Discovery+ Canada’s former standalone service closed on February 17, 2026. Former direct subscribers were not migrated to the replacement: they must create a new account and resubscribe through the new Rogers-operated discovery+ website or app. Payment information, profiles, watch history, preferences, and settings do not carry over.
Yes—but only for the former standalone Canadian service. Warner Bros. Discovery’s original discovery+ service in Canada closed on February 17, 2026. The replacement is a new Rogers-operated discovery+ service with a new website and app. Former standalone subscribers were not transferred automatically: they must create an account again and subscribe again.
That rebuild is more than a new login. Payment details, profiles, watch history, watch preferences, and saved settings do not carry over. You may use the same email address, but the new service treats you as creating a new account.
What happened to discovery+ in Canada?
Warner Bros. Discovery discontinued its standalone Canadian discovery+ service on February 17, 2026. Rogers Sports & Media now provides the replacement Canadian service, following its broader arrangement to handle Canadian English-language rights, distribution, and advertising representation for Warner Bros. Discovery’s lifestyle and factual brands.

The new service became available on January 14, 2026, creating a short overlap before the former platform shut down. That overlap did not amount to a technical account migration. It gave viewers time to move to the new Rogers-operated service, but the move required a fresh subscription and fresh account setup.
Who has to rebuild an account?
The forced rebuild applies primarily to people who subscribed directly to the former standalone Canadian discovery+ service. Those customers should use the new Canadian discovery+ website or app and expect to subscribe again.
| How you subscribed | What to do |
|---|---|
| Directly through the former standalone Canadian discovery+ service | Create a new account on the Rogers-operated service and subscribe again. |
| Prime Video Channels | The official support information says this subscription route was not impacted by the shutdown in the same way. Do not cancel and recreate it without first checking Amazon’s current channel listing and billing details. |
| TELUS or Koodo | Use the Rogers-operated website or app, but continue to be billed through the provider through which you subscribed. |
If you are unsure which route you used, check the billing descriptor on your bank or credit-card statement, your Prime Video subscriptions, or your TELUS or Koodo account before signing up again. This can help you avoid paying twice.
What does not transfer to the new service?
The official migration FAQ makes clear that the new platform does not import the former service’s account data. You can reuse your old email address as an identifier, but that does not restore the old account.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Payment information: must be entered again when you subscribe directly.
- Profiles: must be recreated.
- Watch history: does not transfer.
- Watch preferences: must be established again.
- Settings: should be reviewed and rebuilt after signing in.
In practical terms, save a list of the shows you were watching before you leave the old service. Once the old platform is unavailable, you should not expect its viewing history or personalized recommendations to reappear automatically on the new one.

How to move to the new discovery+ Canada service
- Identify your billing route. Confirm whether you paid discovery+ directly, through Prime Video Channels, or through TELUS or Koodo.
- Use the Canadian service. Open the new discovery+ Canada website or install the new Canadian app. Availability is restricted to users in Canada who register and obtain paid access directly or through an authorized distributor.
- Create the account again. You can use your previous email address if you want to keep the same login identity. Do not assume that using the same email will restore your old data.
- Subscribe through the correct route. Direct subscribers need to resubscribe. Provider-billed customers should follow the instructions for their provider rather than creating an additional direct subscription.
- Re-enter payment details where required. Stored payment information from the former standalone service is not transferred.
- Recreate profiles and preferences. Add household profiles, review settings, and rebuild your watchlist or other viewing choices.
- Check the device before troubleshooting the app. The new platform has its own compatibility list, and several familiar devices are not supported.
Device compatibility: check the exact model
The new service is not compatible with every television or streaming device that previously played discovery+. The official compatibility information lists support for several newer platforms, including:
- Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K
- Apple TV 4K
- Samsung televisions from 2018 onward
- Android TV
- Recent iPhone and Android phone models
- Recent tablets
- Desktop and mobile web browsers
The same documentation identifies these devices or platforms as unsupported:
- Roku TV
- LG Smart TVs running webOS
- Fire TV Stick 4K Select running Vega OS
- Amazon Fire tablets
- Google Chromecast
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X|S
Do not treat “Fire TV Stick” as one universal category. The standard Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is listed as supported, while the similarly named Fire TV Stick 4K Select running Vega OS is listed as unsupported. Check the exact model name before buying anything.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat to use if your current device is unsupported
If your television is an LG webOS model, your streamer is a Roku, or you rely on Chromecast or an Xbox console, you may need to use a supported television, a computer or mobile device, or add a compatible streaming player.
One possible replacement is the supported Fire TV Stick 4K. The official discovery+ Canada device chart lists that model as compatible, but it does not mean every Fire TV product works. In particular, do not substitute the Fire TV Stick 4K Select without checking the model and operating system.

- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Apple TV 4K is another supported option for viewers who prefer Apple’s platform. It is an alternative, not a requirement. Before purchasing either device, verify the current model, operating system, Canadian availability, and the retailer’s return policy.
You may not need new hardware at all: desktop or mobile web access and a recent phone or tablet may be enough for temporary viewing while you decide how to handle an unsupported television.
What happened to billing and refunds?
The shutdown did not mean every subscriber was charged or cancelled on exactly February 17. According to the former service’s official notice, subscriptions ended on the next billing date after January 14, 2026, or when the service ended on February 17, whichever came first.
Annual subscribers whose renewal date fell on or after February 17 were expected to receive a refund for the unused remaining time through the original payment method. That documented refund treatment should not be generalized into a promise that every former subscriber received a refund or that every billing route was handled identically.
If you believe a refund is missing, first identify whether you paid Warner Bros. Discovery directly or through a distributor. Then check the original payment method and contact the company that billed you. Provider-billed subscriptions and third-party channel subscriptions can have different support and refund procedures.

Common problems after the change
The old email address is rejected
Make sure you are using the new Canadian website or app rather than the discontinued service. The old email address may be usable on the replacement platform, but it does not mean the old account remains active.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The app will not install on the television
Check the exact television model and operating system. LG webOS televisions and Roku TV are listed as unsupported, while Samsung support is limited to models from 2018 onward. A television’s age and operating system matter more than its brand name alone.
Chromecast no longer works
Chromecast is specifically listed as unsupported for the new service. Try the supported web experience on a computer, use a compatible phone or tablet, or connect a supported streaming device instead.
The new app works on one device but not another
That can be a compatibility issue rather than an account problem. Compare the model and operating system of the failing device with the official Canadian compatibility chart. In particular, distinguish the supported Fire TV Stick 4K from the unsupported Fire TV Stick 4K Select.
I see a new subscription charge
Former direct subscribers had to subscribe again, so a new charge may be the first payment for the replacement service. Check the account and billing route before assuming it is an error. If you also retained a Prime Video, TELUS, or Koodo subscription, verify that you have not created a second subscription accidentally.

What this means for documentary viewers
For viewers who used discovery+ as a home for factual, lifestyle, and documentary programming, the important change is not only the operator behind the service. The viewing environment itself has been reset: a new app, a new account record, new billing arrangements for direct subscribers, and a narrower or different device-compatibility picture.
The safest approach is to treat the change as a new service launch rather than a routine app update. Confirm your subscription route, check your hardware, recreate your account deliberately, and keep track of the shows you want to find again instead of relying on the old watch history.
Quick checklist
- Confirm whether you subscribed directly, through Prime Video Channels, TELUS, or Koodo.
- Use the new Rogers-operated discovery+ website or app if you were a former direct subscriber.
- Expect to subscribe again if you used the former standalone service.
- Reuse your old email address only as a login choice—not as evidence that your data transferred.
- Re-enter payment details and recreate profiles.
- Rebuild watch history, watch preferences, and settings manually.
- Check the exact device model before buying or replacing hardware.
- Remember that Chromecast, Roku TV, LG webOS televisions, Xbox consoles, Amazon Fire tablets, and Fire TV Stick 4K Select are listed as unsupported.
- If buying hardware, distinguish the supported Fire TV Stick 4K from the unsupported Fire TV Stick 4K Select.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was my old discovery+ Canada account migrated?
No. The new Rogers-operated Canadian service is separate. Former standalone subscribers must create a new account and subscribe again. Payment information, profiles, watch history, preferences, and settings do not transfer, although the same email address may be used.
Do Prime Video Channels subscribers have to rebuild their subscriptions?
The official support information says Prime Video Channels subscriptions were not impacted in the same way as direct standalone subscriptions. Check your Amazon channel subscription before signing up again.
When did discovery+ Canada subscriptions end, and were refunds issued?
The former service ended on February 17, 2026, but direct subscriptions ended on the next billing date after January 14, 2026 or when the service closed, whichever came first. Annual subscribers with a renewal date on or after February 17 were to receive a refund for unused time through the original payment method.
Does every Amazon Fire TV Stick support the new discovery+ Canada service?
The standard Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is listed as supported. The similarly named Fire TV Stick 4K Select running Vega OS is listed as unsupported, so check the exact model before buying.
Which devices do not support the new discovery+ Canada service?
The official unsupported-device list includes Google Chromecast, Roku TV, LG Smart TVs using webOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Fire tablets, and Fire TV Stick 4K Select running Vega OS.
The Bottom Line
The Canadian discovery+ shutdown was a platform replacement, not an account migration. Former standalone subscribers must create a new account and resubscribe, while payment information, profiles, watch history, and settings start over. Check your billing provider and exact device model first—especially because the standard Fire TV Stick 4K is supported but Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Chromecast, Roku TV, LG webOS televisions, and Xbox consoles are not.
