Netflix settings are split across three places. In a browser, open Netflix, select your profile menu, and choose Account for membership, billing, security, profiles, privacy, and device access. In the Android, iPhone, or iPad app, tap My Netflix, tap the profile name, then choose Manage Profiles for profile preferences. On a TV or streaming device, edit a profile from the profile-selection screen, or pause a title to open Audio & Subtitles and playback controls.
Netflix’s labels and available options vary by device, country, language, billing arrangement, and profile type. The right place to look depends on what you want to change.

Netflix describes account information and many management tools on its browser-based Account page: Account information and settings.
How to open Netflix settings on each device
Computer or mobile browser
- Go to Netflix and sign in.
- Open the profile menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Account.
- Choose the relevant section, such as Membership, Security, Profiles, Access & Devices, Privacy and data settings, or Notification settings. Netflix may rename or rearrange these sections.
The visible Account page is the authority for your account; do not assume another subscriber will see exactly the same links.

Android, iPhone, and iPad
- Open the Netflix app.
- Tap My Netflix in the lower-right corner.
- Tap the profile name at the top.
- Tap Manage Profiles, select a profile, and choose the preference to edit.
This route is useful for profile language, audio, subtitle, and related controls. Use Netflix in a browser for plans, payment details, passwords, security, and most account-wide information. Payment methods generally cannot be managed in the app, with a documented exception for the Samsung Galaxy Store version: Netflix payment methods.
Smart TV, streaming stick, game console, or cable box
From the profile-selection screen, choose a profile’s Edit icon when it is available. To change settings during playback, start a title, pause it, and open the player controls. Select Audio & Subtitles for available languages and captions, or Settings for subtitle appearance when the device supports it. Remote buttons and icon placement differ among televisions, streaming devices, consoles, Blu-ray players, cable boxes, and Apple TV.
Netflix notes that some profile changes, including certain maturity-rating changes, must be completed in a browser: Managing profiles.

Account-level settings
Account settings affect membership or access rather than just one viewer’s recommendations. Common destinations include:
- Email, password, and phone number: use the account’s security or account-information controls.
- Membership plan: open Membership or Change Plan.
- Payment and billing: open Manage payment info and the membership or billing area.
- Privacy and data: use the privacy and data settings shown on the Account page.
- Signed-in devices: open Manage Access and Devices.
- Communication: use Notification settings where available.
Netflix’s account overview is at https://help.netflix.com/en/node/102377. If Netflix is billed through a mobile carrier, cable provider, internet package, or another partner, plan and payment controls may instead belong to that partner.
Profile-level settings
Netflix supports up to five profiles per account. Select the correct profile before changing anything: preferences for one profile do not automatically change the others.

Change Netflix’s display language
Browser
- Open Account.
- Select Profiles and choose the profile.
- Select Languages, then choose Display Language.
- Select Save.
Mobile app
Go to My Netflix → profile name → Manage Profiles → profile → Display Language, then select a language.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Change audio and subtitle preferences
Save preferred languages to a profile
- Open Account in a browser.
- Select Profiles, then the profile.
- Open Languages.
- Select preferred audio and subtitle languages and choose Save.
Change language for the title you are watching
- Start the movie or show.
- Pause playback and open the player controls.
- Select Audio & Subtitles.
- Choose from the languages offered for that title.
Availability depends on the title, device, region, and whether the title is downloaded. Downloaded titles may show only the two most relevant languages. Preferences may not save reliably when most Kids titles are played from an adult profile; Netflix recommends playing a title rated Teens or above for two to three minutes if audio preferences keep resetting: Audio and subtitle options.
Customize subtitle appearance
Browser
- Open Account → Profiles → profile → Subtitle appearance.
- Adjust font, size, shadow, and background color.
- Select Save, then reopen Netflix or restart playback.
Android
Use My Netflix → profile name → Manage Profiles → profile → Subtitle Appearance. Netflix says Android-app changes apply only to titles played on that Android mobile device.
Subtitle styling is not universal. Country and primary-language configuration, device age, and platform support can limit the controls; some TVs expose only size and style. See Netflix subtitle appearance controls.

Manage parental controls
- Open Netflix’s Account page in a browser.
- Select Profiles and choose the profile.
- Open the relevant maturity, viewing-restriction, or profile-lock setting.
- Complete identity verification if Netflix requests a code or password.
- Save or submit the change.
Kids profiles have fewer options, and some maturity-rating changes cannot be completed on a TV. Restrictions apply to the selected profile rather than automatically to every profile.
Review or remove signed-in devices
Sign out one device
- Open Manage Access and Devices.
- Expand the device entry.
- Select Sign Out.
Sign out everywhere
- Open Manage Access and Devices.
- Select Sign Out of All Devices.
- Confirm the action.
The list can show device type, the most recently used profile, and the latest watched date and time. Netflix says a device may take up to 48 hours to appear, and devices used only for Netflix games or Tudum may not be listed: Manage access and devices.
An unfamiliar entry is not automatically proof of account theft, but if access looks suspicious, sign out the device and change your Netflix password.
Change your plan
- Open Netflix’s browser-based Change Plan page.
- Choose a plan.
- Select Continue, Update, or the equivalent confirmation control.
- Confirm the change.
An upgrade generally starts immediately. A downgrade generally starts on the next billing date, although remaining credit or prorated billing can affect timing. The option may be unavailable when an account is on hold or paused, a Kids profile is active, Netflix is billed by a partner, or the account is otherwise ineligible. Details: Changing your Netflix plan.
Update payment information
- Open the browser-based Manage payment info page.
- Select Update beside an existing method or choose Add Payment Method.
- Follow the prompts.
Multiple methods, preferred methods, backup charging, and gift-card balance handling vary by country. Partner-billed accounts may need to use the partner’s payment system. See Managing payment methods.
Why a Netflix setting is missing
- You are using the app when the task requires a browser.
- The wrong profile, or a Kids profile, is active.
- The device or app version does not support the feature.
- The option is unavailable in your country or language configuration.
- Netflix is billed through a partner.
- The account is paused, on hold, or not eligible for a plan change.
- The change requires identity verification.
- You are looking in playback controls for a profile setting, or vice versa.
When a change does not appear
- Confirm that you edited the intended profile.
- Save or submit the change.
- Close and reopen Netflix.
- For a display-language change, sign out and sign back in.
- Restart playback or the device.
- Try the browser Account page.
- Check device, country, language, and partner-billing limitations.
- Contact Netflix support if the control remains unavailable.
Netflix’s documented sign-out and sign-in fix specifically applies to display-language changes; the other steps are general troubleshooting measures.
