The 51st ceremony took place in Las Vegas on Monday, May 26, 2025. If you want to watch it now, use the official CBS video page, which lists the complete program as “NOW STREAMING.”
There is no verified, unrestricted free internet livestream of the finished event. The genuinely free option applied to the original broadcast: viewers in range of a local CBS affiliate could watch over the air with an antenna. The official online live stream was available in the United States through the Paramount+ with Showtime tier, not Paramount+ Essential.
Where to watch the 2025 AMAs now
Start with the CBS page for the 2025 American Music Awards. It identifies the program by its May 26, 2025 air date and currently presents the full show as streaming.
Availability can still depend on your location, account status, device, and the broadcaster’s current catalog. If the CBS page does not play the program in your region, check the official American Music Awards page on Paramount+. That page covers the franchise and its programming, but it should not be treated as a guarantee that the 2025 replay is available to every subscriber everywhere.

Was there a free way to watch it live?
In the United States, the answer depends on what “free” means.
| Method | Was it free? | What it actually provided |
|---|---|---|
| Local CBS station with an antenna | Yes, after buying or already owning compatible equipment | Free over-the-air broadcast television, subject to local reception |
| Paramount+ with Showtime | No, it required the applicable subscription tier | Official internet livestream of the ceremony in the U.S. |
| Paramount+ Essential | No live access to the ceremony | The 2025 program became available on demand beginning May 27, 2025, according to CBS News |
| CBS.com live stream | Not automatically free | CBS says its live stream requires a connected TV-provider login |
| Live-TV streaming bundle | Usually no | Services such as DIRECTV STREAM, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, and YouTube TV could provide CBS where their local-channel lineups supported it |
The genuinely free option: an over-the-air CBS broadcast
The original CBS broadcast could be received without a monthly television subscription if you lived within range of a participating local CBS affiliate and had a compatible television and antenna. This was free broadcast TV—not a free internet livestream.
The Federal Trade Commission’s antenna guidance explains that modern televisions generally include digital tuners and that an inexpensive indoor antenna can receive local broadcast channels, including local HDTV signals. Your results depend on your distance from the transmitter, local CBS availability, terrain, walls and windows, building materials, and antenna placement.
If you are preparing for a future CBS-televised awards show, an indoor HDTV antenna is the most direct equipment purchase for this use case. Check local reception before assuming any particular model will work. An antenna receives local broadcasts; it does not provide Paramount+, unlock archived streams, or replace a paid live-TV service.
How to check an antenna setup
- Confirm that your television has a digital tuner. Most modern TVs do, but an older set may need a separate tuner or converter.
- Connect the antenna to the TV’s antenna or RF input.
- Open the television’s channel settings and run an automatic channel scan. The exact labels vary by manufacturer; look for “Channels,” “Broadcast,” “Antenna,” or “Auto Program.”
- Place the antenna near a window or higher position when possible, then rescan if CBS is missing or unstable.
- Verify that the channel is your local CBS affiliate rather than assuming every CBS station has identical reception coverage.
A longer coaxial cable or signal amplifier can sometimes help with a difficult installation, but neither is required for every home. An amplifier cannot fix a missing local signal, severe obstruction, or an antenna pointed away from the transmitter.

The official online livestream used for the 2025 ceremony
For the original live event, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced that the AMAs would air live on the CBS Television Network and stream live in the United States on Paramount+. The official CBS announcement confirms those distribution outlets.
The important qualification is the plan. CBS News reported that the live ceremony was available through Paramount+ with Showtime. Paramount+ Essential subscribers could not watch the ceremony live, although the show became available on demand on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Plan names and catalog rules can change, so do not rely on an old price, trial, or tier description without checking Paramount+ directly.

Not as an unrestricted live internet stream. CBS’s live-TV page states that viewers must connect a TV provider to watch its live stream. That is different from the archived 2025 program page, which currently identifies the complete AMAs episode as streaming.
In practical terms:
- Use the CBS program page first for the replay.
- Expect CBS’s live channel stream to require an eligible TV-provider login.
- Do not assume that visiting CBS.com creates free access to every CBS event.
What about Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, YouTube TV, or DIRECTV STREAM?
When the ceremony aired, live-TV streaming services including DIRECTV STREAM, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, and YouTube TV were listed as ways to receive CBS, provided the service carried the viewer’s local CBS affiliate. These are subscription products, not permanent free-streaming solutions.
Promotional trials, prices, channel lineups, eligibility, cancellation requirements, and local-station coverage change frequently. A trial might also require a payment method and automatically renew if it is not canceled before the stated deadline. If you are evaluating a service for a future CBS broadcast, enter your ZIP code on the provider’s own site, confirm that your local CBS station is included, and read the current trial and cancellation terms before signing up.

A TV streaming stick can be useful if your television lacks current CBS or Paramount+ app support. It does not make subscription programming free, guarantee that an event is available, or substitute for a TV-provider login when CBS requires one.
How to troubleshoot the official replay
The CBS page will not play
- Check whether the page displays a sign-in request, geographic restriction, or availability message.
- Try the current CBS app or a supported browser and update the television or streaming device if necessary.
- Confirm that other video services play normally. If they do not, restart the modem, router, and playback device.
- Disable browser extensions that interfere with video playback, then reload the page.
- Do not install an unknown “codec,” browser extension, or player offered by a pop-up claiming to unlock the show.
The video continually buffers
- Pause other downloads and high-bandwidth streams on the same connection.
- Move a Wi-Fi device closer to the router or use Ethernet where practical.
- Restart the app and streaming device.
- Reduce video quality temporarily if the player offers that control.
- Remember that a computer-cleanup tool cannot improve CBS’s broadcast rights, Paramount+ eligibility, local antenna reception, or internet bandwidth.
The antenna does not find CBS
- Run another channel scan after moving the antenna.
- Check whether your area is served by a local CBS affiliate.
- Test a window or higher placement and keep the antenna away from large metal objects where possible.
- Do not assume a signal amplifier will solve distance or terrain problems.
Avoid unofficial “free livestream” pages
The official distribution announcement named CBS and Paramount+ as the U.S. outlets. Unofficial YouTube restreams, pirate IPTV services, unauthorized mirror sites, and pages promising a “free AMAs stream” without broadcast-rights evidence may be removed, unsafe, misleading, or illegal. They can also expose viewers to deceptive downloads, aggressive advertising, credential theft, and malware.
For the 2025 event, the lawful choices are straightforward: use the official CBS replay if it is available to you, check Paramount+ for legitimate catalog availability, or watch future CBS broadcasts over the air with an antenna or through a licensed live-TV provider.

Distribution can change from one ceremony to the next. Before a future AMAs event, verify four things from the current official announcement:
- The broadcast network: Confirm whether CBS or another network has the U.S. rights.
- The streaming service: Check whether the event is live on Paramount+ and which plan qualifies.
- Your geography: Rights and availability may differ outside the United States.
- Your local station: If you want the free over-the-air route, confirm that your local affiliate carries the broadcast and that your antenna receives it.
The safest way to get a free broadcast without recurring fees is to prepare the antenna and local-channel setup before the event—not to search for an unauthorized internet restream after the show begins.

What was the free way to watch the AMAs in 2025?
A compatible antenna could receive the local CBS broadcast for free over the air, subject to local station coverage and reception. That was broadcast television, not a free internet livestream.
Did Paramount+ Essential include the live AMAs stream?
No. CBS News reported that the live ceremony was available through Paramount+ with Showtime, while Paramount+ Essential did not include live access. The program became available on demand beginning May 27, 2025.
Can I watch the AMAs on CBS.com without a TV subscription?
The CBS live-TV page says viewers must connect a TV provider to watch its live stream. The separate CBS video page is the more relevant destination for the archived 2025 program.

Bottom line: The 2025 American Music Awards cannot be watched live now because they aired on May 26, 2025. Try the official CBS replay first. For future CBS events, an antenna is the only genuinely free viewing route where local reception is available; online access normally requires an eligible Paramount+ plan, a TV-provider login, or a paid live-TV service.
