This Australian adaptation of the Geordie Shore reality format was filmed in Cairns, with Charlotte Crosby serving as “House Boss.” The programme’s engine is an ensemble living, partying and falling out together rather than a developing scripted plot.

The appeal is spectacle: strong language, sexual behaviour, nudity, nightlife and interpersonal disputes. The PerthNow review found several cast members likeable and singled out Catia, but “truly outrageous” is a critical description, not an objective measurement.

Joan: reinvention in 1980s London
What it is
Sophie Turner plays Joan, a mother who leaves a disastrous marriage and reinvents herself as a jewel thief. The miniseries draws on the real Joan Hannington and her memoir, but it is a dramatisation rather than a documentary record of every event, person or date.
Why watch
The combination of Turner, 1980s fashion and a protagonist remaking her life gives the series a glossy, brash energy. Underneath are poverty, family breakdown, theft and victimisation, creating a tension between escapist style and damaging consequences.

The central reservation
Viewers may feel that the glamour risks romanticising criminality. The more useful question is whether the drama lets Joan’s ambition and agency coexist with the harm caused by her choices; “based on a true story” should not be read as an endorsement or a factual reconstruction. Its original Australian home was Stan, with episodes listed for Tuesday.

What it is
Although absent from the headline, this series is part of the original five-title list. Set in Perth in 1979, it follows a married couple played by Radha Mitchell and Jesse Spencer as personal pressures meet a period of social change.
Why place matters
For Western Australian viewers, landscapes, streets and production design are part of the subject, not decorative background. The PerthNow review questioned the fact that the production was not filmed in Western Australia, a criticism that may be more noticeable to locals than to overseas viewers.

Content note
The season’s discussions of mental illness, eating disorders and emotional distress may be difficult for some viewers. Those experiences deserve to be treated as real health concerns, not simply as romantic plot machinery. Netflix was the original Australian platform, with the season listed for Thursday.
