Can you watch the special on Disney Plus?
Yes, Disney+ has an official listing for The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter & Friendship — Special Ed. The Disney+ program page is the best place to verify current access, regional availability, and sign-in requirements.
Is the special available on fuboTV?
Current U.S. availability data lists the special on fuboTV, but the listing is supplied by a third-party catalog tracker rather than ABC, Hulu, or Disney+. What is the Golden Girls 40th anniversary documentary called?
The program is officially titled The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship — A Special Edition of 20/20. ABC also uses a shortened version of the title on its program page. The official ABC title page lists the special at 42:03 and rates it TV-PG.
ABC describes the program as a look behind the scenes at the sitcom’s continuing impact on television and culture. The official description says: Take a look behind the scenes at the beloved sitcom’s enduring impact on TV and culture, including interviews with Sheryl Lee Ralph, Kelly Ripa and former guest stars George Clooney and Mario Lopez.
The special examines the show’s development, including its early creation and pilot, and its transformation into a lasting television favorite. The program includes appearances or interviews involving Sheryl Lee Ralph, Kelly Ripa, George Clooney, and Mario Lopez.
Is this a reunion episode or a documentary?
The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship is a documentary-style television special, not a new scripted episode and not a conventional cast reunion. The program looks back at the making, influence, and cultural legacy of the original sitcom through commentary, archival context, and interviews.
The distinction matters because the original series ended years ago and the anniversary program does not present a new fictional story featuring Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia. Viewers looking for an additional episode should search for the original sitcom instead.
How does the anniversary special differ from the original sitcom?
The anniversary special is one approximately 42-minute documentary program. The original The Golden Girls is the seven-season scripted sitcom about four women sharing a home in Miami.

Where can you stream every season of The Golden Girls?
Current U.S. availability data lists the original series on Disney+, Hulu, and Philo. The same availability data lists purchase paths through Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home. Because these are catalog listings rather than permanent rights guarantees, check the current U.S. availability page for the original series and the service itself before subscribing or purchasing.
If you want the complete series offline, look for The Golden Girls complete series DVD. A complete-series DVD is for the underlying seven-season sitcom, not for the 40th-anniversary documentary. Physical media can be useful when you want to watch all seven seasons without depending on a streaming catalog or an internet connection.
Can you watch the original Golden Girls for free with an antenna?
An antenna may help U.S. viewers receive a local broadcast affiliate carrying The Golden Girls, but an antenna does not provide on-demand access to the 40th-anniversary special. Broadcast reception depends on the viewer’s location, local station carriage, signal conditions, and antenna placement.
MeTV announced that the original The Golden Girls would return to free broadcast television beginning March 16, 2026, with back-to-back weeknight episodes and additional Sunday blocks in most MeTV markets. The MeTV announcement provides the schedule information. The availability is for the original sitcom, not the documentary-style anniversary special.
An indoor TV antenna may be a practical category to consider if a local ABC or MeTV affiliate is available over the air. Confirm local channel coverage first; buying an antenna will not create a streaming library or guarantee reception in every market.

- Confirm the title. Search for The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship, not only The Golden Girls. The first title is the anniversary special; the second is the original sitcom.
- Confirm the country. The availability described here is U.S.-specific. Hulu, Disney+, ABC, MeTV, and other services may have different rights or names in other countries.
- Check the official service page. Verify the title, playback availability, plan requirements, device rules, and sign-in status immediately before watching.
- Treat third-party listings as provisional. fuboTV availability and expiration information can change faster than an editorial page can be updated.
- Match the service to your goal. Choose Hulu or Disney+ for the anniversary special, a listed sitcom service for episodes, a digital purchase or DVD for longer-term access, or local broadcast reception for scheduled free television.
Do not describe the original November 11, 2025 ABC broadcast as a current on-demand stream unless ABC’s own page confirms replay access at the time of viewing. Do not treat MeTV’s March 16, 2026 broadcast return as a way to stream the anniversary documentary whenever you want.
