The U.S. standalone SHOWTIME streaming service did not shut down in August 2026. Paramount discontinued its SHOWTIME app, website and standalone subscription on April 30, 2024. SHOWTIME programming moved to a SHOWTIME-inclusive Paramount+ plan, so the right next step depends on who billed your old subscription.
What actually shut down?
Paramount ended the standalone U.S. SHOWTIME streaming product on April 30, 2024. The shutdown covered the separate SHOWTIME streaming service, its app and its website, as described in the official shutdown notice.
This was not the disappearance of the SHOWTIME name or all SHOWTIME programming. Paramount continues to present SHOWTIME films and series through its streaming offering; its current brand page identifies Paramount+ Premium as a home for SHOWTIME content (Paramount’s SHOWTIME brand page). A cable or live-TV provider’s SHOWTIME channel entitlement is a separate matter from the discontinued app.

Where to watch SHOWTIME now
New customers should use Paramount+ and select the plan that explicitly includes SHOWTIME programming. Paramount support calls it Paramount+ with SHOWTIME; Paramount’s brand page uses Paramount+ Premium. Product names can vary with market and branding updates, so verify the exact plan description at Paramount+ checkout.

The move made Paramount+ the streaming home for SHOWTIME programming, but it does not guarantee that every historical SHOWTIME title will remain in the catalog forever. Individual programs can change because of licensing, expiration or regional restrictions. The cited SHOWTIME support material describes viewing availability as limited to the United States and its territories and possessions (support details).

The SHOWTIME help center listed these prices for new subscribers on August 18, 2026. They are not a promise of a permanent price; taxes, promotions, platform charges and regional changes may alter the amount shown at checkout.

- Identify the billing company. Check whether charges came from SHOWTIME, Apple, Roku, Amazon Prime Video Channels, The Roku Channel, YouTube TV, a cable company or another live-TV provider.
- Look for transfer instructions. Some customers billed directly by SHOWTIME, Apple or Roku could qualify for an automatic move to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Eligibility depended on the account and provider; it was not universal.
- Try the instructed Paramount+ activation. If a provider or Paramount sent activation instructions, follow those rather than opening a second subscription immediately. The same email address alone does not prove that an account transferred.
- Confirm the tier. Your Paramount+ account should visibly show a plan that includes SHOWTIME. Do not assume Essential includes it.
- Prevent duplicate billing. If you were not eligible for transfer, Paramount advised cancelling the old SHOWTIME subscription before starting a new Paramount+ subscription. Review both billing accounts and keep confirmation of any cancellation.

Paramount’s migration guidance lists Amazon Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Channels, The Roku Channel and YouTube TV as provider routes requiring account-specific handling (subscriber guidance).

Problems that commonly cause confusion
Two active subscriptions
Starting Paramount+ with SHOWTIME while an old subscription is still active can create duplicate charges. Check the original storefront first, especially when no transfer confirmation arrived.
The wrong Paramount+ plan
Essential is the lower-priced tier listed by support; it should not be marketed or assumed as equivalent to the SHOWTIME-inclusive plan. Read the plan name and included-content description at checkout.

A missing title
A SHOWTIME program may be absent because rights expired, the catalog changed or the title is restricted in your location. “Available on Paramount+” is not a guarantee that every past SHOWTIME release is permanently available.

Old app troubleshooting
The standalone app and website were only supported through April 30, 2024. In 2026, use Paramount+ or the provider that bills your television subscription instead of treating the old SHOWTIME app as an active service.

What has not been established universally
Official migration pages do not establish one outcome for every subscriber’s watchlist, viewing history, downloads, gift-card balance, refunds or remaining billing period. They also do not guarantee that account data transferred in every case. For those questions, use the billing provider shown on your statement and Paramount’s support center rather than assuming an automatic carryover.

The cited notices describe the U.S. standalone SHOWTIME streaming service and specify access in the United States and its territories and possessions. Do not apply that date to every international product without checking the local service.
