Disney confirmed the new direct-to-consumer ESPN service on May 13, 2025, and it launched in the United States on August 21, 2025. The broad plan, marketed as ESPN Unlimited, combines ESPN’s traditional cable networks with ESPN+ and related digital services in the ESPN app. It is a major change in how viewers can buy ESPN, but “all cable and streaming content” is shorthand—not a promise that every sports event is available everywhere without blackouts, rights limits or device restrictions.
What Disney actually announced
Disney is the parent company; ESPN operates the sports networks and streaming products. The 2025 announcement did not create another separately branded entertainment service. Instead, Disney said the new direct-to-consumer product would use the ESPN name and bring the company’s linear networks and ESPN+ programming together.
The service is now live inside an enhanced ESPN app. Its two principal U.S. plans are:
- ESPN Select: the lower-cost option focused primarily on ESPN+ programming.
- ESPN Unlimited: the full ESPN-oriented option, adding the traditional network portfolio and other ESPN services.

What ESPN Unlimited includes
ESPN’s current product pages list the following as part of Unlimited, although the availability of a particular event can still depend on rights and location:
Linear ESPN networks
- ESPN and ESPN2
- ESPNU and ESPNEWS
- ESPN Deportes
- SEC Network and ACC Network
- ESPN on ABC
- ESPN3
Digital services and conference feeds
- ESPN+ programming
- SEC Network+
- ACC Network Extra
- Other programming identified by ESPN as part of its digital service portfolio
ESPN’s 2026 promotional materials also list NFL Network with the current offering. Because network lineups and sports rights can change, check the live plan description at ESPN’s subscription page before paying.
This is best understood as the broadest ESPN package, not as “every sport” or every channel that carries sports. Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, Big Ten Network, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, regional sports networks and many league packages remain separate products or services.

ESPN Select versus ESPN Unlimited
Select is aimed at viewers who mainly want ESPN+ content. ESPN describes that tier as carrying selected soccer, PGA Tour, NHL, college sports, tennis, PLL, UFL and other programming. It does not include the full collection of ESPN cable networks.
Unlimited includes the Select content plus ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network and the other services listed for the broader plan. If a game is on a traditional ESPN channel, Select is generally the wrong tier; if you only watch ESPN+ originals and events, Unlimited may be unnecessary.

The prices below are U.S. prices shown by ESPN in August 2026. “Starting at” language, taxes, eligibility, promotions and renewal terms can change.

At launch, Disney promoted a Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Unlimited bundle at $29.99 per month for the first 12 months, with ads on Disney+ and Hulu. That was a launch offer, not the ordinary current bundle price. ESPN’s current bundle information is at plus.espn.com/bundle; the NFL package is at plus.espn.com/nflbundle.

Does ESPN Unlimited replace cable?
It can replace the ESPN portion of a pay-TV package, but it is not a complete cable replacement. A standalone ESPN subscription normally does not provide local CBS, NBC or Fox stations, general entertainment and news channels, every regional sports network, or every league’s out-of-market package.
For a household that pays for a live-TV service mainly to receive ESPN, Unlimited may remove the need for that larger package. A household that needs local channels, non-ESPN sports or broad news and entertainment will still need another service, an antenna or a traditional provider.

Can existing TV customers get Unlimited without paying again?
Sometimes. ESPN says customers who receive ESPN through a participating television or mobile provider may be eligible to activate digital access at no additional cost. ESPN identifies providers including Hulu + Live TV, DIRECTV’s streaming service, Fubo and Spectrum, with eligibility dependent on the exact package.
Do not assume that having an ESPN channel automatically grants Unlimited. A customer may have a pay-TV subscription, an ESPN app login linked to that subscription, a separate Unlimited entitlement and a Disney+ or Hulu bundle—four related but distinct things. Use the provider-linking or “activate ESPN” flow, then confirm the plan displayed after signing in. ESPN’s provider information is available at plus.espn.com and in its service explainer. Check before buying a second subscription.

Unlimited subscribers watch primarily through the ESPN app. Qualifying bundle subscribers can also find ESPN programming through Disney+, including its ESPN tile or live-sports experience. Disney’s help pages explain the requirements for live sports and ESPN access.

Keep three questions separate:
- Entitlement: what the subscription includes.
- App access: where the stream can be opened.
- Platform and provider support: whether your device and TV provider support that stream and authentication method.
The same entitlement may appear in both apps without every feature, presentation or login experience being identical.
What “all” does not mean
Important: “All cable and streaming content” means the networks and services included in ESPN Unlimited—not every event ESPN could ever distribute with no restrictions.
- Sports rights can differ by event, season, territory and platform.
- Local and regional restrictions can apply.
- Blackouts remain relevant, including for MLB.TV products. ESPN’s MLB.TV information expressly warns that blackouts and other restrictions apply.
- Not every event is necessarily available on every device or in both the ESPN and Disney+ apps.
- A subscription is not a guarantee of ESPN’s entire historical archive on demand.
- Disney+ alone does not automatically include the full ESPN catalog; broader access requires an ESPN subscription or a qualifying Disney+, Hulu and ESPN bundle.
For NFL viewers, ESPN’s NFL+ Premium bundle has its own rules. ESPN notes that local and primetime NFL+ Premium games are available on phones and tablets only, so read the package terms rather than treating it as a universal television replacement.

- Need ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network or ESPNU? Choose Unlimited, subject to the event-specific restrictions above.
- Already pay for live TV? Check your provider’s activation page first; you may already have the digital entitlement.
- Also use Disney+ and Hulu? Compare the current bundle from $35.99 monthly with separate subscriptions.
- Primarily follow the NFL? Compare Unlimited with the NFL+ Premium bundle, beginning at the listed $39.99 monthly.
- Need Fox, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, local channels or regional networks? ESPN Unlimited alone will not cover those needs.
Why the announcement matters
The significance is not that every sports right became freely available over the internet. It is that ESPN’s traditionally bundled cable networks became purchasable through a direct ESPN subscription alongside ESPN+. That gives some sports fans a narrower alternative to a full live-TV package, while leaving rights, blackouts, local channels and non-ESPN networks outside the deal.
