Most of the standout additions are listed for August 1, with Piece by Piece arriving August 7.
This is a guide to the U.S. Prime Video catalog for August 2026. “New” means newly added or newly listed for Prime Video—not necessarily a new theatrical release. Prime Video rights can change by country, account, subscription tier and date, so check the title page before assuming a film is included with your membership rather than available to rent or buy.
Availability note: The dates below are scheduled or listed arrival dates from the August U.S. calendar. The August 1 titles should be the first films to check, while later arrivals should not be treated as available before their listed dates. Rotten Tomatoes figures are research snapshots from August 12, 2026 and may change.
If your television does not have a built-in Prime Video app, an optional Fire TV Stick 4K is one way to stream Prime Video on your TV. It is not required, and device availability and specifications should be checked before purchasing.

The 10 best new movies on Prime Video in August 2026
1. Fargo (1996)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Dark comedy, crime, mystery and regional Americana
Fargo is the month’s clearest all-around recommendation. Joel and Ethan Coen turn a kidnapping scheme into a steadily worsening nightmare, but the film’s real center is Frances McDormand’s Marge Gunderson—a perceptive, humane police chief whose calm investigation contrasts with the criminals’ panic and incompetence.
The result is both a crime mystery and a sharply observed comedy about ordinary decency confronting extraordinary foolishness. Its violence can be abrupt, but the film is less interested in glamorizing crime than in showing how quickly greed and bad decisions become catastrophic. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 95% Tomatometer score in the research snapshot.
Choose this if: You want one film that combines suspense, eccentric humor, memorable characters and lasting rewatch value.

2. Pulp Fiction (1994)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Crime, nonlinear storytelling, dialogue and rewatchability
Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction remains a defining modern crime film, although it is deliberately unlike a conventional thriller. Its interlocking stories move through philosophical hitmen, a boxer, a mob boss’s wife and a series of sudden reversals. The chronology is fractured, but the individual episodes are linked by recurring characters, objects and consequences.
The film is especially useful for a catalog list because it offers something to discuss after the credits: its structure, tonal shifts, pop-culture language and treatment of violence have all helped keep it in the cultural conversation. Viewers sensitive to graphic violence, drug use and strong language should know that these are central to the film. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 92% Tomatometer score in the research snapshot.
Choose this if: You want a landmark crime movie whose pleasures include both its storytelling mechanics and its highly quotable exchanges.

3. Interstellar (2014)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Science fiction, spectacle and emotional family drama
Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is the month’s major event-film pick. Its premise sends astronauts beyond Earth in search of a future for humanity, but the emotional engine is more intimate: the relationship between a father and daughter separated by distance, time and impossible choices.
The film’s scale—space travel, alien worlds and existential danger—makes it a natural choice for a large-screen viewing. It is also worth approaching with reasonable expectations about its reception. The research snapshot gives it a 73% critics’ score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, reflecting a film that inspires strong enthusiasm from many viewers while remaining more divisive among critics than the other major classics on this list.
Choose this if: You want ambitious science fiction with spectacle and sentiment, and you are comfortable with a long, emotionally intense journey rather than a tightly minimal space thriller.

4. Blue Velvet (1986)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Surreal mystery, psychological tension and David Lynch essentials
David Lynch’s Blue Velvet begins with a seemingly simple discovery: a young man finds a severed ear in a field. The investigation that follows leads beneath the surface of an apparently idyllic small town and into a world of obsession, violence, hidden corruption and psychological danger.
Its power comes from the collision between familiar Americana and nightmare logic. Lynch does not offer a comfortable mystery in which every clue produces a neat answer; instead, the film makes curiosity itself feel risky. This is a disturbing choice, with sexual violence, abuse, menace and other mature material, so it is better suited to attentive viewing than casual background play. Rotten Tomatoes lists a 91% Tomatometer score.
Choose this if: You want the most unsettling and formally distinctive mystery among August’s major additions.
5. Challengers (2024)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Sports drama, romantic rivalry and stylish contemporary filmmaking
Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers uses tennis as both a sport and a language for desire, ambition and control. Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist play the three points of a relationship shaped by competition, attraction and shifting loyalties.
The film’s energy comes from the way matches and personal history feed into one another. Rather than treating the sport as a separate subplot, it turns movement, strategy and pressure into part of the relationship drama. It is a sleek, sexually charged three-hander with strong performances and an intentionally propulsive style. Rotten Tomatoes lists an 88% Tomatometer score.
Choose this if: You want a recent, visually assured drama that is as interested in chemistry and power as it is in winning a match.
6. Licorice Pizza (2021)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Coming-of-age comedy-drama, 1970s Los Angeles and conversational filmmaking
Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza is a looser, more character-driven alternative to the tightly engineered plots elsewhere in this roundup. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, it follows an unusual connection between young people navigating ambition, attraction, work and the uncertainty of growing up.
Its appeal is less about reaching a single dramatic destination than spending time with eccentric personalities and observing how conversations, flirtation and impulsive schemes shape their lives. The period setting gives the film texture, while its episodic structure makes it a good choice for viewers who prefer atmosphere and character chemistry to high-concept plotting.
Choose this if: You want a warm, offbeat film with a relaxed rhythm and a strong sense of place.

7. Women Talking (2022)
Arrives: August 1
Best for: Serious drama, ensemble performances and ethical debate
Women Talking is August’s most overtly discussion-oriented selection. It centers on a group of women forced to deliberate about their future after learning the extent of violence and abuse within their isolated religious community.
The film is built around conversation, competing moral positions and the practical question of how a community can respond when safety, faith, family and justice pull in different directions. Its subject matter is grave: viewers should expect discussion of sexual violence, abuse, trauma and coercive control. This is not casual background viewing, but it is a strong choice for viewers seeking a thoughtful ensemble drama that leaves room for debate after the film ends.
Choose this if: You want a serious, performance-led drama focused on collective decision-making rather than conventional action.

Arrives: August 1
Best for: Sports comedy-drama, wrestling fans and older teens and adults
Fighting with My Family follows a young wrestler from a working-class British wrestling family as she pursues an opportunity with WWE. The professional ambition supplies the sports-movie framework, while the family relationships provide the emotional core.
That balance makes it one of the easiest recommendations for a group that wants something accessible without settling for a purely disposable comedy. The story deals with rivalry, insecurity, parental expectations and the challenge of defining success on one’s own terms. It is a crowd-pleasing option, though the older-teen-and-adult label is more appropriate than “for all ages.” Rotten Tomatoes lists a 93% Tomatometer score.
Choose this if: You want an upbeat underdog story with wrestling spectacle and a substantial family arc.

Arrives: August 1
Best for: Raunchy comedy, friendship and an Asian American road movie
Joy Ride is the most direct comedy pick in the August ten. Its road-trip structure brings a group of friends into a series of escalating situations while the film explores identity, family history and the complications of long-standing friendship.
The tone is deliberately outrageous, and the movie is R-rated for raunchy humor, strong language, sexual content and other mature material. That makes it a better choice for an adults-only movie night than an undifferentiated group recommendation. Its ensemble energy and friendship focus provide a lighter counterweight to the month’s crime films and serious dramas.
Choose this if: You want a loud, adult road comedy rather than a restrained relationship drama.

10. Piece by Piece (2024)
Arrives: August 7
Best for: Music documentaries, animation, Pharrell Williams fans and unusual formats
Piece by Piece is the most format-distinctive recommendation here. It presents the life and career of Pharrell Williams through animation, giving the music documentary a visual language that separates it from a conventional archive-and-interview biography.
That makes it particularly relevant for documentary viewers and for anyone who has already watched the major August 1 additions. The animated approach is not just a decorative choice; it shapes how the film reconstructs memory, performance and creative identity. It is also an easy way to add a music-focused title to a month otherwise dominated by fiction films.
Choose this if: You want a documentary with a strong musical subject and a visual presentation unlike a standard biographical film.

The following films are also listed on Prime Video’s U.S. August calendar. They are not part of the main ten because the selections above offer a stronger balance of reputation, genre variety and immediate usefulness, but they may be worth checking if one matches your interests:
- Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes — August 2: A choice for viewers looking for large-scale science-fiction adventure after Interstellar.
- The Gates — August 7: Another August 7 option to investigate alongside Piece by Piece.
- Journey to Bethlehem — August 8: A musical faith-based film for viewers seeking a family or holiday-oriented alternative.
- Blue Beetle — August 17: A superhero option arriving later in the month.
- Is God Is — August 19: A dramatic title for viewers looking beyond mainstream studio releases.
- Back to the 90s and Good Fortune — August 21: Two more mid-month choices to check as their dates arrive.
- The Last Sunrise — August 26: An Amazon MGM/Prime Video release based on a novel. It follows a college student spending a summer in Mallorca while dealing with chronic illness, romance and family secrets. It should be treated as a scheduled upcoming arrival—not as streamable before August 26.
- Nickel Boys — August 27: An important late-month update candidate for viewers looking for a serious literary drama.

What “new on Prime Video” means here
This list is not a ranking of movies released in 2026. Prime Video’s August refresh mixes older catalog films, recent releases and scheduled later-month additions. A 1990s classic such as Fargo or Pulp Fiction can therefore be “new” to the service even though it has been available elsewhere for years.
Also, a title appearing in a Prime Video search result or monthly calendar does not always mean it is included at no additional cost. Licensing can differ by territory and may change during the month; some titles may be offered through a rental, purchase or separate channel rather than the standard Prime membership. Confirm the price and “included with Prime” status on the title page for your U.S. account before starting a film.

Are these movies included with Amazon Prime?
Not necessarily. The list identifies films scheduled or listed for the U.S. Prime Video catalog, but availability and pricing can vary by title, date, territory, account and subscription tier. Check each Prime Video title page for the current “included with Prime” status; some films may instead require a rental, purchase or additional channel subscription.
Which film on the list is a documentary?
Piece by Piece is the documentary recommendation. It tells Pharrell Williams’s story through animation, making it a particularly distinctive choice for documentary viewers and for anyone seeking a music-focused film rather than a conventional live-action drama.
Which August additions are best for a movie discussion?
Women Talking is the most explicitly discussion-driven choice, with its focus on ethics, community and collective decision-making. Pulp Fiction, Blue Velvet and Challengers also offer substantial topics for discussion, including narrative structure, hidden violence, desire, competition and power.
The Bottom Line
Start with Fargo if you want the safest all-around recommendation. Pick Pulp Fiction or Blue Velvet for landmark and unsettling crime cinema, Interstellar for scale, Challengers for contemporary style, or Piece by Piece for the month’s most distinctive documentary experience. Check the U.S. Prime Video listing on the day you watch: August additions are catalog windows, not permanent availability guarantees.
