Google TV’s NFL Sunday Ticket integration is a way to discover and reach games, not a free ticket to watch them. Announced on August 23, 2023, for the U.S. market, it put out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, highlights and featured-game recommendations on Google TV surfaces. Watching those games still requires an eligible Sunday Ticket subscription, and the package does not include every NFL broadcast.
What Google announced in 2023
Google said Sunday Ticket content would appear on Google TV starting with the 2023 football season. On supported U.S. devices, viewers could find live out-of-market Sunday afternoon games, highlights and recommendations for featured games on the home screen. YouTube TV subscribers who also had Sunday Ticket could find games in the Google TV Live tab’s channel guide. Google’s announcement described a discovery and navigation integration—not a new subscription or a change to Sunday Ticket’s coverage.
The timing aligned with Sunday Ticket’s first season on YouTube and YouTube TV. Google TV already brought live-TV sources and built-in channels together, so surfacing games on the television home screen gave subscribers another route to them without first opening an app or searching manually. That convenience is most relevant to people already using Google TV and YouTube TV; it does not make the package a cheaper way to watch football.
Google TV, YouTube TV, YouTube and Sunday Ticket are different things
| Product | What it is | What it means for NFL viewing |
|---|---|---|
| Google TV | A television interface and content-discovery layer on compatible TVs and streaming devices. | Can surface games and recommendations; it is not itself the Sunday Ticket subscription. |
| YouTube TV | A paid live-TV streaming service. | Can carry local and national channels, with Sunday Ticket available as a separate add-on. |
| YouTube | Google’s video platform, which offers paid subscriptions through Primetime Channels. | Sunday Ticket can be purchased here as a standalone option, without a YouTube TV base plan. |
| NFL Sunday Ticket | A paid package for qualifying out-of-market Sunday afternoon regular-season games. | Provides games that may not be available on local broadcasts; it is not an all-games NFL package. |
Google TV does not include Sunday Ticket at no cost, replace YouTube or YouTube TV, or turn a compatible television into a complete NFL service. You still need to buy an eligible Sunday Ticket plan through YouTube or YouTube TV to watch the package’s out-of-market games.

Which NFL games Sunday Ticket covers
YouTube describes Sunday Ticket as access to out-of-market regular-season Sunday afternoon games carried on CBS and FOX. “Out of market” means the game is outside the local broadcast area where you are watching. For example, a Dallas Cowboys fan in Miami may be able to watch a Cowboys Sunday afternoon game that Miami stations are not showing. If that game is being carried locally where the viewer is, Sunday Ticket may not be the way to watch it. See YouTube’s Sunday Ticket coverage details.
Sunday Ticket does not automatically provide every NFL game. Local broadcasts, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, preseason games and postseason games are outside its core out-of-market Sunday afternoon coverage. The channels or services carrying those broadcasts are separate considerations; Thursday Night Football, for example, is not included in YouTube TV’s NFL coverage. YouTube TV’s NFL coverage information explains its channel and game availability.

Where to find a game on Google TV or YouTube TV
On the Google TV home screen or Live tab
The 2023 announcement described games, highlights and recommendations on the Google TV home screen, with Live-tab guide access for YouTube TV subscribers who had Sunday Ticket. Current YouTube TV guidance also says NFL games can appear on its Home and Live tabs on Sundays. Tiles, labels and placement may differ by device, account, software version, location and active subscriptions; do not assume every Google TV interface looks the same.
Search in the YouTube TV app
- Open the YouTube TV app on your device.
- Search for NFL and open the NFL page.
- Select a live game to watch it. For a scheduled game, select it and choose Notify me if that option is available.
- If the game does not appear, confirm that the signed-in Google account is the one that purchased Sunday Ticket.
This is the current search path in YouTube TV’s NFL help. If you bought Sunday Ticket as a YouTube Primetime Channel rather than through YouTube TV, try the YouTube app; the YouTube TV Live tab may not be the relevant place to look.

If a game is missing
- Check that Sunday Ticket is active on the Google account signed in to the app.
- Confirm that the matchup is an out-of-market Sunday afternoon regular-season game covered by the package.
- Check the viewer’s location and whether the game is available on a local broadcast there.
- Update the Google TV and YouTube TV apps, then restart the app or device.
- If the issue appears location-related, review the account’s YouTube TV home-area and playback-location settings.
The home area is the location associated with the YouTube TV account; playback location is where you are watching now. These affect local listings and the games available to you, so a location problem can make coverage look different from what you expect.
Does the feature still matter in 2026?
The integration was announced in 2023, not as a new 2026 feature. It can still be useful if Google TV is your main television interface: recommendations and game links can make it easier to spot a matchup and reach it. But the discovery layer does not change the subscription requirement, Sunday Ticket’s out-of-market limits or the cost of the package. It is a weak reason by itself to buy a Google TV device if your current television platform already works for you.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
The feature is most helpful for Google TV households that already subscribe to Sunday Ticket, especially fans following teams outside their local market or viewers who want games surfaced alongside other television content. It adds little for someone who watches only local games, wants primarily Thursday, Sunday Night, Monday Night or postseason coverage, or expects one subscription to show every NFL game.

YouTube TV plus Sunday Ticket
This route suits viewers who also want a broader live-TV service, including local channels and the networks that carry other live programming. Sunday Ticket is an add-on, not part of the base subscription. YouTube’s current help page lists YouTube TV at $82.99 per month; that is the base service price, not the price of Sunday Ticket. Check the live checkout page for the current Sunday Ticket add-on price. See YouTube TV’s plans and Sunday Ticket purchase information.

Standalone Sunday Ticket through YouTube
This route suits fans who want the out-of-market Sunday afternoon package but do not need a full YouTube TV subscription. It does not replace local channels or add other NFL broadcast windows. Current standard purchase options do not include a single-team or single-week package, and month-to-month availability may depend on the season and the current offer. Check YouTube’s Sunday Ticket purchase options before buying.
| If you need… | Consider… |
|---|---|
| Local and national channels plus out-of-market Sunday afternoon games | YouTube TV with Sunday Ticket as an add-on. |
| Out-of-market Sunday afternoon games without a full live-TV plan | Standalone Sunday Ticket through YouTube. |
| Only local games | An antenna where reception is suitable, or a service carrying the local station. |
| Several games on screen at once | Sunday Ticket through YouTube TV, which offers eligible preselected Multiview combinations. |
| Easier game discovery on the television | Google TV can add convenience, but does not lower the subscription cost. |
Other Sunday Ticket features on YouTube and YouTube TV
These are separate YouTube and YouTube TV capabilities, not features introduced by the 2023 Google TV announcement.
- Multiview: YouTube TV offers preselected combinations that let viewers watch up to four games in one stream; available combinations can vary.
- DVR: Sunday Ticket games can be recorded through the YouTube TV app or website. A standalone Sunday Ticket purchase may still require using those surfaces for DVR access, without requiring a YouTube TV base plan; check the account and device details in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
- Condensed replays: YouTube TV describes 45-minute condensed game replays, generally uploaded by midnight Eastern after a game and available until 11:59 p.m. the following Wednesday. Availability is subject to the service’s current rules.
- Streams and household sharing: YouTube’s current guidance allows unlimited Sunday Ticket streams at home after the home network is established, and generally up to two separate streams outside the home. Eligible household members may share access through a Google family group, subject to account and plan restrictions. See YouTube TV’s streaming and family-sharing rules.
Check the offer and renewal terms before paying
The regular 2026 Sunday Ticket retail price is not established in the official help-page information cited here, so do not treat historical prices or a special discount as the standard price. Google lists a restricted 2026 id.me Heroes offer for eligible military members, veterans, first responders, medical professionals and teachers at $198, with NFL RedZone available for $42 more; the offer is stated to be available through January 10, 2027. Eligibility and terms apply. These are offer-specific figures, not the standard Sunday Ticket price. Details are at YouTube TV’s id.me Heroes offer page.
Before checkout, verify which account and purchase route you are using, the full price, and whether the season pass renews automatically. YouTube says season-pass renewal payments are nonrefundable, though automatic renewal can be canceled before the renewal charge. Check the billing date and manage the subscription through the same service where you purchased it; do not assume canceling a YouTube TV base plan also cancels a separately billed Sunday Ticket package. See YouTube TV’s season-pass billing guidance.
