The best-known movies to watch this week are not necessarily brand-new August 2026 releases. The original Bad Boys (1995) and Ghostbusters (1984) are timely streaming picks whose U.S. availability was checked in August, while Netflix’s genuinely new additions for August 10–16 include Nando Between Two Worlds – A Sintonia Film, A Child of My Own, Don’t Say Good Luck, To the Max, and several library titles.
Streaming catalogs change by country, subscription plan, advertising tier, and licensing window. The provider information below is a U.S. snapshot checked on August 9–11, 2026—not a permanent guarantee of availability.

Important distinction: “New this week” means newly scheduled for a service during August 10–16. It does not necessarily mean a film is newly released in 2026. Conversely, a title can be an excellent watch-now recommendation without having arrived this week.
Watch Bad Boys (1995)
If you want a fast, familiar action-comedy, the original Bad Boys is the franchise’s first Miami-cop adventure. Directed by Michael Bay, the 1995 Columbia Pictures film stars Will Smith as Mike Lowrey and Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett, with Téa Leoni in a central role.

Sony’s official synopsis follows the mismatched detectives as they investigate the theft of $100 million in confiscated heroin. Their case becomes more dangerous when they must protect the surviving witness to a related murder. That combination of police action, comic friction, and witness protection is the basic template later Bad Boys films expanded.
As of the U.S. availability check on August 9, 2026, JustWatch listed Bad Boys on Amazon Prime Video, Philo, Amazon Prime Video with Ads, Fandango at Home Free, VIX, Amazon Prime Video Free with Ads, Tubi TV, and Fawesome. It also listed digital rental and purchase options through Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store, and Fandango at Home, along with DVD and Blu-ray purchase options.
Those labels should not be read as a promise that every viewer receives the film through an ordinary paid subscription. A listing may refer to an ad-supported tier, a separate channel, a free-with-ads catalog, a rental, or a purchase. Check the title page on your own service before pressing play.
If you would rather own it: Sony lists the film for Blu-ray and DVD home viewing, so Bad Boys Blu-ray is a straightforward physical-media alternative; a Bad Boys DVD is also available. Buying a disc is optional and is not required to use any of the streaming or digital options above.
Best for: viewers who want buddy-cop banter, 1990s action filmmaking, and the original Smith–Lawrence pairing rather than a new release.
Watch Ghostbusters (1984)
For a classic rather than a new arrival, choose the original Ghostbusters (1984), directed by Ivan Reitman. The cast includes Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Rick Moranis.
Sony’s synopsis begins with three former university researchers—Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler—starting a ghost-removal business in New York City. The small enterprise becomes the city’s main defense when supernatural forces begin emerging through a mysterious gateway.
JustWatch’s U.S. check on August 11, 2026 listed the 1984 film on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads. It also listed digital rental and purchase options through Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store, Fandango at Home, and Spectrum On Demand, as well as DVD and Blu-ray purchase options. The same check reported no free streaming option at that time.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Because several films share the Ghostbusters name, search for the 1984 original rather than Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, or Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Netflix’s plan availability and the film’s presence in its catalog can still change after the date above.
If you want a higher-quality physical edition: Sony lists the original film in 4K Ultra HD, so the Ghostbusters 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is the most substantial ownership option identified in the current research. Sony also lists standard Blu-ray and DVD editions.
A 4K disc requires compatible equipment: Sony identifies a 4K UHD Blu-ray player, a compatible 4K HDR television, and a suitable high-speed HDMI connection as part of the playback setup. The 4K edition is therefore an ownership option, not simply another streaming tier.
Best for: viewers who want supernatural comedy, a major 1980s studio classic, or a family movie night for which the film’s PG rating is relevant. Parents should still consider whether its ghosts, scares, and comic peril suit the children watching.

Actually new on Netflix this week
Netflix’s published schedule lists 21 additions during August 10–16. The following are the week’s notable movie entries. They are new to Netflix’s schedule for these dates; that wording does not necessarily mean they are newly made or receiving their first release in 2026.

Netflix’s same schedule also lists Mourinho on August 11 and Rory Scovel: Show Must Go On on August 11. They are not movies: Mourinho is a documentary, while Rory Scovel’s title is a comedy special. For DocumentaryTube readers, Mourinho is the most directly relevant non-fiction addition in this week’s Netflix schedule.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Other streaming activity during August 10–16
The week is not limited to Netflix, but the services are not all publishing their schedules in the same way. A separate current streaming guide lists Michael as a Starz movie addition on August 10 and Furious as a Hulu series addition. Those entries show that the week’s notable activity is spread across multiple platforms rather than concentrated on one service. Confirm the exact title and edition in the relevant app, particularly for names that may refer to more than one film.
Paramount+: a monthly catalog refresh, not a week-specific list
Paramount+’s official August guide describes a large catalog refresh beginning August 1. Among the listed titles are Blade Runner 2049, Gravity, The Lego Movie, Clue, Risky Business, and the From Dusk Till Dawn films.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThese are useful alternatives if you are browsing for something to watch during this week, but they should not be presented as films that all arrived between August 10 and August 16. Paramount+ also notes that some titles require the Premium plan, so the service’s catalog presence does not automatically mean inclusion on every plan.
Tubi: free, ad-supported browsing across a broad August lineup
Tubi’s announced August lineup contains 153 movies and shows. Most of the refresh arrives on August 1, with selected titles appearing later in the month, so it is a monthly catalog guide rather than proof that a particular film arrived during this exact week.
The lineup is useful for viewers looking for free, ad-supported choices and emphasizes action and horror. Listed examples include the first three Mission: Impossible films, Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2, several Final Destination titles, Scream, and Trolls. Tubi’s catalog and availability can still vary by territory and can change as licenses expire.
Which movie should you choose?
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Action-comedy | Bad Boys (1995) | The original Miami-detective pairing of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, with a crime investigation and witness-protection plot. |
| Supernatural comedy | Ghostbusters (1984) | The original New York ghost-removal team and the film that established the central concept. |
| A brand-new Netflix-schedule option | To the Max or Don’t Say Good Luck | Both are scheduled for August 14, with one centered on wingsuit BASE jumping and the other described as a musical coming-of-age dramedy. |
| Family viewing | Firehouse Dog or Smurfs: The Lost Village | Both are scheduled for Netflix on August 15; check the service’s current rating and your household’s preferences. |
| A thriller | The Shallows | The Netflix schedule lists it for August 15 as a survival-thriller option. |
| Documentary viewing | Mourinho | It is listed for Netflix on August 11 and is the week’s clearest documentary choice in the supplied schedule. |
| Free, ad-supported browsing | Check Bad Boys listings and Tubi’s August lineup | JustWatch listed free or ad-supported options for Bad Boys; Tubi’s broader lineup includes action, horror, and family titles, subject to catalog changes. |
How to check availability before you start watching
- Search the exact year. Use Bad Boys (1995) and Ghostbusters (1984) to avoid selecting a sequel, remake, or reboot.
- Read the plan label. “Available on a service” can mean an ad-supported tier, a premium plan, an add-on channel, a separate rental, or an outright purchase.
- Check the transaction type. Rental and purchase prices change, and a digital store listing is not the same as inclusion with a subscription.
- Confirm your territory. The availability checks in this article are U.S.-specific. A title may be absent, appear on a different service, or carry different plan restrictions elsewhere.
- Recheck before paying. Streaming rights can change between the publication date and the moment you open the app.
Source note: Film identity, cast, plot, ratings, and home-media formats are based on Sony’s official listings. Provider availability is attributed to JustWatch checks dated August 9 and August 11, 2026. Netflix, Paramount+, and Tubi information comes from their published schedule or lineup materials, with the Starz and Hulu entries taken from a separate current streaming guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Bad Boys and Ghostbusters new releases this week?
No. The article’s two headline anchors are catalog titles: Bad Boys is the 1995 original and Ghostbusters is the 1984 original. They are included because current U.S. listings made them timely watch-now options, not because they were newly released in August 2026.
Where can I stream the original Ghostbusters?
JustWatch listed the 1984 Ghostbusters on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads in the U.S. on August 11, 2026. It also listed rental and purchase options through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Fandango at Home, and Spectrum On Demand. Availability and plan inclusion can change.
Is the original Bad Boys free to watch?
The August 9, 2026 U.S. JustWatch check listed several free or ad-supported options, including Fandango at Home Free, Tubi TV, Fawesome, and ad-supported Prime Video listings. The exact offer may depend on location, account, ads, and the service’s current catalog, so verify the title page before watching.
Which new Netflix movie is best for documentary fans?
Mourinho, scheduled for August 11, is the clearest documentary choice in Netflix’s weekly schedule. It is a documentary rather than a movie, while Rory Scovel: Show Must Go On is a comedy special.
The Bottom Line
The short version: choose Bad Boys (1995) for action-comedy or Ghostbusters (1984) for supernatural comedy, but do not confuse either catalog anchor with a brand-new 2026 release. For genuinely new Netflix arrivals, begin with the August 12–15 schedule; for broader browsing, compare Paramount+’s August refresh and Tubi’s ad-supported lineup. Check the exact service, plan, territory, and transaction type immediately before viewing.
