Animal Control is on Netflix in the U.S., with Seasons 1–3 confirmed. The Joel McHale sitcom made its surprise Netflix debut on December 26, 2025—just before Season 4 premiered on FOX. Season 5 is officially renewed and scheduled for FOX on September 27, 2026, but Netflix has not announced a release date for it.
Yes—Animal Control is streaming on Netflix in the United States, but the confirmed Netflix package is Seasons 1–3. The Joel McHale workplace sitcom arrived in the U.S. Netflix catalog on December 26, 2025, just two days before Season 4’s special FOX premiere. It was a licensing deal for an existing FOX series, not a Netflix original or a new Netflix production. [C001][C003][C004]
What happened with Animal Control and Netflix?
Netflix made a quiet catalog pickup of Animal Control on Friday, December 26, 2025. The timing was unusual: FOX broadcast the show’s Season 4 premiere on Sunday, December 28, giving new viewers a way to catch up immediately before the next season began.
The first report said Netflix would receive at least two seasons and possibly all three seasons available at the time. FOX later resolved that uncertainty in its February 26, 2026 renewal announcement, confirming that Seasons 1–3 were streaming on Netflix. [C001][C003]

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
That distinction matters. Animal Control is not a Netflix original, and the available official information does not confirm that Season 4—or the upcoming Season 5—will be added to Netflix. Netflix catalogs can also vary by country and change over time, so viewers outside the United States should search their local Netflix listing.
Why did FOX put the sitcom on Netflix?
The most plausible explanation is a catch-up strategy. By placing earlier seasons on a large subscription service shortly before a new FOX season, FOX could introduce the series to viewers who had missed its broadcast run, while giving existing fans a convenient way to revisit the story.
That interpretation is supported by the timing and by the show’s subsequent Netflix audience. FOX said in February 2026 that Seasons 1–3 generated more than 1 billion minutes watched on Netflix during their first eight weeks. FOX also called Animal Control its number-one acquired comedy series on Netflix by total viewers and its third-ranked acquired comedy by minutes watched, behind Young Sheldon and Seinfeld. [C003]
However, FOX has not published the financial terms of the licensing agreement or said that Netflix viewing alone caused the Season 5 renewal. The Netflix deal is best understood as an audience-expansion move, not as a formally announced ratings experiment.

What is Animal Control about?
Animal Control is a single-camera workplace comedy set inside a Seattle animal-control unit. Its central joke is that the animals are usually easier to understand than the people responsible for dealing with them.
Joel McHale plays Frank Shaw, an opinionated and unconventional animal-control officer. Frank is a former police officer who lost his job after trying to expose corruption, and he has the unusual ability to understand animals. That talent does not make his workplace relationships any less chaotic.
The principal ensemble includes:
- Joel McHale as Frank Shaw
- Michael Rowland as Fred “Shred” Taylor
- Vella Lovell as Emily Price
- Ravi V. Patel as Amit Patel
- Grace Palmer as Victoria Sands
Netflix classifies the series as a TV-14 comedy and sitcom. The listed creators are Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg, and Dan Sterling. [C002][C004]

If you are trying to watch the earlier seasons, the simplest route is to watch Animal Control on Netflix and confirm that Seasons 1–3 appear in your local catalog. If Netflix does not carry the season you need, check Hulu, FOX One, or the digital stores. Subscription plans, advertising tiers, prices, and episode coverage are not fixed and may differ by location. [C003][C004][C008]
A Disney+ title page has also displayed Animal Control episodes identified from Season 4. That is a useful indication that the title may appear in some Disney+ catalogs, but it should not be treated as proof that every U.S. Disney+ subscriber has the same seasons. Regional catalog presentation and availability can differ. [C009]
Is Season 4 on Netflix?
It has not been confirmed by the cited FOX announcement. FOX specifically confirmed Seasons 1–3 on Netflix. Although Season 4 premiered on FOX in December 2025 and has appeared in other platform listings, there is no basis here to promise that Netflix carries it in the United States.
Viewers should open the Netflix title page in their own market rather than assume that the full series is available. A platform may show the program while carrying only selected seasons, or may list different episodes depending on the country.

When does Animal Control Season 5 premiere?
Season 5 premieres on FOX on Sunday, September 27, 2026. As of August 12, 2026, that season is upcoming; it is not currently airing. FOX announced the renewal on February 26, 2026 and later announced the September premiere date on July 13, 2026. [C003][C007]
FOX said the fourth season was delivering series-high performance, with its premiere setting highs across Adults 18–49, total viewers, and seven-day multiplatform viewing. The network has not announced a same-day Netflix release for Season 5. Therefore, viewers should treat September 27 as the confirmed FOX premiere date—not as a confirmed Netflix streaming date. The network also identifies the program as a FOX-owned production distributed globally by FOX Entertainment Global, which helps explain why FOX can license earlier episodes to outside platforms while continuing to use its own broadcast and streaming outlets. - Want to start from the beginning? Netflix is the confirmed U.S. home for Seasons 1–3.
- Want Season 4? Check FOX-connected services and current regional listings; do not assume it is on Netflix.
- Want to buy instead of subscribe? Check Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, or Fandango At Home for current digital purchase or rental options.
- Want Season 5? The confirmed premiere is Sunday, September 27, 2026, on FOX. No Netflix release date has been announced in the available information.
The surprise Netflix arrival gave Animal Control a substantial discovery window before Season 4 and appears to have delivered a large audience. But the important viewer-facing detail is narrower: in the United States, Netflix’s confirmed package is Seasons 1–3, while Season 5 remains a FOX premiere scheduled for September 27, 2026.
