If Gomorrah is playing in English on Max, that does not by itself prove the service removed its original soundtrack. Viewers have reported missing or hard-to-find language options, but the evidence points to differences by episode, device, region, or provider—not a confirmed platform-wide removal. Max does not guarantee every title or episode will include every original-audio, subtitle, or caption option.
What language options should you look for?
Start the episode and open the player’s Audio and Subtitles menu—the series page alone may not show the tracks available for that episode. Max’s language-control guidance says only some programs have multiple audio tracks, subtitles, or captions, and some options may be English-only.
- Original audio: The program’s original soundtrack. Gomorrah uses both Italian and Neapolitan, so “Italian” may not fully describe the dialogue. The series language listing provides context, but does not establish which tracks Max currently offers.
- English dub: English dialogue recorded in place of the original soundtrack.
- English subtitles: Translated dialogue displayed on screen; they are separate from the audio track.
- English closed captions (CC): Captions that may also identify speakers and relevant sounds.
- Audio description: A separate accessibility track describing visual action. It is not the original soundtrack.
Max says playback can fall back to another available audio track, including English, if a selected preference is unavailable. Changing the app’s display language does not create a media track that the episode does not offer.

What is happening with Gomorrah?
The series is not originally an English-language production: its dialogue includes Italian and Neapolitan. Some viewers have reported English-only playback, while others have reported finding original audio through a different device or playback control. These are individual experiences, not a verified account of every Max version or episode.

JustWatch’s U.S. listing identifies Gomorrah as available through Max-related services and includes English and Italian language metadata. That is a useful availability clue, not proof that Italian or Neapolitan audio is exposed for every episode, account, or device. Listings for season 5 and season 3 likewise cannot confirm the tracks in your player.
Reports about English-only audio for Gomorrah appear in a Max viewer discussion; another viewer describes finding original audio through device controls in a discussion in the show’s subreddit. A separate season 2 discussion describes episode or season inconsistency. Treat these as anecdotal reports, not proof that a workaround works for everyone.

Check the episode before troubleshooting the account
- Open the specific episode and begin playback.
- Pause or tap the screen to reveal playback controls.
- Select the speech-bubble Audio and Subtitles icon.
- Under Audio, look for Italian, original, or another non-English track. Avoid confusing a track marked Audio Description with the original soundtrack.
- Under Subtitles, select English subtitles or English CC if available.
- Close the menu and listen for a change in the dialogue. Then test another episode in the same season.
Max documents this general playback path in its audio and subtitle instructions. The exact control placement can vary across app and device interfaces.

These comparisons help narrow the problem, but they cannot reveal Max’s internal cause. A third-party listing or one successful device test is not definitive evidence about every episode.

Why a language option can differ
Regional availability
Max says programming availability can change with the viewer’s physical location. A show, season, episode, or language asset available in one country may not be available in another. See Max’s regional availability and travel guidance.
Episode-level assets and metadata
A series can have different audio assets or metadata from one episode to another. If only one season or episode lacks a track, report that exact difference rather than describing the entire series as unavailable in its original language.

Device and provider interfaces
Max is also distributed through providers such as Prime Video Channels, Apple, Roku, Xfinity, and Xumo, among others, according to its U.S. provider and plan information. A provider-integrated service may use a different app or playback layer from the direct Max app. Some viewers report finding language controls through their TV device’s settings, but that is anecdotal and not a universal Max procedure.
Saved preferences and downloads
Max may remember an audio preference when it is available and use another track when it is not. For downloads, Max says the original audio and selected subtitles are included when available, along with English closed captions; a download may therefore reflect what was available or selected when it was made. Check Max’s download guidance before relying on a saved copy.

What to try if the track is absent
- Exit the episode and start it again, then reopen Audio and Subtitles.
- Check another episode and season to see whether the gap is limited to one asset.
- Try another supported device. If you subscribe through a provider, test the direct Max app if you have access to it, or compare the provider’s app with Max.
- Sign out and back in, and update or reinstall the app if the controls appear broken. These steps may address a local app issue, but cannot add a missing catalog track.
- Check whether the account is being used while traveling or identified in another region.
- If the track remains absent, contact Max support with the series, season, episode, device and operating-system version, app version if known, region, and billing provider. Say which audio and subtitle options the player actually shows.
Max’s programming availability guidance also covers availability and missing episodes. The exact episode and playback path are more useful for support than a report that simply says “foreign shows are dubbed.”
Does this show that Max removed original audio from foreign shows?
No platform-wide removal is established by the available evidence. Max’s own documentation describes track availability as title-dependent, and viewer reports describe confusing or missing choices in particular cases. The U.S. JustWatch listing continues to show Italian and English language metadata for Gomorrah, but does not verify the live player asset. The evidence supports inconsistent availability or presentation—not a confirmed blanket deletion of original-language tracks.
Should you use another service?
If the series is the main reason for subscribing, verify the exact season and episode’s audio and subtitle details before paying elsewhere. JustWatch can help identify services listing Gomorrah, but its language metadata is not a guarantee about playback.
- Direct Max: Its broader HBO and Max catalog may be worthwhile, but no subscription tier guarantees a missing language track.
- Max through a provider: Consolidated billing or an existing TV interface may be convenient; it may also make it harder to determine whether an issue belongs to Max or the provider’s playback app.
- Licensed digital purchase: JustWatch lists U.S. purchase availability through Amazon Video. Check the retailer’s actual episode page for audio and subtitle details before buying, because availability and language assets can change.
Max’s U.S. plan page lists Basic with Ads at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, Standard at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year, and Premium at $20.99 per month or $209.99 per year. These are the prices shown in that official documentation; check the page for current pricing before subscribing. The plan information does not promise extra language tracks at higher tiers.
