There is no single switch to turn off every Apple Music alert, recommendation, or feature. Apple describes Apple Music as ad-free, but the Music app can still show recommendations and subscription offers, send new-music notifications, and play or display music in ways you may want to change. Use the control that matches the distraction: turn off notifications, adjust recommendations, disable AutoPlay or song transitions, or switch off animated artwork. These steps reflect Apple’s iOS 26 documentation; labels may vary by region, language, or later software versions.
Choose the setting for what is bothering you

Apple calls the service ad-free, but that does not mean the app has no discovery content, recommendations, subscription prompts, or notifications. Turning off iPhone notifications will not remove messages or recommendations displayed inside Music. Apple does not document a universal “turn off ads and features” setting.

Turn off Music notifications
To stop all Music notifications on iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Music.
- Tap Notifications.
- Turn off Allow Notifications.
This stops Music alerts from appearing as banners, on the Lock Screen, or in Notification Center. Apple documents the app notification controls here.
If you want to keep other Music notifications but stop new-release alerts, open Music, tap your profile picture or My Account, then Notifications and switch off New Music if that option appears. Apple also documents a route through Settings > Notifications > Music, where Music Notification Settings may offer a New Music control. Availability and labels can differ. See Apple’s instructions for finding new music.
If Music or its Notifications entry is missing in Settings, the app may not currently be able to send notifications. Turning off alerts will not hide an offer, recommendation, or subscription prompt that appears when you open the app.

Reduce personalized recommendations
To stop Apple Music from using your listening habits to adjust recommendations and Replay playlists:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Music.
- Turn off Use Listening History.
Apple says this setting affects recommendations and Replay, and also hides music played on the device from Apple Music followers. It is a broad change—not a way to remove the Home or New sections. Read Apple’s explanation of personalized recommendations.

Stop automatic playback after your queue
AutoPlay adds similar songs after the music already in your queue ends. To turn it off:
- Start playing a song in Music.
- Tap the MiniPlayer at the bottom of the screen to expand it.
- Tap Playing Next or Up Next.
- At the top of the queue, tap the AutoPlay button so AutoPlay is no longer enabled.
Apple says AutoPlay is available to Apple Music subscribers. A change can also affect other devices signed in to the same Apple Account, so a setting that seems to change on another device may be account-wide behavior rather than a reset. If AutoPlay is hard to find, make sure a song is playing, expand the MiniPlayer, open the queue, and look at its top. Repeat and Shuffle may be unavailable while an AutoPlay queue is active; try turning AutoPlay off first. Apple explains the interaction in its shuffle and repeat guide.

Turn off AutoMix and Crossfade
These are transitions between songs, not the same as AutoPlay. AutoPlay fills the queue with more songs; AutoMix dynamically transitions between compatible tracks, while Crossfade fades between songs. To disable transitions:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Music.
- Tap Song Transitions.
- Turn off Song Transitions.
You can also open the MiniPlayer, tap Up Next, and tap the active AutoMix or Crossfade button to turn that transition off. AutoMix requires an Apple Music subscription and may be unavailable on some devices or for certain material, including sequential albums, incompatible tracks, uploaded music, and iTunes Store purchases. Turn off animated album artwork
For Music-specific artwork motion, go to Settings > Apps > Music > Animated Art and choose Off, if that option is available in your iOS version. This is separate from playback transitions. Apple documents the Music player controls here.

If you want to reduce motion throughout iOS, not only in Music, go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn on Reduce Motion. That system-wide accessibility option is broader than the Music-specific Animated Art control; see Apple’s motion settings guide.

Apple’s iPhone Music guide describes Library as the place for music you have added, downloaded, synced, or purchased; Home presents personalized recommendations; and New features releases, charts, and discovery content. Apple documents ways to edit categories within Library, but its current documentation does not show a supported setting to remove the main Home or New tabs or make Music a Library-only interface. Turning off listening history does not remove those tabs. See Apple’s guide to playing music on iPhone.
If you want to focus on music you already have, tap Library in Music and choose a category such as Albums, Songs, or Playlists. Choose Downloaded to focus on music stored on the iPhone. This is a practical way to stay in your library, not a way to hide the app’s other main sections.

Should you cancel Apple Music?
Cancel only if you want to stop the subscription, not merely to silence notifications or change playback. Apple’s documented route is to open Music, tap your profile picture or My Account, tap Manage Subscription, and follow the cancellation steps.
When the subscription ends, Apple says you can no longer stream Apple Music songs or play Apple Music catalog songs downloaded for offline listening. This does not mean that all music on your phone disappears: locally synced music, iTunes Store purchases, and music you own from other sources are separate. Cancellation also is not a notification setting, and Apple does not promise that it removes every promotional surface from the app. Read the relevant details in Apple’s Apple Music subscription guide.
A quieter Music setup
- Stop alerts: Settings > Apps > Music > Notifications > Allow Notifications off. Turn off New Music separately if you want to retain other alerts and that control is available.
- Reduce history-based personalization: Settings > Apps > Music > Use Listening History off. Expect changes to recommendations and Replay.
- Stop queue filling: Music > MiniPlayer > Playing Next/Up Next > AutoPlay off. Remember this can affect devices on the same Apple Account.
- Stop transitions: Settings > Apps > Music > Song Transitions off.
- Stop moving artwork: Settings > Apps > Music > Animated Art > Off, if available.
- Keep to your collection: Music > Library > Downloaded for music stored on your iPhone.
This quiets the specific alerts, personalization, playback behavior, and visuals controlled by these settings. It does not remove Home or New, nor does it guarantee that in-app recommendations or subscription offers disappear.
