Eric features 18 documented licensed-song placements across its six episodes, plus the fictional “Good Day Sunshine” theme and a separate original score by Keefus Ciancia. The songs range from 1960s and 1970s recordings to music selected for the show’s 1985 New York setting. Here is where each one plays, with the important version and timing qualifications included.

Spoilers ahead for all six episodes of Eric.

Are there exact timestamps for the songs?

Not reliably from the currently published song guides. The available documentation identifies each song’s episode and scene, but it does not provide a complete, independently verified set of minute-and-second timecodes for the United States Netflix stream. Playback times can also shift depending on whether the opening or closing credits are included.

For that reason, this guide identifies when each song plays by sequence and story context rather than inventing timestamps.

Eric soundtrack: complete episode-by-episode song list

Episode 1

Song Artist When it plays
“I’m Not in Love” 10cc The series opens with Edgar leaving the Anderson apartment for school after Vincent decides that his nine-year-old son is old enough to walk alone. As Edgar moves down the street, a suspicious figure watches him from a truck. The song returns in Episode 6, making it one of the series’ clearest musical bookends.
“Supernature” Cerrone Heard at The Lux nightclub when Detective Michael Ledroit arrives while investigating Edgar’s disappearance.
“Vitamin C” Can Plays as Vincent searches Edgar’s bedroom, studies his drawings of Eric, and sketches the puppet himself. The sequence is intercut with Ledroit listening to a recording from The Lux and Cassie meeting her lover.
“Crucify Your Mind” Rodriguez Vincent drinks alone in Edgar’s room and reflects on his family. The song is interrupted when Vincent wakes to the giant furry puppet, then resumes over the episode’s closing image of Edgar’s jacket in the street.

Episode 2

Song Artist When it plays
“These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)” Billie Holiday Playing on the stereo in Ledroit’s apartment as he looks for his boyfriend, William. The song later becomes part of William’s musical identity in Episode 5 through a distorted version.
“I’m So Hot for You” Bobby O Heard at The Lux while patrons dance and Ledroit searches the club for Gator.
“A Forest” The Cure Scores the episode-ending montage: Vincent starts making the Eric puppet, Ledroit reviews CCTV from the day Edgar vanished, Cassie searches through memorabilia and contacts Ledroit, and a man resembling one of Edgar’s drawings walks through a dim hallway.

“A Forest” is a song from The Cure’s 1980 album Seventeen Seconds, not part of Keefus Ciancia’s original score for the series. Readers looking for the source record can explore The Cure Seventeen Seconds vinyl; availability and format vary by retailer and territory.

Episode 3

Song Artist When it plays
“Love and Affection” Joan Armatrading Cassie dances alone around the apartment after Vincent is jailed. Director Lucy Forbes said the selection was connected to music shared with Gaby Hoffmann during preparation for the character.
“Ask Me” Carol Jiani Heard in the background at The Lux while Vincent and the Good Day Sunshine team celebrate successfully pitching the Eric character to the network.
“Gloria” Laura Branigan Plays at The Lux as Vincent, drunk and high, dances in a daze. The music supervisors described the choice as an intentionally recognizable, “hyperreal” contrast to the less familiar club selections elsewhere in the series.

Episode 4

Song Artist or version When it plays
“Meet Me in the Morning” Bob Dylan Opens the episode over the aftermath of Vincent’s wild night, while Cassie sits in a diner looking at Cecile’s phone number.
“The Killing Moon” / “Killing Moon” Roman Remains cover of the Echo & the Bunnymen song Plays as Edgar explores Yuusuf’s dwelling and begins drawing on the wall.
“Tupelo” Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Heard as Raya descends back into the sewers after speaking with Gator’s associate about the possibility of selling Edgar.

Version note: Some published lists label the Episode 4 placement simply “The Killing Moon,” referring to Echo & the Bunnymen’s familiar song. The version identified in the more detailed episode guide is the Roman Remains cover, so it should not be described as the original Echo & the Bunnymen master recording.

Episode 5

Song Artist When it plays
“Heroin” The Velvet Underground Cassie waits in a phone booth for what she believes will be Edgar’s safe delivery, while Vincent searches the subway tracks along a route he thinks Edgar left for him.
“900 Miles” Terry Callier Scores the police raid on the sewer encampment. Vincent is knocked down in the upheaval as Edgar and Raya try to escape toward the surface.
“Who Knows Where the Time Goes” Fairport Convention, associated with Sandy Denny Plays near the episode’s conclusion as Cassie remains in the phone booth, Ledroit kisses Gator in the back room at The Lux, and Vincent passes out in the sewers.

Episode 6

Song Artist When it plays
“These Days” Nico Scores the concluding montage: Edgar is home and drawing, Cecile speaks publicly about her missing son Marlon, and Ledroit packs up his apartment while mourning William. The song is both hopeful and tragic, reflecting Edgar’s return alongside Marlon’s unresolved disappearance.
“I’m Not in Love” 10cc Returns as Vincent and Edgar, wearing the Eric costume, sit on the Good Day Sunshine set. Reusing the opening song gives the limited series a circular musical structure, although its emotional meaning has changed after Edgar’s disappearance and return.

What is the “Good Day Sunshine” theme song?

“Good Day Sunshine” is the theme for the fictional children’s program created within Eric. It is not the Beatles song of the same name.

Keefus Ciancia’s original Eric score

The licensed songs above are only one part of the show’s music. Keefus Ciancia composed the original score, which supplies much of the series’ tense, shadowy atmosphere. It should not be merged with the episode-by-episode licensed-song list: the score album consists of original cues rather than additional period pop songs.

Why the soundtrack feels both period-specific and unpredictable

Eric is set in New York in 1985, but it is not a compilation of songs released during the 1980s. The selection reaches back into the 1960s and 1970s while using 1985 as its musical and cultural frame.

Keep the music going without frequent recharging

Music supervisors Danny Layton and Ross Sellwood said they considered contemporary New York radio playlists, Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage set lists, and the records the characters might plausibly own at home. That explains the contrast between the dance-floor music at The Lux and the more intimate selections heard in the Anderson and Ledroit households.

  • The Lux: Its selections often avoid an obvious nostalgia-playlist approach. The club feels like a specific New York space rather than a generic 1980s nightclub.
  • Recognizable disruption: Laura Branigan’s “Gloria” is a deliberate exception, using a familiar hit to heighten the unreal quality of Vincent’s intoxicated dance.
  • Character associations: Billie Holiday’s “These Foolish Things” develops into a motif connected with William, while The Velvet Underground’s music reflects Vincent’s darker and more self-destructive side.
  • Emotional contrast: Nico’s “These Days” sounds more open and bittersweet in the finale, holding Edgar’s homecoming and Marlon’s continuing absence in the same musical moment.
  • Structural repetition: 10cc’s “I’m Not in Love” links the first and final episodes, turning a repeated song into a marker of how far the family has traveled.

Bottom line

The Eric soundtrack combines carefully chosen older recordings with 1985 New York club culture, character motifs, the Tim Minchin-written “Good Day Sunshine” theme, and Keefus Ciancia’s separate original score. The most important details are the return of “I’m Not in Love,” the William-associated use of “These Foolish Things,” the Roman Remains version of “Killing Moon,” and the finale’s deliberately bittersweet use of Nico’s “These Days.”
