Yes, but the method depends on which Chromecast you own and which device runs the Apple TV app. With Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, or a compatible Android TV device, the most reliable option is to install the Apple TV app on the television and play your movie there. An older Chromecast that only receives casts usually cannot install the Apple TV app.
From an iPhone or iPad, do not assume that the Apple TV app can send video directly to a conventional Chromecast: Apple documents AirPlay receivers, not Chromecast, for this workflow. Android casting may be available in current versions of the Apple TV app, but you must check for the Cast button. HDMI is the most dependable fallback when wireless playback fails.

Google Cast requires a compatible destination, a Cast-enabled app or website, and normally the same Wi-Fi network. Google lists Android 6.0 or later and iOS 12 or later for general Google Cast use; these are general Cast requirements, not necessarily requirements for the Apple TV app itself. First, identify your Chromecast
The word “Chromecast” covers several different products:

- Older Chromecast: a small receiver controlled from a phone, tablet, or computer. It has no full app store or traditional remote and cannot run the Apple TV app locally.
- Chromecast with Google TV: a streaming device with a Google TV home screen, remote, app store, and locally installed apps. It can run Apple TV.
- Google TV Streamer: newer Google TV hardware that also runs apps directly on the television.
- Google Cast television: a TV with Google Cast built in. Some models may also support installing Apple TV, depending on the TV platform, country, and software version.
- Apple TV device: Apple’s separate set-top box. It is not a Chromecast and uses Apple’s own TV platform.
This distinction resolves much of the confusion. “Can I install Apple TV on my Chromecast?” and “Can I cast from my iPhone to my Chromecast?” are different questions with different answers.
How to watch Apple movies on Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer
This is usually the simplest and most stable solution.
- Turn on Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, or a supported Android TV/Google TV device.
- From the home screen, open Search or the Apps tab.
- Search for Apple TV. Search for “Apple TV,” not only “Apple TV+.”
- Select the Apple TV app and choose Install or Get.
- Open the app and sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase or subscription.
- Open your Library, Apple TV+, or the relevant channel and start playback with the Google TV remote.
Apple documents this installation path for supported Android TV and Google TV devices. Google also announced Apple TV availability on Chromecast with Google TV. See Apple’s guide to watching on smart TVs and streaming devices and Google’s announcement.
In this setup, the phone is not sending the movie to Chromecast. The Google TV device is running the Apple TV app itself.
What can you watch?
Depending on your country, account, title, and device support, the Apple TV app may provide access to:
- Apple TV+ subscription content;
- movies and shows purchased or rented from Apple;
- Apple TV Channels; and
- other content made available through the Apple TV app.
Use the same Apple Account that owns the purchase or subscription. A Google Account does not replace an Apple Account, and signing into the wrong Apple Account can make a legitimate purchase appear to be missing.
Apple says Google TV and Android TV versions of the app do not support purchases inside the app. You may therefore need to buy or rent a title on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC, or another supported device before watching it on Google TV.

If Apple TV does not appear
- Confirm that the device is Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, or a supported Android TV/Google TV device—not an older Chromecast.
- Install available system updates and restart the device.
- Check the device’s country or region.
- Search for “Apple TV.”
- Check the app store again after rebooting.
Avoid treating a sideloaded APK as the normal solution. Unofficial installation can cause sign-in, DRM, update, and security problems.
Can you cast Apple movies from Android?
Possibly. Reports from late 2025 indicated that an Android version of the Apple TV app added Google Cast support. Because the Apple support material available for this guide does not provide a permanent, first-party confirmation of that feature, treat it as version-dependent.
- Update Apple TV from Google Play.
- Connect the Android phone or tablet and Chromecast to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Apple TV and start a movie or show.
- Look for the Cast icon.
- Choose your Chromecast or Google Cast television.
- Use the app’s controls to pause, seek, or disconnect.
See the reports from 9to5Google and Android Central. Their reporting is useful for identifying the feature, but the presence of the Cast button in your installed app is the practical test.
If there is no Cast icon, that does not necessarily indicate a faulty Chromecast. The feature may not be available for your app version, device, region, title, or playback mode. In that case, use Apple TV directly on Google TV if available.

Not reliably to a basic Chromecast through Apple’s documented AirPlay workflow. Apple’s AirPlay instructions identify Apple TV, AirPlay-compatible smart TVs, and Mac as destinations. A conventional Chromecast is a Google Cast receiver, not automatically an AirPlay receiver. Google Cast also requires the originating app to implement Cast support.
That means the AirPlay button on an iPhone or iPad should not be expected to discover an ordinary Chromecast. Instead, choose one of these options:
Use the Apple TV app on Google TV
If you have Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, or another supported Google TV/Android TV device, install Apple TV there and sign in. This is preferable to trying to mirror the iPhone.

Use AirPlay with an AirPlay receiver
- Connect the iPhone or iPad and an AirPlay-compatible TV, Mac, or Apple TV device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Apple TV and play the title.
- Tap the AirPlay button, if available.
- Select the AirPlay receiver.
Apple notes that some video apps may not support AirPlay. Protected movies can also prevent or restrict screen mirroring, so AirPlay is not a guarantee for every title.

Use HDMI
Connect the iPhone or iPad to the television with a compatible Lightning-to-HDMI or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter, depending on the device model. Select the correct HDMI input and play the movie in Apple TV.
For a Mac or Windows computer, connect HDMI directly or through a compatible video adapter. HDCP compatibility matters for protected content, and the adapter, cable, television, and resolution must work together. Google provides general HDMI guidance.
Can a Mac or Windows computer cast Apple TV?
A possible wireless fallback is to open the Apple TV website in Chrome, sign in, start playback, and use Chrome’s Cast control. Google supports casting from Chrome and compatible websites.
- Open the Apple TV website in Chrome.
- Sign in with your Apple Account.
- Start the movie or show.
- Open Chrome’s Cast control.
- Select the Chromecast destination.
This is browser or tab casting, not native Apple TV app casting. Protected video can behave differently according to the browser, operating system, title, and DRM implementation. If playback is black, silent, unstable, or unavailable, use the Apple TV app on Google TV or an HDMI connection instead.

Troubleshooting Chromecast and Apple TV
The Cast icon is missing
- Confirm that the destination is powered on and fully booted.
- Update Apple TV and the Chromecast or Google TV system.
- Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Do not use guest Wi-Fi or a network with client isolation.
- Disable a VPN or security filter temporarily to test discovery.
- On iPhone or iPad, allow the app or Google Cast access to the Local Network in Settings.
- Restart both devices and reopen Apple TV.
Google notes that local-network access, isolated networks, and network changes can prevent Cast devices from appearing.
The device appears, but playback fails
Possible causes include an outdated app, DRM or title restrictions, unsupported resolution, an HDCP problem, a temporary authentication error, regional availability, or an Apple Account mismatch.

Try this recovery order:
- Stop playback and force-close Apple TV.
- Restart the Chromecast or Google TV device.
- Update Apple TV and system software.
- Sign out and back in with the Apple Account that owns the title.
- Play the title through the Apple TV app installed directly on Google TV.
- Try HDMI or an AirPlay receiver.
- Reserve a factory reset for cases where simpler steps fail.
The Apple TV app is not in the app list
The most likely explanation is that you have an older Chromecast rather than a Google TV device. Older Chromecast models receive content from compatible apps but do not install television apps. Check whether your device has a Google TV interface and remote. If it does not, use a supported streaming device, browser casting, AirPlay hardware, or HDMI.
Can iPhone screen mirroring solve it?
Do not confuse iPhone screen mirroring with Google Cast. Native iPhone mirroring uses AirPlay. Third-party mirroring apps may introduce latency, advertisements, privacy concerns, reduced quality, subscription fees, or DRM blocking. They are a last resort rather than a dependable solution for Apple movie playback.

What about the Google TV app and Movies Anywhere?
The Google TV app’s library is not automatically the same as your Apple Account library. A movie purchased from Apple remains associated with Apple unless a specific supported service integration makes it available elsewhere.
Movies Anywhere can help with eligible movie purchases in the United States when the relevant accounts are linked. It does not transfer every Apple purchase, does not apply to Apple TV+ subscription titles, and is not available as a general Apple-to-Chromecast bridge. See Google’s Movies Anywhere guidance.
Which hardware should you choose?
If you already own Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer, installing Apple TV is normally the best answer. It avoids wireless discovery problems and lets the streaming device handle playback.
If your household is heavily invested in Apple purchases, iPhones, iPads, and AirPlay, Apple TV 4K may provide a more integrated experience. It is unnecessary for someone who already has a capable Google TV device and only occasionally watches Apple content.
For the simplest low-complexity fallback, use a compatible HDMI adapter. Choose a USB-C or Lightning model according to the source device, and check compatibility with protected content, charging, resolution, and HDCP.

Older Chromecast devices generally cannot run Apple TV, and an iPhone or iPad should not be expected to cast Apple movies directly to a basic Chromecast. Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, and compatible Android TV devices are different: install Apple TV, sign in with the correct Apple Account, and play the movie directly on the TV. Android casting may work when the current Apple TV app displays a Cast button. When wireless playback is unavailable or unreliable, use an AirPlay receiver or HDMI.
