Sinners was the headline arrival on HBO Max in July 2025. Ryan Coogler’s film began streaming exclusively on Friday, July 4, followed by its linear HBO premiere on Saturday, July 5, at 8:00 p.m. The rest of the U.S. lineup combined three A24 films, several documentary and nonfiction choices, a Mortal Kombat catalog refresh, and new reality, lifestyle, family, and animation programming.
Sinners was the main event in HBO Max’s U.S. July 2025 lineup. Ryan Coogler’s supernatural drama, starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, began streaming exclusively on Friday, July 4, 2025. It received its linear HBO premiere the following evening, Saturday, July 5, at 8:00 p.m.
This is a historical release guide to the July 2025 schedule—not a guarantee that every title listed below is still available. Max says that its movie and television availability can change and that some titles are offered only for limited periods. The dates and catalog notes below refer to the U.S. lineup announced for that month.
Sinners led HBO Max’s July 2025 additions
Written and directed by Ryan Coogler and distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, Sinners follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack as they return to their Mississippi hometown hoping to begin again, only to face a supernatural threat. Michael B. Jordan plays both brothers.

The film’s U.S. theatrical release was April 18, 2025, before its exclusive Max streaming debut on July 4. For viewers who prefer a scheduled television premiere, HBO aired the movie on July 5 at 8:00 p.m. The streaming and linear dates were separate events, so the HBO broadcast should not be confused with a new Max release.
Because Sinners was the month’s most prominent film arrival, it is the natural starting point for anyone deciding what to watch first. Viewers interested in keeping a copy should verify the current edition, seller, price, stock status, and digital-copy terms before purchasing a Sinners Blu-ray. A Blu-ray purchase is separate from a Max subscription and does not itself provide access to the streaming service.

The documentaries and nonfiction titles to prioritize
Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print — July 2
This HBO Original documentary was one of the month’s clearest nonfiction premieres. Its subject is the history and impact of Ms. magazine, making it a particularly relevant pick for viewers interested in journalism, publishing, feminism, and the way print media can shape public debate.

Billy Joel: And So It Goes, Parts 1 and 2 — July 18 and July 25
The Billy Joel documentary arrived as a two-part presentation rather than a single drop: Part 1 was scheduled for July 18, followed by Part 2 on July 25. Viewers who prefer to watch a documentary in one sitting should note the split release dates.
Shark Week 2025 — July 20
Shark Week 2025 brought the annual nonfiction programming event to the July schedule on July 20. It was a strong fit for viewers looking for natural-history and wildlife programming rather than a feature film or serialized drama.
On Becoming a Guinea Fowl — July 4
Arriving on the same date as Sinners, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl gave the month another significant film option for viewers looking beyond the headline release. It belongs near the top of the July watchlist alongside the other A24 titles.
A24’s July 2025 film additions
Three A24 titles stood out in the announced schedule:
Rank #3
- Pulp Fiction - Movie Poster (Regular Style - Uma Thurman On Bed) - Unframed
- Regular Style - Uma Thurman On Bed
- LARGE 24" x 36" WALL SIZE UNFRAMED POSTER: Eye-catching design fills your wall with inspiration and color. Perfect for creating a bold visual centerpiece on any wall
- VIBRANT, HIGH-RESOLUTION PRINT: Printed on high-quality paper with bold colors and sharp detail that pop in any lighting - creating a professional, premium look.
- READY TO HANG OR FRAME: Fits standard 24" x 36" frames, making display quick and easy.
- On Becoming a Guinea Fowl — July 4.
- Opus — July 11.
- Death of a Unicorn — July 25.
For film-focused subscribers, these releases formed the strongest secondary reason to check the service during the month. A practical viewing order would be Sinners first, followed by the three A24 additions, with Billy Joel: And So It Goes and Dear Ms.: A Revolution in Print as the major nonfiction choices.
The July 1 catalog refresh: franchise and library movies
The largest volume of additions came at the beginning of the month. July 1 added the Mortal Kombat films and animated titles, along with recognizable library movies including The Big Lebowski, Get Out, Insidious, The Meg, Showgirls, Shaun the Sheep Movie, and Napoleon Dynamite.
This catalog drop served several different audiences: Mortal Kombat for franchise viewers, Get Out and Insidious for horror fans, The Big Lebowski and Napoleon Dynamite for comedy viewers, and Shaun the Sheep Movie for families. Unlike the dated premieres, library titles can have different removal schedules, so their July 1 arrival should not be treated as a promise of permanent access.
Reality, lifestyle, family, and animation programming
The remaining additions made July a broad programming month rather than a film-only event:

U.S. availability and date caveat
These dates describe the U.S. HBO Max schedule announced for July 2025. Streaming catalogs vary by country, and Max’s own help documentation notes that titles can change or be available only for limited periods. If you are reading this after July 2025, search the service directly for a title rather than assuming that its original arrival means it remains in the catalog.
The same distinction applies to home viewing. A streaming debut, a linear HBO broadcast, a digital purchase, and a Blu-ray or 4K purchase are separate forms of access. Availability, edition details, included digital copies, retailer, and price should all be checked at the time of purchase.
