alone during a scene in which the camera arrangement made him appear to be the only exposed performer.

She described the gesture this way: “As a surprise to him, I taped my boobs with those sticky tape things and right as he turned around I dropped my dress … just so that he didn’t feel like he was the only one.”
What did Benjamin Bratt wear?
Bratt wore a production “modesty sock” while filming his side of the scene. Such a garment is used on sets to provide coverage during scenes that require an actor to appear nude or partly nude without requiring full exposure during production.
How did Bratt react?
Shields said Bratt thanked her afterward. Recalling his response, she said: “He came to me after and was like, ‘I cannot thank you [enough].’”
